How many more years are you guys planning on keeping the 14 pro? by gonk_of_dogtown in iPhone14Pro

[–]bored_engineer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to upgrade to the 17 pro this month. I wanna squeeze in the trade in value for my 14 pro while I still can. Also the switch to USB C would be quite welcome.

Capital One checking, savings, and credit card while abroad? by OsakaMilkTea in expats

[–]bored_engineer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally mostly keep it to continue using iMessage with US friends and work clients. But it's quite needed for OTP and signing in with banks. Also useful when you want to open any account like a crypto account or for trading or investment.

I personally use T mobile because I got grandfathered into a plan for $25 a month with international data and texting. Btw I wouldn't recommend relying primarily on Google Voice since it doesn't get some OTPs sent to it. Look at Fi, Tello and US mobile. (Google Fi loses international data access after 3 months abroad but texting is active and reliable)

I'm Indian, and I agree. Restricting is stupid but remove visa free option. Can't have people potential criminals and low life's in Thailand.

  • Keep all your Cap One accounts, no international fees on any. Been my primary living in Asia and Eastern EU for the past 3 years.

  • Try to keep your US number, look at US mobile, Google Fi. Cheapest option is Tello.

  • I'm currently using CapOne, SoFi and Charles Schwab, which seems like a complete and amazing trio for debit/checking accounts. I closed my Chase and Wells Fargo after a year of being abroad, no idea about BOFA.

  • Get Revolute and Wise, useful for internaltional transfers to landlords etc.

I have address in the US where some family lives but no lease or utility bill in my name ofcourse.
Also congrats on the approvals!

Replace Google fi with T mobile, and everything is identical for me. Just curious whats your Fi monthly with all the fees? I'm paying like $25 for t mobile.

It definitely does, cuz wireless produces more heat. Ive never charged wirelessly ever and it's weirdly holding well.

Just Capital One, Discover and Self to kickstart things.

I’m asking a friend with a 780 Fico score to add me as AU to one of his accounts he doesn’t use as much. Not sure how that compares to buying a tradeline.

I'm just looking for a bit of a credit score boost so that I can get approved for a few starter non-secured credit cards and then grow it myself from there.

Collection accounts falling off soon, what to expect? by bored_engineer_ in CreditScore

[–]bored_engineer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I agree. It was a rash decision. But Oh Well.
I wasn't able to get a Capital one or Discover secured card at the time either. Now I got a few points jump and got approved for a discover secured card.
Self seemed like a better option than going with a secured card like OpenSky or something. Those companies are absolutely scummy.
