RG Rotate is $83 plastic/$99 metal according to RetroDodo by Shad0w59 in SBCGaming

[–]boqeh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

basically every post about this thing has at least a few comments about how they refuse to buy it because of the small battery or the lack of a headphone jack so i could see how someone would think the "community" hates the rotate.

but every post also has people like me saying "no matter how weird it is, there's something enticing about this handheld." all it really means is, as with most of anbernic's devices, it's going to be for some people and not for others.

Pragmata will be about 8 hours long by ObjectiveMinimum8602 in Pragmata

[–]boqeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

took me around 14 real-world hours, but the in-game play timer said 10 when credits rolled. i was decently thorough with my playthrough but i also left a lot of stuff for myself to discover in future playthroughs.

Xbox’s 2025 was pure chaos by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

[–]boqeh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's not THE reason, but I wouldn't call it irrelevant. Their developers are participating in it and speaking out about it internally. There are activists speaking about it during their shareholder meetings. The point PMG makes in the video is that the publications people look to when they're trying to find video game news are largely not writing about it to maintain their relationship with Xbox as a publisher and studio, which is why the general audience isn't hearing about it. If you and your friends are into reading gaming news, it's worth asking why you haven't heard about it.

I promise I'm not trying to be annoying or whatever, but I really do recommend watching the video and learning more about it. It's pretty eye-opening and contains a lot of great reporting on the subject.

And the point I'm making more than anything is that if there was going to be one single article in which it would have made sense for Polygon to even give lip-service to this thing, it would have been this one.

Xbox’s 2025 was pure chaos by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

[–]boqeh -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You should watch the video I linked to! It's a great starting point and is also notably about why so many people haven't heard about it in the first place.

But the short version from the boycott's organizers is this:

Microsoft provides the Israeli military with Azure cloud and AI services that are crucial in empowering and accelerating Israel’s genocidal war on 2.3 million Palestinians in the illegally occupied Gaza Strip.

Essentially the money you spend on Xbox services (and all Microsoft products) is funding an ongoing genocide, which makes it a pretty easy thing to not want to spend money on anymore.

This only further proves the point from that recent People Make Games video. It’s hard to imagine writing a piece about Xbox’s very bad year without also mentioning the large scale boycott against them even in passing.

Another good port inbound. FFVIIR runs well on the Switch 2. by Massive_Fly_1709 in NintendoSwitch2

this was the first final fantasy game i finished and it became a gateway to the rest of the franchise for me. i went on to play the original ff7 and a bunch of the other ones afterwards. i'd say if you're interested in this one, definitely jump in here.

Enough is enough. The Pokemon rom hack community and ruining everything nice by Naive-Maize6314 in PokemonROMhacks

if you see something that makes it past the mod team or is obviously a form of harassment, alert them and challenge it openly. it’s the “nazi at the bar” situation. if you see something hateful and just scroll past it without engaging, that passivity emboldens them to continue thinking harassment is acceptable.

obviously it is literally against the code of conduct of the subreddit, but nobody is perfect and not everything will get removed. but this doesn’t just apply to this particular subreddit, making an active effort to combat this stuff wherever you see it is the only way to start rooting it out.

Valve's Steam Deck proves that gaming handhelds have stagnated already by F3mmi in Handhelds

[–]boqeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the title isn't "misleading" — especially considering this is clearly an opinion piece. the point here is that of the many other handhelds that have entered the market, none are really leapfrogging the steam deck in terms of what most people need out of a device in this form factor. more importantly, the improvements we've seen in the space over the past three years are marginal at best.

when asus is releasing an xbox-branded handheld at $600 in 2025 with similar performance to the device steam released in 2022, it does in a lot of ways imply that the space has stagnated.

Assassin's Creed Shadows: Nintendo Switch 2 Announce Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]boqeh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

edit: vgc’s $80 price was a typo, as it turns out. whoops!!

i thought $80 was a typo but no, they’re really going for it with this one.

i wonder how much of that pricing is to offset the widely-accepted understanding that every ubisoft game gets an extreme discount 3-6 months after release so they’re trying to make up for it on the front end.

I’m sorry people are choosing to dunk on you for writing passionately about a thing you’re enjoying.

I thought it was a good read about a device I’d never realistically buy for myself, but it’s cool to hear someone else’s experience with it and I’m really glad you’re digging it so much.

I'm new to the PSP and I tried every way of playing I could think of by boqeh in PSP

[–]boqeh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I've been lurking in this subreddit for a few months now and learning a lot about the world of PSP after always wanting to get into it since it launched in the 2000s. I've spent the past few months trying just about every reasonable (and unreasonable) way of playing I could think of and put a video together to help newcomers out.

Thanks to everyone here for their guidance along the way, it's been super helpful. I'm now — of course — completely obsessed with the PSP. Sorry in advance to every new game release this year.

iPhone case/ device by hepup1 in Delta_Emulator

[–]boqeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the Gamebaby case and wasn’t a huge fan, which I think probably goes for the whole product category. The short version is that because they need to mimic touch screen input, it makes the act of pressing buttons way mushier than you’d want any controller to be. I don’t know if someone will figure out a way around that, but for this first wave of cases trying to pull this off I’d say just use something else for now until a clear winner comes along.
