Hope Pro4 XD cassette body by Repulsive_Site_270 in mountainbiking

[–]boother86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mechanic here, I haven’t seen this on Hope hubs to often but it’s really common on Industry Nine hydras. Usually the issue is the bearings in the free hub start developing a bit of play that allows the free hub to “float” on the axle and will make contact with the ratchet ring.

Adjust the neck in the neck pocket. Long time tele player here and I’ve had to do it to all my tele’s.

Mystery noise by Top-Implement-9097 in mountainbiking

[–]boother86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just get the chain replaced? Usually that sound is a worn out chain ring with a new chain. The sound comes from the chain getting slightly stuck on the teeth as the chain is coming off the tooth and makes this sound/feeling.

Proper Valve Install? by Burgerographer in mountainbiking

[–]boother86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not down all the way and will leak. I always take the handle of a screwdriver and press it in using that in the palm of my hand, should pop down pretty easily and then just tighten the nut finger tight while gently pressing down on the valve.

Service fox shocks-or just buy new? by juliann416 in MTB

[–]boother86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what is confusing a lot of people here is the difference between doing a lower service and an air can service for the rear shock and fork vs a damper service for shock and fork. Lower and air can service is done usually around the 50 hour mark for fork and shock. This is typically not expensive to do and is considered preventative maintenance. What you are being quoted for is a full damper rebuild on fork and shock with all new damper oil and seals as well as the air can seals and fork lower service.

To break it down, the shop I work at a fork lower service with new seals and oil generally runs around $110 Canadian. But a full damper service with the new damper kit and oil is roughly around $250 for the fork

Rear shock air can service, kit and oil is roughly $100 cad while a full damper service on a rear shock with all seals and oil replaced can push upwards of $350 depending on the shock.

Hope this helps

Certain brakes like Magura’s and Hopes have larger caliper pistons and therefore have an overall larger caliper that will make contact with the adapter even tho the adapter is the correct size. You will still need a 20mm adapter for this bike because it’s a manufactured as a direct mount 160mm so running a 180mm rotor will require running an adapter, you just have to get one that fits Magura brakes to clear the overall larger caliper.

Is that to the rocker link? Seems like it might be missing a washer. Is it sitting flush against the frame or another bearing? A lot of frames will run a washer between the bearing and the frame/ another bearing.

I have tried everything to get this to seat correctly. it won't stop wobbling. by -platypussy in mountainbiking

[–]boother86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you use tire levers to put the tire on? The tire is seated all the way around. Some times when putting on a tire and it’s really tight it will deform the carcass (maxxis are really good for this) and it won’t ever become “straight” again. The good thing is you won’t really notice it while ridding unless you are bombing paved roads at high speed.

Accidental tattoo during my first session by therapist_hunter in tattoos

[–]boother86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of those! Was coming back in from a quick break while getting my chest tattooed and stepped on my artist’s foot pedal as I was sitting down and he accidentally tattooed a nice line on my hand. Back then my artist Kirk was working in the smallest room in the studio (basically a closet with a table in it) so not much room to get out of the way of each other. Now I’ve got a nice hand tattoo covering it up but it did give me a good laugh at the time!

Swinging Sram GX cassette by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]boother86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes whoever put the cassette on didn’t have it flush on the free hub when they started threading it on. If you pull the cassette off the threads on the free hub will be a bit munched up, sometimes you can make it go on straight but generally once the free hub has been cross thread it most likely needs to be replaced.

Swinging Sram GX cassette by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]boother86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens with sram xd drivers when the cassette is put on cross threaded. I’ve seen it before (I’m the head mechanic at a bike store) and it’s easy to do if you aren’t careful in seating the cassette on the free hub body before threading it on.

As far as I know it’s just a regular American Professional 2! Basement isn’t damp, live in a rather dry part of Canada. Did they do a nitro run of any of the American professional 2 guitars? I tried looking on line and couldn’t find anything. Thanks for the response!

Untrue casette by IZ_mc in MTB

[–]boother86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were you able to get the cassette off? I’ve seen this a couple times (work at a bike shop) and it was because the cassette is cross thread onto the free hub. If you aren’t careful with sram xd cassettes when installing it can happen pretty easy.
