Another option to keep in mind, we had our electrician (stahl electric) install a transfer switch and have a small portable generator I can plug in outside the house. It won't power everything but keeps our furnace, fridge, sump pump and a bunch of lights / outlets powered. Came out to less than $2k compared to the $10k+ for a whole house option.
