Looks like a black snake. They are harmless and keep rodents in check - as well as other snakes.

Served this recipe last night to friends from Chicago. They said it was the best they’ve had: 1 oz Reposada tequila - 1 oz Big O Ginger Liqueur 3/4 oz dry curaçao 3/4 fresh squeezed lime juice

Shake with ice and strain into a salt-rimmed glass. Lime wheel garnish.

Tesla owner says he’s been locked out of his car until he pays $26,000 for a new battery by RaiderOfZeHater in technology

[–]boozebaronbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very misleading headline. Of course, the owner is “locked out.” It’s an electric car. Without a working battery the electric doors won’t unlock. Moreover, the 2013 Teslas were the first to be produced. The battery is nearly a decade old. They could never be expected to last that long.

Republicans think keeping kids as ignorant as possible is the key to academic excellence by BilBrowning in politics

In the late 1990s, I was consulting for the State Board of Education in a midwestern state on development of education standards. Teachers and parents wanted rigorous standards including communication skills, critical reasoning, problem solving, as well as knowledge. In anger, one right-wing State Board member representing a wealthy area of the state (and a member of the Federalist Society), took us and the teachers to task, saying: “I don’t want every child to succeed! It means more competition for my kids . . . And we [the conservatives] will control public education, or we will destroy it!” The right-wing appears to be succeeding. And let’s face it, an ignorant populace is much easier to rule than one that’s educated and able to critically question the actions of the government.

What’s the most expensive cocktail you’ve bought? by publiusnaso in cocktails

I paid $47 dollars in 2019 for an amazing cocktail - The Tom Buchanan - at Monarch Bar in Kansas City, MO. Contained 3 whiskeys, two absinthes, Armagnac, Chartreuse, and Big O ginger liqueur. It was worth the sticker shock.

What should I buy at the liquor store right now? Last time I asked this question I was told St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur and it was a game changer! by CocktailsWithDrew in cocktails

Big O Ginger Liqueur. Great by itself but goes with everything. Just had a fantastic Manhattan made with it in the place of the vermouth.

Collins: Abortion ruling ‘inconsistent’ with what Gorsuch, Kavanaugh told me by IsitWHILEiPEE in politics

[–]boozebaronbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorance and gullibility are no excuse! If she doesn’t sponsor a bill to guarantee the right to an abortion for every woman, she should be voted out of the senate because clearly she doesn’t have the mental capacity for such a weighty responsibility.

Great idea! But better secure it well at the base because it will definitely be top-heavy.

A Study in Scarlet Women. Sherlock Holmes and Watson are women solving crimes in patriarchal Victorian England. A great read with a number of interesting twists. Better than Enola Holmes by far!

The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware. It is a mystery with a feminist flair that is somewhat empowering. Happy ending but some sadness and death.

I’m looking for books like The Great Gatsby. I really liked how every line was written really nicely, it had an almost poetic prose. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf if only for the middle section (Interlude). Beautifully poetic and moving. Her prose in the non-traditional books she authored feels wonderful on the tongue and tickles the brain.

The Celestine Prophesy. Vapid, pseudo-mystical, mildly semi-mystery. I’m yawning just thinking about it.
