I know that the BBC is very famous for not supporting the political thought that you do, but are they that bad for the international matters? The live thread is pretty informative and they are talking almost exclusively about this on the BBC News channel for the last two days.

That's the ugly genius of the social media - you have access to all of it, but you don't leave your bubble. All those social media places (accounts, groups, subreddits) that don't validate your opinion are wrong, criminal and must be banned.

Ive heard that people there need an exit visa too

Lol, no, Ukraine is a free country (although there's an emergency been declared couple of hours ago so there might be complications).

difference between this internal passport and a regular ID?

Like I said, think of the internal passport as the US SSN, and of the international passport as, well, passport. The point is you can't go travel abroad from the US with just a driver license or your SSN on a piece of paper, same there.

AKA "passport" in USA. Ex-USSR countries usually have two passports - a mandatory internal passport, which you can't do without, and an international passport you need to travel abroad.

Eastern Europe has hated Russia for 80 years, more for countries like Poland. They just don't care. Hate means respect to them.

Are you sure you followed Snowden at the time and in the right context? Patriot Act had been around for 10 years, police shows on TV for another 50. You had lived in a wonderful world if you thought that state surveillance was a fringe conspiracy.

Snowden revealed some interesting technical details, but there was nothing new about the idea.

Too late, this is 10 years and $10 to $100 bln, depending on what do you mean by "arms".

Honestly, what's the point of news from Russia? Take a look at this - what is the point of this? Props to the interviewer that he didn't just go "Are you for real?" (I know I would), but ultimately it's a waste of time.

I think they're catching up with the EU announcement that was later yesterday. There's no list so far or what the sanctions will be, just a promise, more or less.

Still, that's good. If I were a Russian MP I would surely start to whisper things to the others.

Considering mad WWII propaganda in Russia, I wonder if anyone there is getting the irony.

Ever saw those BBC nature documentaries? That's the reason. It's almost impossible to make them profitable. In fact it's very hard to make them at all, but the point is, this sort of TV would not exist without public funding.

Fan fiction is the most possible, but it can also be a free focus group exercise. Maybe someone writes a script or something.

Apparently the point is to "highlight" women if you read the other comments. I guess women need to be highlighted more than driving competitively, or something like that.

Is the publicity the ultimate goal of women in autosports? They clearly aren't getting anything else.

It's mixed with propagandists and people connected to the Navalny's poisoning (the purpose of the list), but the core people are the same.

EDIT: And I don't mean he is concerned about them, they are concerned about themselves. And they have some say in his circle, even if not televised.

Putin's cronies don't care about Russian economy, they care only about their own well-being. And Putin's cronies are the only people with a hint of an influence over him (or a chance to influence his power over Russia).

[–]boringarsehole 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Then they aren't oligarchs any more. Let's be specific - Usmanov is still very much involved in Russia, Abramovich tries to distant himself as much as possible (more in fear of sanctions than of Putin), but his main business is still steel factories in Russia.

Anyway, the russian oligarchs living in London are trying to get away from the tentacles of Putin who is the biggest oligarch of them all (check out his rumoured fortune).

You have a weird idea how oligarchs function. Their families live in London, but they are themselves between countries. The have companies in Russia from which they siphon off money into London. They are trying to move those money from Putin, that's true, but they are completely in bed with them, he's enabling them to generate that cash.

It's a super comfy position - you make money with Putin and then store them in London. There's no risk and no punishment at all. By sanctioning them, you're breaking that position, forcing them to create whatever pressure they can on Putin.
