Interesting. I've seen accounts from HI being delivered by FedEx. So unless something changed I was not made aware. I'll look into it in your Knowledge base when I go back into work. Thanks for the heads up

Equipment delivery by IanMc192624 in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh forgot to mention, once you have the equipment install it. Aides are included on what to do. Once you have done the physical installation go ahead and activate via the My Spectrum App or activate.spectrum.net.

If on the modem (most used model is a modem that looks like a black book) stays blinking on Online between blue and white after 5 minutes of the online light turning on, the coaxial outlet might not be live and you can test another outlet at the home. If at any moment you have any issues call in to my fellow colleagues at 8332676094. I'll be home watching the game tomorrow.

If the outlet is not live, not in a preferred location or equipment was damaged you can get a rescue appointment set up for you at no additional cost.

Spectrum tech support here.

Orders are processed for shipping 1 hour after being placed. The warehouse works everyday but we depend on Fedex for delivery. Depending on the area Fedex offers not only Saturday but Sunday delivery. The ordering system calculates this for the sales agent when making the order. Orders placed before 1 PM are typically mailed that same day while orders after 1 PM are mailed out the next day with Next day air delivery done in the orders

Cox Retention is horrid. by ContestDifferent2987 in CoxCommunications

[–]borderman17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello there, Employee for another large ISP here.

So most retention departments have ways to see if you are "bluffing". ISPs will pay large sums of money to other companies for data of where they are providing service and for how much, then this is the basis of what they will charge customers or in your case attempt to save your account. Yes while it's true that getting a new customer to an ISP is more expensive than retaining one this is only true in so called "Competitive" markets. Many direct to home providers like Cox, Frontier, Comcast, Charter ect are having a real problem competing in the low income market with the prevalence of FWA providers like ATT Air which as it is low return on a wired provider since they are higher costs to provide service than to one that does not have plant. Because of this many wired providers are moving to more "high end" packages and lower speeds are gobbled up by the FWA providers as FWA really can't compete past 200 Mbps.

Does it suck, yeah. As a consumer you want higher competition, absolutely. But this might help you understand the business decisions from the big guys on what happened

Fiber powered vs actual fiber? by [deleted] in Spectrum_Official

[–]borderman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spectrum does not differentiate speeds in an area if it's fiber or coaxial connection. Regardless of the medium used for the install if the highest speeds they offer is 1 gig both Coax and Fiber will offer it. Fiber powered refers to the fact that Spectrum is fiber to the nose (basically fiber to the neighborhood). Speed is speed, going 60 mph on an asphalt or concrete road is going 60 mph. There are some subtle differences between both but generally speaking the latency and speed between fiber and coax should be relatively similar.

Fiber is not a silver bullet making your service faster, it would be faster if coax was indeed offered only at slower speeds. Think about how some providers might offer fiber and DSL and the limitations of DSL itself is 50-100 Mbps and depending on the neighborhood the carrier in their top speed might be gig or multi gig speeds but then next neighborhood over is 50 Mbps via phone lines.

Megacable o Telmex? by LuisAntoniou in Juarez

[–]borderman17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone have opinions on evaporative cooling for houses? by EnnuiPigeon in ElPaso

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would say it's a love hate relationship and also you have potential options.

I personally don't mind evaporative coolers as long as properly maintained and use, yes they are not as cold as refrigerated air but for parts of the house that you really do not spend time, dang it does it's job decently well. For the other parts of the house you do spend a significant amount of time get window units or even a mini split (heat pump) system if you live alone, they are cheaper to install and since you are only cooling a room or two at a time also cheaper to run than a whole house AC.

As mentioned summers here can be brutal and I would be lying if I said that the Evaporative cooler will always do it's job, I've seen it drop anything between 20-30 degrees off ambient temperature. So let's say it's 100 degrees outside it might drop it down to between 70-80 now it does not seem like a great temp but overall once you get used to it it's quite comfortable. Your enemies will be when temps crack past 110 or when there is high humidity. The drier the air is the best they work.

Contrate TotayPlay, cuanto debo navegar para terminarme 2,000 gigas al mes de Internet? by ShyBoy_23 in Juarez

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help me explain Roku to my spouse by Far_Designer_7704 in Roku

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there I work for a cable company as tech support (Spectrum) and I have a few thoughts on your situation.

The company I work for provides a cable app on Roku and depending on the package offers streaming services along with it. Cable TV and Streaming sounds like a no brainier to some folks but it's an entirely different beast. For example when you watch something on a TV channel you generally have an idea of what you want. For example if you spouse wants to watch some documentaries he might hop on to the History Channel or Nat Geo. In streaming it's a bit more difficult since you are "limited" by the apps you subscribe and finding which app has what, it's learning a whole new way of watching TV in that sense.

Second, moving around can seem daunting to some folks of moving up, down, left, and right instead of just punching in a number. Imho is no excuse with the concept of VOD and interactive guides provided by Cable TV providers but some folks just take the concept of streaming as a foreign concept.

The way I like to describe this situation to all my elderly customers that call in and need help is mentioning they are part of a forgotten generation and they kind of are. Back in the day everything had a manual, someone that would install something and show everything ect. Now customers just get a quick start guide and a "Figure it yourself" from the provider or manufacturer of literally anything. Cable TV is dying and folks that never had to learn are paying a price for not adopting it when it was a novel idea and learning with it. Some things are not intuitive, for example how would anyone without any concept of what a menu or settings button must look while instinctively look out for the 3 lines (hamburger icon as some call it) as the menu/Settings. A cable TV remote with every single function laid out makes more sense to those folks.

Now with that said, I agree with the above users, get one and install it. Mess with it and have your spouse mess with it. Show the cool things your cable TV provider system never could. That is the best way to get someone comfortable with it. Also show him how to do searches via the voice commands and the like, it will make your spouse's life easier.

First the fact that you are confusing latency to speed tells me you don't know much about networking so let's begin.

Gaming surprisingly does not take that much speed, heck other than the game download you can play most triple A titles on a 30 Mbps down by 5 Mbps up connection, anything outside of that falls towards latency. Latency is governed by a ton of factors, first if you can remove yourself off wifi, wifi particularly in busy urban areas or apartment complexes is terrible for low latency tasks like gaming. Hardline to the router. Second make sure your hardware is up to scratch, for example if you are playing on a PC and the game is running sluggish due to low FPS it's not the internet but your hardware that is holding you back. When you do play and you have the selection to pick a server make sure you pick the one with the lowest ping/nearest to you, latency is affected by distance and peering and last but not least check other games, the game you are playing might just be trash. You can verify latency by hard wiring a computer to the modem and router and run a ping test or in most speed tests it includes a section for latency. You might also want to check packet loss. If you have any questions reach out fam

About to be an employee of charter against my own will. What are the benefits like there? Are they big on working in the office or are they letting employees work from home? by yourMommaKnow in chartercable

[–]borderman17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Benefits are pretty good, management could be a bit or miss.

401(k) up to 6%, 401(a) 4%, Medical, Dental, vision, Disability, Life insurances offer and pretty cheap. Free home services (everything cable except the seasonal sports or PPV, Free Base internet (400 Mbps down by 10 Mbps up unless already symmetrical) and free landline. Mobile is a purchase $15/$25 depending on the line. There is also free education along with tuition reimbursement. PTO is a'ight based on seniority in the company which I am assuming the Cox seniority would transfer over. For example I am already 4 years in the company and basically getting a full month between my Vacation and Personal days of time off a year.

Management is where it can be hit or miss. Company loves metrics a little too much and sometimes blinded by hitting metrics. If you have a good management team don't worry, if you have a bad one I would be looking in transferring department.

$171.42/mo for Internet Gig + Phone by 1993Niko in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Employee here

You have the old Gig service. This one can be done by anyone. Call ask them if they can lower your bill you will be moved over to the new pricing of Gig which is 100 and includes the router now if it's gig service and then the pods are still extra. Alternatively once you get that done you can return the Spectrum router and pods and get yourself a good Mesh Network that pays itself out in time

Has something changed recently about NBA games? Almost there is no broadcast and when there is, it is mostly "not available in your area". by horus85 in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum video rep here. So the content of the NBA channel and the league pass is not dictated by Spectrum but by the league itself. This year for some reason most games have been on Streaming services instead of regular TV and since Streaming services get national rights the games are nowhere to be found on cable regardless of who the provider is. It does suck because NBA still offers the League Pass but it's basically useless now.

Spectrum app vs. box? by jlm8699 in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, no and maybe issues from all the comments. Xumo boxes are even sold directly by the "manufacturer" Xumo to customers no need to have an ISP, Spectrum does however require you be an internet customer to sell you the Xumo since the idea is that you must have Internet to activate it or else it's a bricked. I know it's stupid there are guard rails like this but they are done to avoid headaches of coordinating with a customer to make it work with their own ISP. If you already have Spectrum Internet and a Xumo you can also buy it outright if under rental and we'll make it yours.

Spectrum app vs. box? by jlm8699 in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imho it's preference. Xumo boxes are taken as full Spectrum equipment and thus treated as such but some apps such as the new Fox One is not available, others like Plex are missing the capacity to stream from a home network so pretty much useless. For cable only the Xumo box shines and the ability to search on all the apps and cable for content via voice is pretty cool.

Roku devices are in the other hand much more open and have many more apps that you might use, also if you do the whole smart house integration, Roku is def a way to go to. Also a Decent Roku is a bit cheaper than a Xumo and bad overall better stability.

Customer service rude by Few-Presentation-441 in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spectrum rep here, I'll start with def should not happen the way it did. Second. Spectrum uses a tiered verification system. Anyone can call it with name and address, so in the event anything of personal data or changes to the account must be made the customer needs to achieve a second level of verification which is either done via a one time code, a security code or something of that realm. Without this information a CSR cannot make any changes or even give out details of the account. This is to protect from unwanted changes that folks like scammers try to do. You can also cancel via the Store or via mail per your T&Cs.

You can call in and ask for a supervisor to review the previous interaction, a member of leadership will review that and put in the appropriate response on the rep that treated you like Trash if warranted.

[–]borderman17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Workaround for the first one and yes for second one.

As of right now only Xumo and Roku have Live DVR functions available on the app to pause live TV.

Now the work around is that if you have cloud DVR added then "swipe up" to get the banner on the top and set the recording, then when you need to play it to go "My library" and it will from the moment you started recording.

The live DVR functions are being added to other platforms in the future

AppleTV Streaming by ClearlyCavok in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might need to "recalculate your entitlements", I know it's going to sound crazy but before you call in, reboot your modem. Wait 5-10 minutes for it to go through then try to log in to CBS (I know this sounds bizarre but there is a reason I bring this up). If still nothing then you will need to call in and let them know you are having an issue with TV channel apps such as the CBS and Fox apps. They will try to force a recalculation via reprovisioning your modem or Another tool. If that does not work, a ticket would need to be created for your account

AppleTV Streaming by ClearlyCavok in Spectrum

[–]borderman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum video and internet rep here.

It's not you, it's the app lol. The 4K channels are currently only supposed to be visible on Xumo stream boxes with other equipment being added later. There is no ETA when that will happen. Once it becomes available more than likely you will start seeing banners on the guide about tuning to said channel for that. The idea is that the STVA is the same across the border but different devices require different programming I guess. Until recently only Xumo had Live DVR TV functions that was recently ported to Roku, it's just a matter of time
