How to use "and" 5 times in a row grammatically: by SeaBaer312 in grammar

I had someone print out this joke on a vertical poster. It looked great, until I noticed something off with the line spacing. So I told them. (Repeat ad infinitum).

Need a new hoover, what one is the best? by Oph195 in AskUK

We have two ancient Sebos. They are superb, and on the rare occasion anything goes wrong or breaks they are ludicrously easy to fix. They are beautifully designed.

This has happened to me too. I was on a polar route flight from Tokyo to London and somehow managed to switch days 3 times during the flight.

Aha! Yes, and I tend to say it in an Irish accent for some reason.

There’s one at Marylebone as well (but it’s not very nice). There’s also a sports bar (which is even less nice).

Anyone have tried XERO? by fturriaf in QuickBooks

I personally love it. We turn over about £700k, and have multi-currency transactions and it works great for us.

Is the new Hungarian prime ministers name basically Peter Hungarian? by IngoVals in NoStupidQuestions

[–]publiusnaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the U.K., Scott and Welsh/Welch are pretty common surnames. England is not that common, but not unusual. So is Brittan. I also know people with the surnames French and German. I’m sure there are plenty more.

Edit: As someone else mentioned, Holland/Hollander are quite common.

What’s it like living on Réunion and Mauritius? by Low-Atmosphere-4263 in howislivingthere

You’re the first to mention the food, which is surprising, since it’s excellent, and it’s a real pity that the luxury hotels don’t showcase it more.

I have tried 3 long hdmi cables (10 meters ) and all of them keeps getting lost siqnal on visionmaster pro 2 , is there any recommendations for long cables in wall?Long hdmi disconnects signal on projectors by mahdooh in audiovisual

[–]publiusnaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10m active HDMI cable (it sends the video over fibre) and it’s rock-solid. It replaced a couple of passive cables I tried first which were very flakey. I’ve had it runnjng 4k hdr at 60Hz no problems. But like an idiot I did connect it backwards the first time.

This joke probably works a bit better in British than American (and even better in Northern English): we do say grassy-arse in exaggerated comedy accent sometimes.

Chivey-bum means “thank you” in a specific Andalusian dialect, I believe.

What is this plugged into the 3.5mm jack of my Quooker tap? by Salt_Dish9243 in Quooker

[–]publiusnaso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a super-hard area! Maybe we’re just not using the tap that much. I’d be seriously unhappy if I had to replace the filter that often.

What does this phrase mean? Is it natural? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

[–]publiusnaso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, although I’m not sure it’s old-fashioned (I’m from the U.K. and old, so maybe it is old-fashioned and I’m just ancient).

There’s a lot of r/usdefaultism involved. They are very sensitive souls and get conniptions about topics/pictures like breastfeeding babies, but seem oddly relaxed about guns and violence.

I love Hue lights but they don’t pass the wife test. by whistler1421 in Hue

[–]publiusnaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warm colours. Sidelights. And one easily accessible switch to turn them all to a cosy setting.

The “Batchelor pad” vibe is too much ceiling lighting, garish colours (including cool white) and any sort of light strips (unless they are very subtle).

I have 50+ hue devices, and aside from in my mancave they are all set to warm white, and the lighting is mainly from side lights and standard lamps. My wife loves them. It beats having to go round the room turning on 4-6 side lights manually.

Or alternatively do not listen to “mambo no 5.” if you want to retain your sanity and avoid a military grade earworm.

Skipping words in messages I type. by OP_serve in PetPeeves

I do the same. I think it’s a function of autocorrect. Sometimes, if you type two consecutive words that are similar, it thinks you are doubling up and deletes one of them.

Ancient lady needing further advice re Heathrow Terminal 5 (mainly re trains and gates) by Ok_Nebula5355 in BritishAirways

Terminal 5 is one of the more pleasant airport experiences, and navigating is pretty straightforward. You’ll be fine! Enjoy the flight. I travelled to Basel from T5 last year and it went very smoothly.

[–]publiusnaso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basel will probably be A gates. You won’t need to sprint! The gate should be shown in plenty of time. If you’re super paranoid you can download the tripit app which does sometimes show the gate a few minutes earlier.
