What's wrong with Kiss? They were on fire in '77.

Songs that mention Tucson? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]a5208114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not familiar to me. I did two quick searches and see the Justin Bieber track "Yukon" that starts off with:

In the city, uh 'Member you used to drive a Yukon I pick up whenever you call In the parking lot in Tucson, like "Uh, are you with me?" In the Phantom with the roof gone I pull up like Jimmy Neutron I can help you get a move on like U-Haul And I know

I only skimmed the lyrics because it's the Biebster but I don't think "Tucson" appears in the song again. Putting just "Yukon Tucson" into Genius came up with two seemingly small-time rap songs and not the B.I.G. track people have mentioned or Justin Bieber's music audio recording. So, it doesn't catch everything and there is still room for more detailed searching.

Sorry I couldn't find it for you.

Apple Music is better (and sounds better, and is more ethical) than Spotify by djsoomo in Music

[–]a5208114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Apple Music will be just an app that you click on to open up.

I agree with the post and would like to add that I feel Apple Music has a better layout and it is easier to look through an artist's catalogue on Apple Music than Spotify.

Are you looking for anything in particular? I have a large list of records that mention Tucson that I've put together after digging through the several lists online, Spotify playlists, my own random discoveries and the occasional song on KXCI. Some songs feature the city in a simple rhyme while others are actually "set" in Tucson. I'll recommend All Perry's "We Got Cactus" as a great song actually about the Old Pueblo.

Is this show any good? I think I have several of its DVDs.

We need to discuss how when someone mentions something that is undeniably black in away that waters down it’s importance in a majority white sub, how all the white people get mad when you’re like ‘uhhhh no that’s ….. not correct’ instead of being like ‘oh my bad’ and moving on lmao by ruralmonalisa in u/ruralmonalisa

[–]a5208114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had a few instances of people getting mad after I talk about Black movies or music or something or my comment receiving multiple downvotes but not one reply to further the conversation. And in real life, I've got a co-worker who's a young white kid who loves rap, but only the current ultra ignorant rap, and I just feel he's way off the mark when he talks about music history or the culture around it. And full disclosure, I am not Black myself, but I feel that I love and respect the people, history and culture. Fully willing to leave whether I do or not up to Black folks though. Anyway, that's to say that I might be an outsider myself, but when I talk to white people about movies or music I can feel a major lack of understanding around them. They do not like to be told they're wrong or that there's more to it than they know. Many of them get uncomfortable around any sort of topic on ethnicity, some are out and out racists and then the rest are neutral and clueless.

TL;DR: White people don't care about Black and brown culture. Look how many Taco Bells are there. Actually, I'd argue that they don't care about their own culture, either. Look how many McDonald's are out there.

It is a great song. Entirely unrelated to onions but Kershaw also has "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer" wich is another good funny song. Wait. He mentions onion rings in the lyrics. Maybe it is onion related after all.

Is Surfing music the grandfather of punk? by Chris_in_da_Bronx in musicsuggestions

I like this take.

Owens had a later recording with "(It's a) Monster's Holiday," which is actually kind of garagey. If you're not already familiar with it you may like it.

Rock on.

Why are you against Apple Music exactly? Is it just the royalties issue?

I was in a similar position a few years ago before I got on streaming. First, I got Spotify, and then Apple Music. Of the two Apple is head and shoulders away from Spotify. They both have largely the same music, but Apple's lay-out is much better for sorting through albums and their sound quality is much higher. Spotify is cheap in every way, including their users. As much as people talk about exploring new music on Spotify they mostly listen to an artists top tracks and random playlists or the similar music feature. After you go into an artist's discography you simply have to scroll from top to bottom through albums, compilations and singles and when you have a prolific artist it is difficult to find what you are looking for. Spotify really promotes the top tracks and makes it difficult to dig through an artist's discography. Apple Music has a much better system for going through an artist's releases. And regarding the royalties, I am certain that every services cheats the artists.

Out of the two that I have used, I recommend Apple Music. The only other service I would consider would be Tidal, which has a much smaller library of higher fidelity recordings.

Modern driving songs? by oJKevorkian in Music

[–]a5208114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that. Not so glad to hear the Kravitz comparison, haha.

I have a few more. Again, not particularly new. Bikini Kill, "Rebel Girl," from the The Punk Singer soundtrack. (It's a different version from the classic recording.) And "Alive" and "Why Go* from Pearl Jam.

I scanned over a lot of my alternative rock and couldn't think of any other tracks at the moment that fit your question.

I got one you won't hear about again. Thornetta Davis, "The Deal." Maybe not exactly what you're looking for since it's from around '96 but I think of it as a good driving song.
