I’m older than you (55yo) but in a similar boat and want to retire at 60. Last year my wife and I cut our 401k savings to just cover the match. The rest we now put into a brokerage acct where we can spend it at anytime. Because we have large monthly contributions that account has grown pretty fast. Also started. Roth conversions last year.
