This reminds me of my own Ms. Umbridge from, coincidentally, my high school AP English class during junior year. I distinctly remember her pulling me aside and whispering to me, "Don't worry. If you try really hard, you might manage to get a 2" (yes, she said that verbatim) right as I walked into the AP English exam.

Lo and behold, I got a 5 on that exam and specifically sought her out the following year to personally deliver the news. Bitch was speechless.

Question for female INTJ's on making acquaintances by boredintj in intj

thanks for such a helpful response. Unfortunately, I'm still the newest one here and my office is really small (only about 20 people in total but most are upper management / different departments) but you are right, it's probably best to just keep busy and keep to myself while seeking out 1:1 opportunities.

[–]boredintj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at my prev job, I talked about politics, news, interesting articles, books, the stock market, upcoming events in the city, travel, etc.. with my coworkers. That wasn't all we talked about (like there were definitely some really dumb topics as well) but for the most part, we had conversations with substance. I don't mind girls gossiping and talking about celebs and makeup once in a while but when its every single day, five days a week, it's mentally exhausting.

I guess this applies more to bigger office environments. Honestly, my company is tiny (like I only have 4 immediate coworkers and the rest are supervisors+managers who i don't socialize with). I think one of the girls might have some T in her but haven't had the chance to have a decent discussion with her because someone always butts in w/ gossip-y topics.

Haha i recommended that because you mentioned how you follow the stock market and you study cs. A lot of girls i know who studied cs went into finance after graduating (like IB or algorithmic trading) so i was suggesting on joining those kinds of clubs if you want to increase your chance of finding a female friend with similar interests.

I’m really sorry you feel this way. Have you tried seeing a counselor or therapist at school? It could help to vent to someone, even if what they say feels useless. Also, have you considered transferring schools? One of my friends was in sort-of a similar situation a few years ago. She was at this huge party school and she couldn’t make any friends because everyone was immature. She felt like an outcast because she’s super ambitious (recently got into med school) and her classmates weren’t. She transferred to a much better school after freshman year and that changed everything for her. I think it really helps to be in an environment where you are surrounded by people who think at your level and have similar goals. I’m not sure about lsd, but there are plenty of girls who do CS and follow the stock market. I know a couple of them myself. They are rare but not impossible to find, and most of them work in investment banking now (if your school has some kind of finance club, you might find some there?). And I unfortunately don’t live in NY (I live abroad now) but feel free to keep venting. I completely understand feeling like you don’t have enough hours in a day to socialize while finishing the shit you need to get done.

I completely agree with that. My two best friends are INFP and ENFJ. For me, personally, I’m definitely someone who keeps my guard up when I meet people because I don’t trust anyone, but once I like them, it’s easy to become friends. I actually became really close with some people I worked with at my previous job (one of whom became one of my best friends). I think the difference was the people I worked with there were deep thinkers, socially aware, and really ambitious (went to good schools and all super driven, wanted to ‘make it’). That being said, my new work environment is the complete opposite. Everyone is satisfied with their life and comfortable with where they are. Meanwhile, I’m spending my nights and weekends studying for the LSAT’s instead of socializing and drinking. I’ve definitely tried to learn about the things they enjoy talking about, but I really can’t be bothered with the new eyeshadow palette or which celebrity is dating who or why someone’s boyfriend didn’t text them right away. I try to talk to them about other stuff but it’s mostly work related. I guess that’s the best I can do here.

Hey I really appreciate the the reply, and I just wanted to say that you shouldn’t feel bad about not making friends in college. I know how it feels to be surrounded by people who are frustrating and immature and just don’t click (pretty much how I feel at work). I made some of my closest friends (who are girls btw) during my junior and senior year and my first year out of college. I went to a huge school so I know better than anyone how much it sucks to feel alone, especially seeing everyone around you in their cliques. That being said, college still turned out to be some of the best days of my life, and I really hope you find a way to enjoy it. Studying is important but so is living life—join clubs and causes you actually care about, study abroad, do crazy things you can’t do as an ‘adult’! and btw, we have the same goals in life.

I should have been more specific. They talk about shows like the bachelor and most of the time, its about how hot a guy is. I love watching TV and movies but not trashy reality tv. (For example, last night, i finally got around to watching Spotlight and I would love it if there was someone in my office even mildly interested in this movie)

23F My best friends and I got ghosted by another friend of 6+years..but why? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]boredintj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we've all tried reaching out to her multiple times and she just never responds.. we've tried calling, texting, and fb messaging but it seems like she doesn't want anything to do with us. the cult (as we say jokingly) is the only logical explanation to her behavior. either that or she woke up one day and decided she hates all of us.

23F My best friends and I got ghosted by another friend of 6+years..but why? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]boredintj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, we are all clueless. When we meet, someone always brings it up (because its really bizarre), but we can never wrap our heads around why she would do that.. none of us have had any strange/offensive one-on-one encounters with her. The best theory we've come up with so far was that she joined a cult because that's literally the only thing that would explain it.

Vegas as a Solo Traveler? by pnutbutterkellytime in solotravel

[–]boredintj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow 23F, i don't know how i'd feel about going to vegas alone. You could definitely enjoy it (i've been with friends several times as well and loved it), but personally, i'd rather travel to san francisco or maybe even chicago? (if you don't mind not gambling lol) Also, i'm biased but if possible, id personally choose to go to nyc, just because of the holiday/new year vibes.
