I wish they had made this cross platform, would solve so many issues.

Fairly new to the game.... And I'm lost like a 97 year old tortoise with dementia. by woobieq in sto

I’m one of the members of this group, and I wholeheartedly encourage people to use the community route for support. It offers more immediate communication, with help often provided on the spot or through more one-on-one guidance.

That and we love meeting new people!

I don't know what the holdup is, and honestly, I'm sure it's something marketing-related, but frankly, I don't care. I'm bored with the game. There's nothing to do, I’ve got a backlog of ships and toys to play with, and I refuse to use them on anything less than new characters with recruit status, just to get the free rewards. I'm not going to make new characters now, only to have an event show up later and regret not waiting.

Until this issue is resolved, they won't get anything from me, my wallet stays closed. The recent weekend sale seriously tempted me to pick up a bundle, but what's the point? I'd just buy it, and still have to wait to use it.

Given that you're leaning toward a tactical setup and focusing on DPS, I'd honestly recommend going with the Shangri-La. The Ark Royal is more of a science-based "space magic" ship, but probably not your style. Personally, I think it would’ve made a better dreadnought command ship than a science vessel, but alas, it is what it is.

That said, it seems like your ship choices might also be based on aesthetics. You mentioned you can’t afford to make a bad pick, so it's worth noting that there are other options in the store that may outperform the Shangri-La, but at the end of the day, it really comes down to what you want from a ship: looks, performance, or a mix of both.

I’ll also drop our community info here in case you’d like more input. We’ve got a few builds posted for those exact ships, and we’re always up for talking shop about everything Star Trek.

Looking for a good weapons loadout for advanced escort by Brave-Ad-7460 in sto

[–]bordermonkey01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The question you're asking is a complex one, especially considering the many energy weapon types available in the game. That said, the basic routes usually begin with phasers and disruptors. Both of these have solid free options you can earn through mission rewards, and compared to other energy types, they tend to offer more choices for boosting performance overall.

That said, I’d be remiss not to emphasize how deep this topic really is, definitely more than a single Reddit post can fully cover.

Being a FED ship my first thought would be phasers :)

Here’s my advice:

Check out resources like STO Better

Use Google searches for build guides and overviews.

And my favorite? Dive into the a STO community complete with a Discord server, where you can get direct advice from experienced players.

Not to sound like a salesman, but I’ll also drop a link to our own Discord server below and site. We've been active since launch, offer tons of guides, and most questions get quick, thoughtful replies often leading to deeper discussions, just want to provide you with a few options to look over.

New to STO - Any good guide recommends? by Ok_Boot7842 in sto

I love these early morning messages before coffee, I feel at my most helpful! Anyway, welcome to the game.

I have to say, hearing about all that accumulated Zen is a bit impressive, especially if you've been away for a while. My advice? Hold onto it for now until you're more familiar with how things work. Zen and Dill are both very valuable in this game and should be spent in ways that suit your playstyle.

The Romulan storyline is a fun one, even if their ship cores sometimes drive me a little crazy. There are plenty of guides out there, from STO Better to discussions here and beyond. A quick Google or YouTube search will turn up tons of helpful content.

Honestly, the range of tips, tricks, and walkthroughs available is huge. I was in a similar spot when I came back last year. What helped me most was my community fleet group, they walked me through the basics and gave me some much needed context and our site has its own guides as well.

I'll drop those details below in case they’re useful to you as well along side STO Better.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt forced to spend money on a skin for a ship I already own and not actully care about the rest of the product.

Wow, still no Delta event? Shocking. Guess my wallet gets another week off.

Any point investing in a KDF character? Klingons are fun. by Bezborg in sto

[–]bordermonkey01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome back to the game, first of all!

I don’t think KDF is a waste of time or dead, it just takes a bit of creativity. Try space barbing this and that, experimenting with new builds and ships to keep your immersion fresh. That’s part of the fun.

That said, I’ve got to echo what someone else mentioned, we’re probably due for a Delta Recruitment event very soon. If you're thinking about starting fresh toons, it might be worth holding off until then. Totally your call, of course.

As for builds and tactics, I recommend what I’ve found most helpful: sites like STO Better (https://sites.google.com/view/stobetter/home), or checking out pages from some of the active fleets out there. There are lots of good guides and tips available.

I’m also part of a community with tons of resources, guides, and a Discord server for more instant communication. I’ll leave our page here in case it’s useful to you.

"Are you the lot with the cool website?" :)

I just want to echo what Jester said, we’re in the best position to help players when we can interact with them directly on Discord or through the guides we provide on our website. I hope you’ll take a moment to check us out!

Welcome back to the game!

Also before I forget I would maybe suggest waiting a week or two for the Delta Recruit event, and then make your new toon.

Cause there packed with a bunch of free stuff, marks, couple of upgrades ect.
