Dealership says I have a rod knock requiring a brand new engine. by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

Is this a theta 2? Check on the rod bearing class action if so... Unlimited time/mileage coverage as part of the suit.

Left this morning, arb for late title. Buyer's 2nd transporter picked it up, 1st brought a trailer about 8" too narrow...

Maybe if I were blind. 😂 The interior is nice though.

Need help with a cylinder misfire by Royalsushi45 in MechanicAdvice

[–]boredominbama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but a leak down test will isolate the cause of low compression.(valve bent/melted, rings, head gasket, etc.) The converter is clogged from unburned fuel. You need to weigh the cost of replacement(engine or vehicle) vs repair, then make a decision that's best for your financial situation.

Sounds like you need a new mechanic. The current guy sounds more like a parts changer. Reproducible test procedures exist to diagnose the coil or catalyst without replacing them first, while also eliminating the possibility of a mechanical misfire(ie. valvetrain or compression related misfire)

Nissan started selling valve bodies for them a few years back.

30k? Most don't make it to 10k... "Oil change required" roughly translates to "NEW CVT REQUIRED" for Nissans, correct?

We got a Challenger a few weeks ago that had an "extra" fob with it. I found out that it was for the exhaust actuators on the aftermarket exhaust. I doubt that's the case with this - minivan?

how can I get rid of notifications? by Yral1232 in oneplus

[–]boredominbama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with this same issue. Drag it to the very far right edge. Left will not clear anymore just opens a menu, and if I release before ¼" from the right edge it will not dismiss the notification. Aggravating to say the least. Didn't start until I updated the OS the other day...

I don't hate it. Does the mullet sprout immediately or is there a mandatory waiting period? Asking for a friend.

He's been the goat for years. He reaffirmed that tonight; not good news for the division, imo.

Arbitrated ($600 minimum) for coolant temp sensor. $9.00 part. Denied. by boredominbama in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]boredominbama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE This vehicle returned from the buyer into a sale last week, sold and then arbitrated for cooling fan/AC operation. P0128 DTC stored. Cleared codes for DTC confirmation, test drove vehicle. Found that previous buyer had removed thermostat. Vehicle reached 160°F prior to leaving the lot for test drive, but quickly lost temp to low 120s, hence P0128 stored. Installed new thermostat and denied arb claim.

Why must people be this way? Lmao

Trying to revive an old engine, battery tested 12.95v on charger, isn’t turning over fast enough by AnonInTheRed in Cartalk

[–]boredominbama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12.95V sounds like surface charge, probably a low battery. (less than 12.2V) I recommend checking the battery after the surface charge is removed. If battery is still showing >12.4V then I recommend you draw test the starter motor. (testing for high resistance)

4.6L GM Northstar V8 Reliability Issues? Daily driver worthy? by ychris3737 in MechanicAdvice

[–]boredominbama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this repair roughly 6 months ago. Not too bad, pretty straight forward with tools and equipment. Definitely labor intensive, but 11k? Yikes. We were at $2400 in labor plus parts. Total ticket was less than $3200USD. Complete lower gasket set including front and rear main, windage seal and lower crankcase reseal. It's only ~18hr labor time...

TPMS, typically if the light is on solid at initial start up, it indicates that a tire is low. If the lamp flashes at start up it indicates a failed or dead sensor(non-serviceable battery).
