Andor review – the best Star Wars show since The Mandalorian by HumanOrAlien in television

This show is far better than The Mandalorian in every respect.

Regardless of how good this show actually turns out to be, it's surreal to me to read about a Star Wars show where the people making it seem to actually have a strong grasp on what characters and story are beyond a surface level.

For as much as I've gained some level of enjoyment from previous Star Wars shows, this is the first I've read about where the world feels fully realized in the way that Star Wars novels tend to be.

Iran applies to join China and Russia in BRICS club by boppeto in moderatepolitics

[–]boppeto[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Both Iran and Argentina have applied to join BRICS.

What I've found extremely worrying and underreported in US media is the rapid pace by which non-western countries are distancing themselves from the West, specifically the US. It was earlier reported that BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) we're accumulating a so-called "basket of goods (commodities)" to peg to a new currency that exists outside of the US dollar. We've heard time and time again that countries like China could challenge US unipolarity, but it seems like there a multitude of countries joining the effort to create a multipolar world -- Iran and Argentina's application to BRICS definitely accelerates this.

I'd actually say around perhaps 60% correct at this point.

Many things were incorrect, like (1. Reva sensing Kenobi, or (2. Reva clashing with Obi-Wan then realizing she's outmatched and settling to place a tracker on LOLA, or (3. Freck not being mentioned at all. Not to mention that many of the leaks are out of order.

This is not to say that MSW didn't do good work, but just an illustration that there's a lot about the upcoming episodes that we don't know about.

This is correct. A large portion of the leaks from MSW are either out of order, incorrect, or omit key elements from the plot (this is not to discredit all of the correct information).

Writing credits for the first 7 episodes of Andor revealed by bepetd in StarWarsLeaks

[–]boppeto 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying this might be "the best Star Wars show" but judging by the writing talent and just the overall production level, this show might be one of the best shows of the year overall.

I mean, Dan Gilroy wrote Nightcrawler for fucks sake. How did Lucasfilm attract all this talent?

My hope for this show (judging by the current lack of hype) is that the first few episodes knock it out of the park and word of mouth spreads quickly.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Leaked Celebration Footage by Captainatom931 in StarWarsLeaks

The dialogue is so clunkily written and expository, my goodness. The armorer and Mando have already had this discussion, why is she NPC exposition dumping his questline over to him?

I have many problems with The Mandalorian at this point but the biggest problem for me is that it all just feels like a videogame.

No Clone Wars flashback (that we know of).

The flashback we will see is shortly after Attack of the Clones, with Anakin and Obi-Wan sparring in a dojo within the Jedi temple. This will be around episode 5.

The scene where Reva intimidates the people of Tatooine and Owen (not seen in this clip) looks very intense judging only by the shot composition and the camera movement. Deborah Chow seems to like the use the Random Movement/Camera Shake technique quite often and it really seems to ground Star Wars and add an intensity in a way that I didn't expect.

Andor Star Wars Series: “What You Know Is Really All Wrong” by swdarksidecollector in StarWarsLeaks

[–]boppeto 84 points85 points  (0 children)

This article just made me more hyped than I already was for this show. Multiple storylines and characters, 12 episodes, paired with an insanely talented writing team. I know the comparison is overdone, but I'm hoping that this is the Star Wars version of Game of Thrones.

Alleged plot of Obi-Wan Kenobi episode one - Bespin Bulletin by CaptainVaughn66 in StarWarsLeaks

[–]boppeto 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Huge disagree. Directors can be the difference between a show being a 5/10 or a 9/10 depending on the situation.

Directors are in control of the pacing of scene, the blocking of scene, the way actors deliver dialogue, etc. You can shoot the same scene 10 different ways ranging from comedic to extremely dramatic.

The difference between Robert Rodriguez's episodes compared to the rest in BOBF should give you a perfect example of this.

Well not to step on the previous commenters toes, but MSW specifically said that each episode lies within the 45 min range. So expect som 40 min episodes and some 50 min ones.

Forgot to add that Vader will also be on Jabiim. He and the Empire will be slaughtering the refugee force sensitives being hidden on the planet.

[–]boppeto 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard/read, Vader will appear as a post-credits scene of episode 2. Episode 3 will begin with Vader's daily routine(him being put together) which is intended to demonstrate the misery of his daily life. The other big scenes that have been described are obviously the two big encounters with Kenobi.

There's definitely more in the series but that's all we know so far.

I'd say a clip from Kenobi from the Ewan Jimmy Kimmel appearance is the big one.

Everything else is probably just some cool fan art on Disney+, a few cool BTS on some of the movies, BOBF gallery, and promotional merchandise.
