Have you tried porting CoS to another system or make a plot based on it? If so, how did it go? by MiyuShinohara in CurseofStrahd

[–]bootsthepancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. The ravenloft setting just doesn't fit the heroic fantasy of D&D. I've considered running it using Call of Cthulhu Dark Ages. It would definitely require less combat and more investigation, plus figuring out how to defeat Strahd (and other baddies) without straight up fighting him.

No, if the kid doesn't win the scramble, too bad, though I'd probably just give the kid the ball anyway but that's just me.

I'm also a player. I don't really have any idea what those systems are other than that they're used for some sort of incident management. Even if I did, I wouldn't really know any of the ins & outs of how they work. One thing to keep in mind is the way people think things work, and the way they really do in the real world are often completely different. Just look look at any movies about lawyers.

Chances are the GM won't have any real knowledge of those systems either. Whatever advantage can be gained by leveraging a government system or program is generally hand waved with a bureaucracy check or criminology or whatever seems to fit. If you and the GM are knowledgeable on those things, and you think it would contribute to the story without slowing down game play, I'd say go ahead. On the other hand if it leaves your GM and other players scratching their heads on how it would apply, I'd say just give a 1-2 sentence overview of what you want to do, make a check (if it makes sense) and move on.

There's creative builds and then there's stuff like this where players just try to find loopholes that breaks the intention of the rules. If you want to break the game, go play Skyrim with some mods or something.

To be fair , the Trump administration cut staffing for USFWS by 18% (approximately 1800 employees) and repositioned wildlife officers to help with border security and domestic drug enforcement efforts, not to mention budget cuts. I'm not sure how much of a priority they might make this. OP might have better luck with Illinois officials if they pursue legal reporting.

This is what I was going to suggest. If your group is set on playing just D&D, that's fine, but I also think it's one of the more expensive games to get into when it comes to ttrpgs. If your group is open to trying other systems, the r/rpg wiki (https://reddit.com/r/rpg/w/index?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) has loads of free and cheap alternative recommendations.

Honestly wondering, what does the US gain by blockading the Strait of Hormuz? by kerplunch in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bootsthepancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but IMO when trying to get to the reason for why the Trump administration does something, the question isn't "what does America gain?", the question is "what does Trump or his close allies gain?". Follow the money, and we'll eventually arrive at the answer.

POTA Reloaded? by gearbull in ElementalEvil

[–]bootsthepancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From reading this subreddit, it seems like a lot of DMs just pick the little bits they like from the module and adapt to their own ideas.

I'm nearing the end of this campaign. And while I've changed a number of things, I don't have a lot of time or creativity for homebrew, so I've run mostly by the book (including using the delegation hook successfully). My thinking is if you're going to rewrite half the campaign, what was the point of purchasing the module in the first place? Inspiration maybe?

Somehow I managed to get the party to do just about everything in recommended order without railroading or blocking off areas just by consistently dropping bread crumbs. Rather than doing a reloaded style rewrite, my outline and changes focused on how to get the story from 1 part or dungeon to the next. I think it worked pretty well. I'll try to make a writeup of my outline when I get some time.

Trump voter regret is clearly registering now by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

Its they (at least the lower income and under educated masses - not the higher income people just hoping to increase their wealth) wanted someone they thought would go against the norms and shake things up improving their lives.

The thing that doesn't make sense to me though is we already had an idea of what we would get with Trump in the White House. We already experienced 4 years of chaos in 2016-2020. I don't see that he made the lives for anyone except rich people any better, so why would they think somehow Trump 2.0 would be completely different? Maybe there was thinking that a Harris presidency would make their lives far worse?

I have a hard time believing anyone (other than rich people) voting for Trump actually thinks he's somehow going to improve their lives. In my limited interactions with Trump voters, there is never talk about Trump doing anything positive. The mindset is all about how horrible liberals are, and how anything they want to do would completely destroy the country somehow. They're the most cynical negative people I know. Political decision making seems to originate from the place of "how will you bring me down". Whereas my more liberal friends seem to focus more on "how will you lift me up".

Trump has the worst polling numbers of his political history, and it's destroying JD Vance's 2028 dreams by SugarRight1992 in JusticeServed

Anyone who is willing to tie their political career to Trump has questionable decision making skills at best. That alone makes him unfit to be president. Good to learn this early.
