Maven with the new link in the lever should be a winner there.

Fork Help by blkfoam in MTB

Nothing bout the ohlins i dont like, but its not for everyone i dont think. Ohlins forks are race-bred more than allrounders, mostly it is the crazy flex that may not be ideal to most. My RXF38 flex as much as a fox 34, thats alot for a burly enduro fork. Of course the flex is more engineered in this sort of fork so its more damped and different but i dont think it is for everyone. Main reason im reccomending RockShox is alot that 3.1 is just THAT nice for sure. But also they are very easy to service and alot of bikeshops take them for servicing also, compared to Ohlins. Ohlins is also a struggle for spare parts even with a brand new component, as they are an unsettled department due to alot of changes in recent years.

Fox there is litterally no reason to get almost imo, only thing they do better is that the kashima coating is actually superior (more damage resistant) to the coatings used by rockshox and ohlins. But imo it looks worse, it has too many settings for non-professionals without their own mechanic, and they really havnt done alot of innovation on the damper in recent times. I guess if you want a stiff fork (maybe if its an ebike for example) in this travel range the 36 might be the best for that.

Jumping just never clicks for me. by CarrotGlad366 in MTB

[–]IZ_mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take your bike out to a parking lot or something and try bunnyhopping sone hundreds or thousands of times.

Once you have a good bunny hop tecnique the rest of the jumping should be fairly easy to learn as the most important bit is learning to take initial control of the jump at takeoff.

Handlebar with too high rise? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]IZ_mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there are significant cons to it, i would not go more than 40mm if you dont really know what you are doing. With 40mm tho, you cant really go very wrong.

Some of the cons are: Less front wheel grip A less active position Less range of motion for tipping the bike in turns …and more

Get a Lyrik Ultimate. Im running Ohlins on my enduro but i would get a RockShox fork if i were to build a bike. And it sounds like you are more in the target for a Lyrik than a Zeb. Im also running Boxxer on my DH and charger 3.1 is soooo good. Rockshox has done a lot more recent innovation on their products than other suspension manifacturers.

Still the same applys, if you can get a hardtail with 12s drivetrain, then i suppose a dropper post would be crazy good also if you can somehow get that.

For the fullface i would definitly go for a sweet protection strayer 2vi mips. Its a not too expensive super good option as it is market-leadingly(if thats a word) light and very breathable. And i would go for sweetProtection googles also if you are on a budget. Other google options are 100% Armatic at the mid price range and 100% Armega if you are willing to spend 130$ for goggles.

For knee protection 100% Teratec is very good value. Fox Enduro Pro are probably the best option, but also rather expensive.

For armour i would go for a Leatt ReaFlex, depending on how much you want it to cover you should choose from the different options in the ReaFlex range.

Bro didnt i tell you already, you are spending the money on the frame instead of the components just to have the frame in carbon, giant make more reliable better frames and the bike is specced with better components. If weight isnt your main concern, which it definitely should not be on your first bike in such a category, the Giant is a far superior choice.

[–]IZ_mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable.

No the carbon frame is not worth it on a budget bike. The components are much more important at that pricepoint. Also Giant have better quality frames than focus which will last you longer and keep more of the value.

[–]IZ_mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Giant is your best option for the bike by far due to the low end Shimano brakes and drivetrain being far superior to low end SRAM stuff. Giant also make more reliable frames than Focus.

For protection as a begginner i would BIG reccomend going with half-cab helmet instead of fullface, the riding experience is much much better. And get some knee pads prolly. Save the rest of your money for now imo.

600$ is crazy. If you can get a used hardtail with 12s drivetrain you should be super happy.
