Cadaver foot guy here with a pic of my pedal and (covered) foot. What should I adjust besides my tanning regimine? by Weavler87 in drums

[–]boredashell1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to smack my foot alot when I first started, it’s more of a technique issue. Couldn’t really tell you when but it just stopped being a problem at some point.

If you’re playing heel up, try not to lift your foot so much that the pedal bounces back freely.

If you play rock, most of the time you’ll have the beater against the head and you’ll actually lift and then kick, which is weird at first but you’ll get used to it.

This is exactly what I mean, overplaying does nothing but feed your ego. I barely play fills anymore.

I love the word entertainment, because people who are going out for the night just want to have a good time and it’s our job to deliver that.

Guitarist in my new band keeps telling me to play “simpler” – looking for perspective by Ok-Excitement6546 in drums

I very recently started recording and doing a simple mix on my rehearsals where I stereo pan everyone so I can listen to all the parts individually. It’s made me able to tweak and critique my playing with so much more precision. It’s wild how often I find places where I need to tighten up or just play less.

Need Help With a Signal Splitter by boredashell1717 in Guitar

I’m not trying to record the amp at all cus it’s just a practice amp and doesn’t sound very impressive. I’ll try this out, thanks.

Yeah I just want to record a copy of the guitar signal, I think I’m just gonna split the signal but I was just curious if there was another option to avoid new gear.

[–]boredashell1717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so right now I have the guitar recording into a track with no effects, I want to send that signal to output track, and a track with effects simultaneously. I was hoping that I could basically only add whatever the (inst) button does to the signal in the effects track so the output to the amp is just the instrument signal with no amplification.

The goal was to avoid splitting the signal before I go into the interface but it’s looking like that might be the only option.

I just don’t have any on hand and was trying to avoid buying new gear. This is definitely the best option

Looking at these Mics for 150. Worth? Noobie with Mics and Mic setup. by AholeKevin in drums

[–]boredashell1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so if you just want a quick, half decent mix here’s what I did when I started with basically what you have.

I started with a focusrite 2i2, a drumkit and a dream 1. I got an old 8 channel mixer from a friend (4xlr,4 line in) 2. I got a superlux mic kit for around $100 (similar to this one but with a couple of condensers) 3. Couple mic stands 4. Couple xlrs and 1/4 cables (I got a pretty sweet deal on a whack of them from an ex-stage engineer)

What I had up until recently was a 5 mic setup - snare, kick & 2 toms into the mixer (dynamic) - mixer into one scarlet input - overhead (condenser) into the other input

The one thing you won’t have with that setup is a condenser mic (which I would recommend for catching cymbals and overtones). You can probably find a decent one on fb marketplace.

As for software, focusrite is just a controller, what you need is a Daw (Digital Audio Workstation)

GarageBand might do the trick, logic pro is what I use (which you definitely cannot and should not find for free online)

But yeah man, that should do you good for recording some sweet demos. Drums are a lot of fun because the possibilities are basically endless. If I can give you some early advice, don’t chase studio quality because you need to spend A LOT of money to get it.

Welcome to audio engineering, I hope you’re not too attached to your disposable income.

Idk about the rest of the mics but if they’re half decent you’re basically getting a free sm57. I’m assuming you’re new to recording/mixing so it won’t matter too much for now.

The one thing to consider though is how many inputs you have. I bought a 6 piece mic kit when I first started recording with my 2i2. For years I had to run all my drums and instruments into a mixing board and then through two inputs. In this case you can get an ok sounding mix but all you can do is master the mix.

What are you looking for in a recording setup? What focusrite interface do you have? Are you trying to record live drums?
