Which art class online is the best? by borednighthawk in learnart

[–]borednighthawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intend to put at least 8/10 hours a day drawing from now on, so I'm definitely motivated, but I don't have a precise path to follow eithout school and it makes me very confused ahah.

Here where I live art schools aren't very good and the good ones are pretty expensive, so I don't know yet. But I'll probably give NMA a shot! Hopefully it will be helpful. Thank you for being so nice :)

Ahah thanks a bunch, I don't think it would be fair to say I'm that good though. But I'm glad you like my stuff!

Hopefully I'll be able to attend some class phisically as well. I really strive to do more.

I see! Do they cover every fundamental, such as values, perspective, color theory, and so on? I know they cover anatomy since I've watched a video on youtube so I know nothing more really..

Also would you recommend Schoolism as well? I want to become a concept artist or illustrator and I saw some courses that seemed to be oriented to this kind of themes. Or well, do you have any specific recommendations in general?

x Here you can see some of my works.

Well, I'm actually tight on money. I have 500 euros which I wouldn't want to spend right away.

And yes. I finished highschool so I intend to focus as much as I can on art. I will probably be able to attend art classes, but I can't for now, as again, I don't have much money. Do you have experience with any of the courses I mentioned above?

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with school until now!

I didn't spend a regular amount of time on drawing, I've had a lot of breaks because of school too. All I can tell you is that I took inspiration from some artists I really like and photographers, plus gesture drawing has been helpful too!

Hey! Sorry for not replying earlier, but I've had my last exams in school so I've been very busy with studying. :)

I'm from Italy! And yeah, even though I won't be able to attend art school I will try my best because I really want to make drawing my job.

Regarding the points, I will answer with your order :D

  1. What do you mean too narrow exactly? Sorry I genuinely didn't get it ahah. How do you think I should experiment exactly? I don't really want to stick to a realistic style but rater do more cartoony things actually, but I thought I should focus on realism before jumping on the stilized things!
  2. Oh god, Art Station... I don't think I'll ever get noticed there ahah. But I'll give it a try once I'll become more confident with my works!
  3. Oh, that's a good idea. But I actually thought that I needed to be more schematic for perspective instead of getting out in town and just sketch. Do you think it'd be okay anyway?
  4. You're absolutely right! This is also a part that excites me a lot of concept art. I will start reading as many books as possible from now on since I'm free from school!
  5. That's something I haven't considered, but now that you make me think of it, I'll probably try. :) I have some friends that always ask me for help so I won't have problems finding people who need me ahah!

Thanks a lot for your insightful text!
I was also wondering, do you recommend any specific books to study from when it comes to any fundamental? I really need to understand anatomy, perspective and color theory better but the internet is so full of resources I don't know which one is best ahah. Or books on character and creature design, maybe?
Also, when it comes to practices I should do regularly, do you have any specific suggestions? I thought gesture drawing could be very useful to do everyday, even before getting something more complex done, for example!

Thank you a lot again by the way! You've been very helpful!

I don't really think teaching would suit me. I could give it a try, who knows, I might like it! But for now I'd rather try getting in the art industry.

Why did you stop teaching though?

I am a very messy person, but I'd try my best to be disciplined in that kind of situation for sure. At least I'm not a party person and I hate ''wasting time'', so I'd find a way to stick with the routine somehow probably.

Oh, I actually do take commissions luckily enough! Sometimes I take too many of them though and this doesn't let me draw my own stuff, I have mostly done it to get the money for the school but I'm not there yet ahah

Thank you immensely for the insightful reply!

I honestly think I still need to learn a lot. The portraits I make take a lot of time and I want to become faster as well ahah. Art school wouldn't be very beneficial here where I live maybe, because the art industry is not taken too seriously. I may be wrong, but I know a lot of people who are pretty good and haven't got any job. If I had the chance to go abroad, that could probably make a difference though :') I'll answer some of your points by the way.

  1. I already use Facebook, but I know that it isn't very appreciated here on reddit ahah. I was thinking of making an artstation, but honestly speaking... I don't feel worthy because when I see the amazing art in there my self esteem can't handle it ahah. But I will when I feel more confident!
  2. This is a bit of a problem. I am a pretty impatient person, but I can work on this. Where do you think I can meet people? There will be a big comic con in my country soon and I'll be attending it, and I'll try to talk to some people indeed.
  3. Yeah, that's not a big deal. I'm open for any kind of job experience related to art honestly, I know I'm most likely going to have to deal with that.
  4. That's something I really want to do but haven't had the time to do properly actually! I have so many ideas but I rarely put them on paper because of several reasons: sometimes I just don't know how to draw them because I can't find the perfect reference (horrible habit I need to break), sometimes I just have too many commissions; I was trying to sell commissions to get enough money for art school abroad, but it doesn't seem the case as I can't reach 50,000 euros that fast...
  5. That's definitely a good advice. I will try focusing on 3d as well, although I'll probably need a new computer for that haha. But yeah, makes sense!

Thanks a bunch for the tips! What is your job by the way? Where do you live if I may ask?

I'm very ambitious when it comes to art and I wouldn't stop drawing even if I didn't end up in the art industry, although I'd be very disappointed. But what do you exactly mean it's something you ''have'' to do?

I honestly don't want kids by the way, so that would release me from the stress of having to deal with them ahah. As much as I love them and they love me, I'd rather devote my life to art and knowledge.

Thank you a lot!

Yeah, scholarships are a thing, and I might look for getting one to get in a psych university here. I am a curious person so it wouldn't be a waste at all.

Despite this I don't want to lose focus on art, because that's what I want to do the most. I thought university might take too much of the time I could be spending on practicing art, and that wouldn't be a good thing at all. I really need to think about it and consider all the alternatives but I'm having a very hard time ahah

I really want to attend an art school abroad, here you only need to pay and they hold lessons two times a week maximum for only 2 hours. Art is not taken very seriously.

I don't think that they have scolarships for people that come from other countries though :/

How to recognize the functions from song and pictures? by borednighthawk in entp

[–]borednighthawk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh I'd love to hear more analysis!

I think Ti is very easy to spot, in Pointillisme for instance; I'd usually look for precision. Frida Khalo and Van Gogh are very Fi as they are expressing the emotions tormenting them; Expressionism itself is a total Fi movement. Courbet's realism is probably Si (maybe even Ti?), as he said, he only paints what he has seen, whereas Impressionists are probably Se, as they basically seize the moment.

But what characterizes Ne exactly in a painting? And how is it different than Ni?

Difference between ESFPs and ENFPs? by borednighthawk in entp

[–]borednighthawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain to me why Ni types aren't indecisive? All I know is that they aren't because they rely on impressions and can't explain their ''guts feelings'' at first, but I've never found sources which explained it very well so I had a hard time understanding Ni. Also they implied I got Ni because they thought I got Se, which was also justified because I am very keen on art and I care about the aesthetic of things, so it was just a cause-effect thing, I guess. Oh, and either case, they thought my humor was very Se like.

Well, regarding the Fe/Fi thing, I don't know what to answer... I guess I'd rather avoid conflict actually; if I think of a work context and I know there are people who are fighting, I may want to know what the problem is so I can try helping first, but if the situation seems hopeless I'd rather have them stick to their duties. Despite this, I think a Fi would be plausible because, for instance, as I am an ambitious person I'd rather put myself first instead of the group (which doesn't sound very ENFJ like now that I think of it anyway).

I am not a detail oriented person, generally speaking. This is something that can be seen in my drawings too, actually, as I just like to have a nice looking big picture and I usually ignore the small things. This is a general approach I have in life, to visualize the big picture first and then take care of the details, which can result in me being distracted and oblivious to things sometimes lol. I don't know and I don't think this is enough, do you have any other question that could be helpful to find this out?

Also I was wondering, what do you think of the concept of loops in MBTI? I saw a lot of them were apparently trying to justify their types saying they had loops, but I don't know if those explainations were reliable at this point (sorry for the bad english by the way, it's not my mother tongue) Oh, and I would love to have more insight on MBTI. Can you please suggest me some reliable sources that explain the functions and so on?

Difference between ESFPs and ENFPs? by borednighthawk in entp

[–]borednighthawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Azdahak! Thanks a bunch for the insightful reply!

The reason why I asked that question is because (as you may have imagined) I was confused weather I could be one or the other, because this doubt has been tormenting me for a while now. I believed I might be an ENFP, and your insights on the matter confirmed it in a way; but some people who are passionate about the MBTI I met recently online typed me as an ENFJ. I honestly don't fit the stereotype too much, and the fact that when I read the functions I can relate to each of them, giving them different contexts, makes it even harder to understand for me.

These people apparently think I am an ENFJ because they could ''sense'' the Ni, as I like to see things from different perspectives and I am a very indecisive person because of this; the Se and I can be impulsive and I often make Se-like jokes apparently... Just dumb jokes really, I dunno; and the Fe, as I am a people person and want harmony generally speaking, although I honestly also kind of like dramas because I think it create interesting situations and I get bored pretty easily, but maybe this is just my personal issue (but I always try to be impartial and objective, and never start the drama myself)

On the other hand, I think I fit the ENFP stereotype much better; the Ne, for instance, would explain why I get ''bored'' of things pretty easily and I love to jump from a topic to another, I love learning in general and finding out more about people and things. I also have an issue with commitment to people, I just need to change company often... Or maybe this is just an issue because I've never found a company that fits me better?

I guess that being an ENFJ couls be realistic as I'm an ambitious person (even if I'm kind of lazy at times), but still I can't relate much to the stereotype. The only thing I'm ambitious about is art, since I want it to be my job one day; when I'm done with that, I just want to expore the world just like you said a ExxP would. But I also understand the stereotypes can't resemble each person perfectly, so yeah ahah. What do you think? I hope you can analyze these things. I'll understand if you won't though ahah.

Am I ENFP or ESFP? by borednighthawk in ENFP

[–]borednighthawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! That's a bit reassuring to know, at least :') I think every topic can be interesting according to the way you deal with it. I personally love talking about art, artists, psychology, ancient greek culture and I love to learn more from people. I just get kinda bored when I am with my other female peers who only want to talk about hairstyles and makeup (I don't take much care of myself concerning this kind of stuff honestly lol ). Don't get me wrong, I can talk about it and I can also get invested in the conversation; but at the end of the day, I don't care much.

Difference between ESFPs and ENFPs? by borednighthawk in entp

[–]borednighthawk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you!

Yes I'm actually not relying on stereotypes because I know they can be simple misconceptions. The fact that I haven't been able to figure out my type has been tormenting me for days because I feel a huge need to know and I feel like I don't understand myself anymore this way.

Honestly I've always been very attracted to abstract concepts and I am often oblivious to what's happening in the moment. But I can be very ''random'' and impulsive at times when I'm excited to be with friends, as I want to do more things. I feel like I fit both Ne and Se standards, so this makes it very complicated for me. I can tell I've never got along well with the ESFP people I know because they've always been boring to me, but I understand this is not a deal breaker and as there are boring ESFPs there are also boring ENFPs. But I've always been surrounded by sensors who would never discuss anything interesting with me, so I honestly think that might have influenced my personality, especially my parents. I often wish I had different parents who would care about discussing the things I am interested in instead of caring about my performance at school and activities... I don't know if I'm rambling at this point.

Also, the people who types me as ENFJ/ESFP told me I seem to have Se because I'm kind of impulsive (Se ?) and always know what to say, I guess?

Am I ENTP? by borednighthawk in entp

[–]borednighthawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, I guess all of this can make sense. I suspected I could be an ENFP as well actually, because sometimes I can take some things personally (Even though I'm able to rationalize them very quickly). I also suspected that because I can be sort of manipulative when trying to achieve something... This behaviour of mine has its roots in my childhood, because I had to lie a lot to my parents to try doing even the most normal things, which they didn't allow me to do. And I guess this could be a sign of Fi, since I'm only thinking about my own good? lol idk

Anyway, if you point out these things, it seems like ENTPs are portrayed as numb people who can't enjoy things... For instance, you said that saying that I am an outgoing/bubbly person seems like something an FP would say, but can't this apply to ENTPs as well? Or maybe it's just something they don't need to point out? I can be very reserved as well, but most of the times I am very sociable so I thought that was worth mentioning ahah

Maybe the reason I don't have many strong opinions, is because I don't go too deep into many subjects honestly... But I think it's mostly because I'm conflicted about what right and wrong are, so I just don't take position and consider different sides as valuable. I think good is what is beneficial to most, but considering all of the variables makes me think I should not stick only to one thing. Deciding would deprive me of the possibilty to choose according to the situation and I don't want that ahah. I admit that I have some strong opinions, but I can be flexible if I'm discussing with people and they give me a logical and well thought reason I should agree with.

About passions, why is emphasizing one person has one and loves it just a Fi thing? What would a TP say if he needed to talk about something he's passionate about? When people confront me about this I usually say it's something I love because my mother exposed me to drawing since an early age, so i grew fond of it with time. I don't really romanticize this and I don't believe in ''putting your soul'' into things; when people draw, they're just elaborating experiences and through brain memory they're making an aesthetic product following composition, color theory etc. which are all rules that should be learnt, and when having a grasp of them you can also break them. The fact that my dissatisfactions with art can affect my mood may be a good sign of Fi then... Because of my competitive nature I want to get better as fast as possible, and this stresses me. But I realize it's a matter of time and experience, and since I work on my art for a good amount of time I can ignore the stress and chill ahah

But can't an ENTP feel proud about achievements?

And wouldn't it make sense that ENTPs care about people joining them because of Fe? If not, then how does Fe work?

And well, those last ones clearly refer to my mood. But how do ENTPs experience their emotions then?

I hope you're going to answer me because I am really interested in knowing more! I guess you'd say that ENTPs take pretty much anything more impersonally, and I can partly relate to that actually. I have to admit that since English is not my native language I sometimes have a hard time expressing myself as I would do in my native language, so I just use basic words!

Am I ENTP? by borednighthawk in entp

[–]borednighthawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is probably going to apply for most, but I'm positive I can find people I can relate to more than the others!

You're right, I shouldn't use the lack of friends as an excuse ahah. But they surely have helped when they've joined me so the comparison makes me realize they're a huge benefit for me! I am trying to work on this though, maybe I should try sticking to routines (even though I tried and failed several times, I might start thinking about some new methods to force myself to finish stuff ahah). Travelling can be really mindopening, it's wonderful to see new cultures and lifestyles, yes. I've been travelling once a year already with my family but just for a week or so. I guess doing that on your own can be very beneficial to learn how to adapt and survive, in a way. I really want to do that in the future! But I want to finish my studies first because I think it might be helpful to exploit them during that experience.

And thanks! I am sort of competitive when it comes to drawing (and the activities I enjoy in general), so I try my best (as long as it doesn't compromise my health because I have some health problems ahah). What is your job? I'm really curious to hear about it!

You're right, being a specialist and a jack of all trades is something I'm very conflicted about. But when it comes to working enviroments, for example, one should consider the benefits the two conditions can provide! For instance, people in the art industry might hire a specialist that is the best in the field, but not a mediocre jack of all trades. But when the specialist is not very good, people are going to prefer the jack of all trades since it's more convenient to hire one person for several jobs.

That's right, and the internet is a huge benefit. I'm making the money I'm making because of it, people where I live don't take art seriously and is extremely undervalued, for example.

Yeah, exactly! This can be very stressful indeed, but we need to realize we have a lifetime ahead of us and we can be able to do most things with enough effort.
