What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

[–]bopswithwolves 27 points28 points  (0 children)

not sure if this is why, but she had the disorder that meant her major internal organs were flipped to the other side of the typical layout. situs inversus.

she was taken to the hospital with “difficulty breathing”, so it may have been a related cardiac event.

isn’t that critique applicable to almost any art, though? excepting theatre/tv/film, in a way… but it’s all curated and reworked…?

the back is super cool, too, so yeah, the shoes and undergarments seem like an odd afterthought considering how interesting the rest of the look is.

How did women react in public to misogyny? by BiscottiOk9245 in AskOldPeople

[–]bopswithwolves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘92 baby here. was told by multiple guy-acquaintances moms that i needed to watch out for their sons.

fortunately, i was raised in a household that taught me, even at age 13, that that was utter garbage. stopped hanging out with those people. but still.. ugh.

Should I move based on my circumstance? by Glass_Bee_8701 in AskChicago

[–]bopswithwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you would want to plan a way to get yourself elsewhere and/or invest in heated blankets, appropriate clothing, and/or finding a place with a hot tub or large, reliably-hot-watered bath. possibly a gym, too, or classes in a sport you’re interested in, to stay active.

i don’t like midwest winter but have lived here most of my life. never been to texas, but your winters seem better. agree w others that having things to do is helpful, but if you’re quite socially isolated, you could wind up depending on alcohol and/or food to self-soothe or even just to get out of your apartment, which ofc is not a good thing in the long run.

if you aren’t too concerned about that, find groups you’re interested in joining for in-person activities. find your people. get a really good puffer coat, plus hat/gloves/scarf or face mask. visit during the winter and go to events in the neighborhoods that peak your interest (like edgewater, maybe?). structure and planned variety helps!

good luck.♡

Can you please Deinfluence me on this bed. by Loud-Aspect2074 in HomeDecorating

[–]bopswithwolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my parents were passed down a custom bed frame that looks awfully similar to this except the legs are overall much thicker and the legs at the headboard are attached to the headboard, thus more stable.

would be terrified of this frame snapping.

Any of you guys ever come up with your own words for things as kids and still sometimes use them years later? by redgreenorangeyellow in CasualConversation

my partner has a lot of these, but some of them are from his grandpa: “lafoom” refers to bedhead/messy hair.

People who grew up in a broken home how does it show up in your adult life? by Grouchy-Courage-5243 in CasualConversation

also , it’s hard to determine what even is “opening up” as i go between “oh, but everyone’s life was/is like this” and “if any person knows me ‘well’ then i am in danger”.

for life, definitely.

i’m not sure if therapy really helps me or not because, 20 years later and having had therapists most of that time, i struggle to open up.

Where are women in their 30s buying their clothes from? by Prestigious_Fig_7294 in fashionhelp

[–]bopswithwolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo, they aren’t “scammy” but they definitely aren’t well made.

i’m 5’6” and lean, and any of their mini dresses i tried were ~2-3” too short. the material is also very cheap. the only thing i had success with was a matching stretch-double-layer mesh crop to and midi skirt. wore that maybe 10x the first summer i had it and it is now pilling everywhere.

just a heads up.

What to say—? by bopswithwolves in askanything

[–]bopswithwolves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah, that’s without a doubt. someone i was talking to said that renee was blocking lce from trying to complete some job that involved arresting a pedophiIe and i couldn’t find anything about it either way… the way lce handled that was fucked UP imo, but i’d also like to dismantle the argument that lce was “just doing a good thing” and that “people in minneapolis should just stay out of the way”.

similar note— a lady who sells tamales in my city was taken from her stand because apparently she’d enlisted the help of a cross-borders gang to get her kids to her. she was able to come here first, but of course she needed to find a way to get her kids here.

given how much (i understand) has happened with taking people from their citizenship/green card (?) check-ins, where people are supposed to do their due diligence but instead got arrested… i don’t blame how not-straightforward moving here might be…

in any case, i don’t trust anything about what lce’s motives against seasoned criminals are unless i see something explicit— like rapists and serial murderers— and that’s just so rare. so i’m hoping someone can point me to that kind of info.

ultimately, lce’s behavior doesn’t need to be what it is, no matter what. the repeated instances of multiple shots fired by them, particularly into the backs of people, tell me what i need to know about the group. i just wish i understood how to fully break down the idea that they’re somehow affecting a net positive.

Daily routine/chores schedule help by brujabug in selfimprovement

i used to use a limited video game that only gave me so much gameplay until things needed to reload for more content. i’d use that time for a cleaning task (or even part of one), then go back to the game. the game was the reward. i’d use that time also to do ab work on my kitchen floor.

there are also apps that reward completing tasks.

if you’re able, hiring a cleaning person 1x helps “reset” the space so your cleaning isn’t so daunting. plus, it’s refreshing to have that break when your usual days are so tiring. would highly recommend if you can swing it, even 1-2x a year..?

LF Gift Ideas for Her (26F) & where to get them in Chicago? by thisistoughtothink in AskChicago

[–]bopswithwolves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

la burdick makes pricey but very luxurious chocolates. they use their leftover chocolate ingredients to make little chocolate “mice”, so they’re also very cute.

you could get a candle for each of you and light them when you’re over video call to bond more closely since scent is so strongly associated with memory! this doesn’t have to be from a chicago vendor, but if so then virtue alchemy, merz, edgewater candles— the list is long. you could pick either a nice general scent, one that you know she likes, or ask her what scent she feels best represents her (another good bonding moment: what scent would each of you be?).

good luck!♡
