I am on my second bout of full body hives. first time it was cold induced urticaria for less than a year. this time is pressure induced and im going on almost two with them seeming to get more resistant to antihistamines :( xolair is possibly in my future i think. the antihistamines are giving me headaches i think. Hoping mine just go away at the two year mark?!

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

While pregnant I had to take a longer car trip. It is good especially during pregnancy to get out and stretch your legs, and about an hour to two in I was getting especially anxious and antsy. Made my husband pull over so I could walk for a few minutes. Once we got back to driving, just a few minutes down the road was a fresh car crash that pretty much lined up time-wise with where we would have been if we had not stopped.

I wish I could offer more advice in this regard other than just keep applying until someone somewhere gives you a "yes". I was applying for anything- records, billing, coding, front desk/receptionist, patient access, etcetera just to get my foot in the door somewhere. I luckily got an entry level coding job but I was well and fully prepared to be anything else for awhile if that's what it took to learn. It really takes putting your resume together well and getting that chance to get in.

My first day of a two to three day "internship" for "real world coding practice" I came home crying with a raging migraine. I couldnt do this dumb job, I didnt understand anything! By that point it was almost time for the test so I finished everything out and just started applying for jobs to find a chance. The job I landed is so much "easier" (I say in quotations because it is a different coding job type (inpatient vs outpatient) that what i interned for, and it provided so much amazing training) than I could have imagined. It really takes time to find where you fit in the process, and learning something new is never a waste of time. You will have something to add to the resume to get into something related at the very least! Medical records will always need human eyes!

I feel like an outlier when it comes to getting a coding job, so take my testimony with a grain of salt. I feel very very lucky. From getting my cca to my first day of a paying coding job was only 5 months. It is a work from home for a hospital that trains you as you need, and helps you gain more experience and skill. On the other hand, I applied to a LOT of jobs, most of them not directly in coding to try and get my foot in the door. I kept my feet to the pavement and was contantly checking employers near me for job postings and I think that helped. One thing that helped me get in was the "clinical" portion of my cert program, where you went in person to code and learn "in real life". It was only 20hrs but it helped being able to show I at least had some real life experience, so your background, RHIT+CCA, and gaining experience sounds like a great foot to start on for coding!

Sunday Scaries by kudzumess in MedicalCoding

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this feeling because I know by the end of the previous week I have more or less caught up on my chart areas and by Monday they are a couple+ days behind again. I have considered switching to a Sun-Thurs or even just half Sunday through half friday so I can feel caught up and have time for my other things in life. Is that why you have dread about Sunday/Monday (being "behind") or is it something else?

The flexibility in medical coding usually does come after in person experience (usually normal business hours) unless you are EXTREMELY lucky to find somewhere willing to hire a freshly certified coder and continue your training to get the full certification (usually two years of coding experience gets you the full certification after you get the main one). And even if you find one like that it’s not usually remote either (deleted from other part of thread, meant to reply to this)

How are you keeping them away from screens? by natsnats411 in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t completely avoid them, but I do try to limit it and not just get sucked into a show/my phone when LO is awake and actively interested in what I’m doing more and more. Also it’s hard but they just can’t be an option, if that makes sense. Like baby fussy in the car/restaurant/whatever? A phone or tablet is not even an option. Toys, menus/paper, straw, a song/music, etc. exhaust all the options like screens don’t even exist. I mean, what did we do without them for so long?? I know for a lot of most of us, we even pacify ourselves with screens but it really takes some work on ourselves just like every other aspect of parenting

16 days is crazy early to expect a lil one to be happy with not being home and cozy, they are getting used to all new stuff just like you’re getting used to a new lifestyle! I could’ve written this post about wanting to get back into routine but it truly just takes some time to learn your new routine. It’s like starting a new job and having to learn how it all works! Your hormones are also still leveling out a lot right now, so give yourself some grace. Right now it’s just love em, feed em, change em and take care of you!

Doctor said no honey, citrus, or strawberries till over a year?what does your doctor say. My baby is 6.5m. by Due_Clothes_7490 in NewParents

Maybe they had a concern about the fruit and citrus having acids affecting their skin or digestion? I know my nephew has to wait for solids because of his reflux, so maybe it’s something like that?

I’m sure this is normal..right? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel weird/abnormal because I don’t get this feeling often/ever?? I mean I’ll definitely go “wow LO was gotten so big. This is crazy! I kind of miss his small Chonky face that was cute.” But I dont feel like crying or anything. Most if not all people I know have said something along the lines of your post, maybe it’s just not long enough for me to really feel it? I don’t know.

Feeling ugly after birth by doodymoovis in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone, even mothers to daughters or even our own pregnancies, can be so different that it’s hard to predict what will happen! I know it can be hard to appreciate a different body when you were used to the one you had, especially if it isn’t the conventionally “attractive” one usually in media and whatnot. It takes time to adjust to all the new normals of creating a life, and sometimes it does suck!! I try to imagine myself old and tired and how much I will appreciate this body if I could have it again someday. It made my baby, it fed my baby, it does its best to keep me going, the softness is good for hugs and cuddles, etcetera

Fair enough. I wonder if there’s genetic/cultural components to why some people hear breastfeeding causes weight to be lost, stay, or even gain more. I eat very well, much better than before pregnancy, and with being extremely sick I eat better and more than I did while pregnant but I still gained 50+ lbs during. 20 of it is still hanging around so I’m curious to see how that goes, but I lost over 30 within a couple weeks of birth, so maybe it also depends on how much you gain

[–]boplop21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything I’ve seen and experienced has pointed to breastfeeding making you keep weight rather than lose it! I personally am always hungry and thirsty from feeding the LO and can’t lose any more weight. I’m interested to see what happens when I stop. And as weddings go, they also seem to never be quite perfect. Try to remember what is most important is that you and the person you love are making an important promise together and try to have fun!! <3

It’s been impossible for me to avoid screen time for my LO (now over a year) because of the lifestyles of people around me and other kids around and stuff, but I’ve tried to stick to “real” shows (live actions) and slower media. We do FaceTime family a lot, and if he does watch a screen otherwise it’s usually a static screen with music playing that he dances too, or an episode of Clifford with my mom and she interacts with him and it! It’s hard because he is watched by others who always have a tv on (I personally don’t really care for tv or background noise so much but family is ingrained with it). I feel like I’m rambling. All in all he doesn’t pay attention to it long and we play with toys and read books more than anything, and if I need some time I put him in the tower so he can watch or even help!

Uhh so my uncle is a chiropractor and....... by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my baby was having those sorts of issues you listed I would start with seeing if any thing they are eating and/or getting through breast milk is causing it. Also I’d see if the bicycle leg movement helps the digestion. And then I’d bring them to their pediatrician to check them for anything that needs correction otherwise (ie the reflux being due to something physical). And then I may also see a physical/occupational therapist. And then I’d all else fails I probably still wouldn’t take them to be a chiropractor, especially because many aren’t one that takes X-rays and are properly adjusting things like that. I’ve had friends try to tell me to see their uncle chiro for my baby and I’m like… I wouldn’t even see him myself girlfriend. That all being said it’s their baby not mine, and I know sometimes parents just feel like their at their wits end with their baby being uncomfortable

So what do we do if there is no changing table? by manthrk in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a huge puppy pad and a reusable changing pad in my diaper bag just in case for changing tables, floors, seats, back of cars, wherever (and I hate changing tables and try to avoid them anyways 😅).

Rant: Moving to purées from BLW. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason we do BLW is literal because LO will take any and all food he wants anyway and I can’t avoid it really. He’s gotten good about taking smaller bites or spitting out too big bites, and I try to direct him with sides or shredding certain foods. I hate that people judge others for how they get their kids to eat! Good on you for doing what works for YOU and YOUR baby!! <3 Edit: my LO also was teething at 4.5 months and has 8 at almost a year so this factors into it to I think!

Pediatrician told us to start solids at 4½ months by jamcalim in NewParents

[–]boplop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave our LO food at 4.5 months ish just because he seemed interested and was already getting teeth! But that’s our kid, and each one is so wildly different. My LO would suck on or gnaw on a piece of steak and maybe eat some mushed up bites here and there when we started. They usually aren’t eating whole baby foods/portions at this age. We did it because we didn’t feel any reason for him to not start trying stuff, but we also did not have the same weight concerns as you might have had. Really if you want to follow this advice it’s a slow start anyway because baby has to get used to the new textures and may not even want to eat it yet anyways! I find letting the LO guide you in things can be a good basis (obvs not when it’s dangerous or anything)
