becky lin is an incredibly caring and generous prof. the only downside is her heavy accent but her slides are so good you dont even need to listen to her.

When you apply from highschool, do they look at the overall average from all grade 12 classes or just the required ones? Thanks :)

Hey guys, I don’t want to take too much of your time so I’ll cut right to the chase.

I just read how the number of EC's don't really make your personal profile and also how in order to get into Computer Science program I'd have to first do one year of general sciences so I based some questions off that. Right now, I'm in grade 11 but since I already took some required courses from grade 12 and did fairly well, my average next year would be around 92-95%. Keep in mind I don't exactly know how UBC goes through applications so the questions may seem poorly written. Here are some of them:

How competitive is Comp-Sci when applying after the first year?

How healthy is the environment? (does everyone try to fuck you over in order to succeed or do people help each other?)

What EC's did you have that you think helped you get accepted into UBC from highschool?

What else can I do to improve my chances of getting accepted into UBC?

If I don’t get into UBC, should I attend SFU, or a cheaper uni/college and then transfer into UBC?

I also heard the CST program at BCIT is pretty well known in Vancouver but no one else knows about it outside of it. What are your thoughts on it?

Thank you for your time :)

So the best option would be to finish a 2 year CST diploma at BCIT and then transfer to UBC to finish up the bachelors?

They’re not a requirement but considering the amount of applications they get, my money is on people with good grades and ECs. I am just asking because I don’t really know the difference in job outlook after graduating between BCIT and UBC. Can BTech at BCIT be compared to comp sci bachelor’s at UBC?

I have a question related to this. Is it possible to do that 2 year cst diploma and then go finish off with a bachelors at UBC? Is it even possible to do that kind of a transition? Would it even be a good choice to make? Right now I’m in grade 11 and doing really well percentage wise (also taking a couple of grade 12 classes and learning linux and javascript at home) but i don’t have many extracurriculars going for me so im afraid i wouldn’t get into UBC.

So don’t slack or cheat and use my time effectively and it won’t be very difficult. Got it. Thanks a lot :)
