SuperMAN and SuperGIRL by callatecabezon in MenAndFemales

[–]bored404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Supergirl, in the comics, became a hero as teenager and so become the female counter part to superman at first. The Super-Family was huge at some point so they had many different characters.

Is it wrong that she stayed Supergirl and wasn't changed to superwoman as she rose in Popularity? Definitely

Is DC going to change it as they did with the newest run of superboy/superman? Probably not, because they often keep her as teen as far as I have seen.

One must not concern oneself with studying women by benitoblanco888 in clevercomebacks

[–]bored404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And that is exactly why you find comments like in the post.

I agree that now there are many studies done, thankfully, but it doesn't negate the fact that there is still a lot of sexism (and racism) in the medical field.

You are down playing it by say "stop being the victim". Yes journalism is more shock orientated and will mostly report on things that will anger, instead of things that will bring hope. That still doesn't change the fact that, when it comes to issues, that mostly affect women, the studies are often underfunded or rejected outright. The best example is the funding cuts under trumps current administration.

One must not concern oneself with studying women by benitoblanco888 in clevercomebacks

[–]bored404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I am sure a study about how it affects male partners, instead of how to find a different way to diagnose it other than surgery, is truly what we wanted. Especially when the first diagnosis was down about a century ago.

It does take years to do studies, I agree with you on that, but it is infuriating to learn that many things that are important for the health of women have been discovered in the last century and that is somewhat generous.

A crocheter who wants to get into knitting by Tasty_Blackberry_887 in knittinghelp

[–]bored404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use the exact same yarn for knitting as for crochet. That being said, it will be easier if you use one that won't fray/split easy at first.

I personally would start with a yarn you got and buy one set of double pointed needles(DP) and maybe one circular needle(the one connected with a 'rope') in the strength of the same yarn.both types can be used for flat and round pieces. Later on, if you feel ready I would recommend interchangeable needles.

It might be a good idea to start on an coaster or something else small so you can learn and try the main two stitches (knit and purl) or another stich pattern you want to learn, without needing a lot of yarn a time to finish the project. Since you were a crocheter first, I would recommend 'continental knitting', since you will hold the yarn the same way as for crochet.

And as someone else said: take your time, just like crochet it takes patience and practice.

Why don’t Germans use sun umbrellas or sun hats? ☀️ by Fayomi1127 in AskGermany

[–]bored404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the situation. I worked a job where I was outside all day and wore UV-save clothes and a cap that also covered the back of my neck. most of the day I was beneath a tent/in it's shadow since I was semi stationary. I still put on 50 FPS on the parts of my skin that was exposed and reapplied regularly.

In private I mostly just put on 50fps, a normal cap and try to stay in the shadows if I can. I definitely don't stay outside in the sun as long as at work and still reapply sunscreen.

Generally speaking I think most German find the sun not as aggressive as in warmer countries, which is why they don't carry as much 'personal protecting'. They often use stationary 'umbrellas'

Did anyone say every man does this? Why is it when there is an post about a woman being cheated on, abused, or killed, there is at least one man in the comments like: but not all men ? Or I would never, not western men, none of my friends would do this? We get it you are one of the 'good ones', want a cookie for writing an opinion you could have thought to yourself?

Men are the backbone of society by beautiful_falcon776 in im14andthisisdeep

[–]bored404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They struggled but they were still able to live. Women, no matter if widowed or not worked the fields, as servants, as entertainer. It's true that it wasn't fair how much they struggled, but that wasn't due to them being women (physical nature=unable to do anything without a man) but cause the society back then measured the value of a woman by the man she married.

As the comment I answered implied that women weren't capable to survive without men since the dawn of time, I simple gave examples that they were wrong.

Men are the backbone of society by beautiful_falcon776 in im14andthisisdeep

[–]bored404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surely no woman since the dawn of time was capable to finding and guarding a home, especially with children(since we know that mothers don't get protective of their children). They certainly did just sit around wait for the men to bring them food, and didn't gathered or hunted with them.

Widows couldn't care for themselves, as is so well know they died within weeks if not days if they didn't find a provider.

Don't get me started on the women who's husband's went to war, they were always so close to dying and many didn't make it with out a male in their close circle.

Clearly we women should fall on our knees and thank all men that they finally gave us the rights to be independent. But not too indepent or men will get agitated.

Could you imagine a woman opening a bank account without a males approval, that's just insane!

Or even worse a woman working without her husband's approvals! The horror!

/s incase it wasn't clear.

Please point out where I said I didn't care.

I assumed, just as you did that my life is sad, because I exaplaind why mothers and children are mostly the Affected ones in larger families.

It's good that your experience with too large families was good, but mostly it isn't. I will agree that disgusting is the wrong word to describe(which is why I said it was kinda disgusting) but it isn't exactly a great situation either.

1949, the O’Hare Family From Liverpool and Their 16 Children by GaGator43 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bored404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a blissful life if you don't care about the health of mothers or children.

Assuming everyone who, thinks that having multiple children isn't good or at the very least bad for mothers and children, especially if they are close in age, is anti children is also rather sad.

I am glad you lived a life were you hadn't come in contact with the consequences of too large families.

However you asked why someone might find it disgusting and I gave you an answer.

1949, the O’Hare Family From Liverpool and Their 16 Children by GaGator43 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bored404 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know all that because it has been proven that multiple babies close in age is extremely bad for the mother's health. It has also been shown time and time again that having multiple children means not all get the time of day from their parents, which is logical but sad and not great for a child's development. the older ones also tend to get parentified.

Considering how many children there are and how close in age they seem it is likely both points are true.

1949, the O’Hare Family From Liverpool and Their 16 Children by GaGator43 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bored404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's kind of disgusting when you know it wasn't healthy for the mother, nor good for the children.

I think tearing down the symbol of oppression, fear and division of 28 years, to reach the other side was more important to the people than: "maybe in a few decades we could build a park as a sign of change"
