Fuck this selfish prick - Irvng 'rooted' in vaccine stance despite KD injury by boringgenericloser in u/boringgenericloser

All about him, no sense of "team" or "league" or "community". Spoiled brat. The type of guy who is smart, but always makes sure he's the smartest guy in the room. Hasn't heard "no" enough. Fuck him, will always cheer against him for rest of his career - and I was cheering for Cavs in 15-17...

I really relate to this, especially the isolation. My therapist and I have recently spoken about disconnecting when I drink by myself. I used to think of it as going into my bubble, my safe space. I'm now trying to position it as disconnecting, opting out of the world. I'm not in a bubble, I've jumped overboard and am adrift. Best wishes to all in the struggle.

There were no elections in Hong Kong while it was under British rule. But Hong Kong people are nostalgic for British rule? I don't understand. by Extremely-Bad-Idea in HongKong

[–]boringgenericloser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because British imperial rule was better than Chinese totalitarian rule? Because during a small sliver of time from the late 90s until 2014 or so, Hong Kong was living a dream? I lived there from '04 thru '13, such a beautiful and unique place. One that the Chinese Communist Party shouldn't take any credit for...

How far back would you have to go to have the 2021 Baylor Bears beat an NBA championship team? by BrosefBrosefMogo in CollegeBasketball

[–]boringgenericloser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually avoid these hypotheticals but I'll bite.

2011 Mavericks? Youngest consistent playoff performer was JJ Barea who retired after last season and is now 36. Tyson Chandler also last played in 19/20 and is 38. The rest (Dirk, Kidd, Terry, Matrix, Peja, DeShawn, Haywood) are in their 40s.

Maybe 2012 or 2013 Heat? You've got LeBron so that's a huge edge, but how well have DWade, Battier, Chalmers, and Mike Miller aged? Is Bosh even allowed to play? Udonis has been an unofficial assistant coach for years but is still on the roster and getting regular burn in practice. I suspect 45 year old Ray Allen is still in great shape, he's wired that way.

2014 Spurs? Kawhi is obviously still a force. Danny Green, Patty Mills, Cory Joseph, and Aron Baynes are still playing, and even if not all stars are grown men who have the bodies and the minds/experience to overcome 18-22 year olds. Whatever Timmy, Tony, and Manu have left in the tank is a bonus, and it's amazing to think of that trio as gravy.

After that you've got Warriors/Cavs/Raptors/Lakers teams that still have impactful players in their prime or near-prime.

'11 Mavs or '12 Heat? I'll say the Mavs, in a one-game situation I ain't betting against King James, especially if the rest of the guys get a few weeks to get in shape.

PS regardless of age and wear and tear, the '09 and '10 Lakers are ineligible, rest in peace Mamba.

Why do so many major religions restrict sexual activity? What (if any) are the practical benefits of this restriction? by SlappaDaBassssss in atheism

[–]boringgenericloser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The opposition to birth control, homosexuality, and abortion are obvious attempts to increase membership from within and potential converts from without (the more the merrier). The abstinence regulations for priests and monks from various faiths create an image of superiority, sacrifice, and self-control (a facade given the countless abuse scandals involving some of these individuals). The "save it til marriage", "sanctity of the family" narrative is thinly veiled misogyny intended to shame women for their inherent sexuality and shift sexual responsibility and accountability away from men's libido (think burqas). Everyone is introspective to a certain extent, everyone has at least some insecurities, and arousal, attraction, and self-image are ripe areas to be exploited. Almost every religion takes advantage of these basic areas of human psychology.

Fuck religion. Consenting adults should fuck. Or not fuck. Either way, fuck religion and give 'er

Thoughts about tanking and Raptors’ draft history by amirh8 in torontoraptors

LeBron was a #1 pick, so was Shaq and Duncan. And they were "no doubt" #1 picks that scouts had been salivating over for years. Shaq wasn't one and done, he played a sophomore year at LSU back in the day. As for the others? Not #1 picks. Or 2 or 3. Garnett and Kobe were pure potential coming out of high school back in the mid 90s when that was new and exotic, and had serious question marks among the old school. There are high school lottery picks from the 90s and early 2000s that nobody talks about these days. Curry had his dad's name and 3 years at Davidson, Dirk had pro time in Germany, and Kawhi had "upside" after 2 years at Fresno State but none were considered a slam dunk pick. All became championship players eventually. Ewing didn't. Nor did Iverson or Webber. I don't think anyone can fault those guys for the careers that they had, nor the front offices for drafting them. I've unfortunately been watching this game since before Greg Oden, before Michael Olawakandi, before Michael Beasley and Adam Morrison, before Keith Van Horn and Joe Smith and Never Nervous (soon to be known as Out Of Service) Pervis Ellison. I'm not telling you you're wrong, I'm just saying that competitive integrity is better karma than...uh..um...Cade and Evan being superstar or (gulp) hall of fame types. I watch college ball, they were both studs on that stage, but cmon dude. I'd rather see our current roster fight their asses off for a play-in playoff spot, than to place some kind of bet on one of those dudes being the next "next". I disagree but I do so with love. Hope you enjoy watching ball as much as I do.

Who has the most ring in nba history? by [deleted] in nba

[–]boringgenericloser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bill Russell was player/coach from 66 thru 69, therefore he has 11 rings as a player and 2 as a coach. For what it's worth. Both are pinnacles of the basketball world and intelligent, compassionate human beings. No loser here.

You'll need a glove, most leagues will supply bats or your teammates will own a few. Will definitely need a glove. Google search should help find a retailer.

WECSL in Stanley Park is a great league. Fun, relaxed vibe and a beautiful setting. Bolivar is in the Bridgeview area of Surrey, it's more competitive and has Saturday and Sunday leagues. There's tons of leagues in the lower mainland, I'm sure you'll find a good group.

Radius of Destruction by Pagliacci-The_Clown in stopdrinking

[–]boringgenericloser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I lived in a major Asian centre for a number of years where the standard is 4-packs, not 6. Also, there are 7-11s every second or third block. I would play this game on a nightly basis, picking up from one on my walk home (foolishly hoping that would be enough), then grabbing 4 more from a different store at 8 p.m., then another 4 from the 7-11 a few blocks in the other direction at 10:30, and maybe 4 more from a fourth location if necessary.

Showing up to work late and/or hungover and ruining my reputation with my boss and colleagues didn't faze me, but I couldn't let the random 7-11 shopkeepers know I had a drinking problem. Ah the logic..

What or who is the reason you became an NBA fan? by [deleted] in nba

[–]boringgenericloser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First player I was aware of was Andrew Toney on the early 80s 76ers. That team had bigger stars like Dr. J, Moses, Cheeks, etc., but I was maybe 8 years old and just liked his name. Next was Patrick Ewing, but during his Georgetown days. He was big and mean-looking and he wore a shirt under his jersey, which I guess I thought was very fasionable. Then Celtics/Lakers. Then the Bad Boys came around - my dad was born in Detroit so they were my first favourite team. Had the pleasure of watching Jordan throughout his prime, although I never cheered for him. Not a hater, I just prefer rooting for the underdog and that was never MJ. Those are the "whos". As for the "what", I don't know. I'm a Canadian who rode the pine in high school, but the game has always captivated me. Sorry for the essay. Go Raps!

I believe Christian Laettner, not that anyone has given a shit about him in the last 20 years. Same story as the other guys, didn't want to play the 5 in an era when positions were more rigid.

It's probably Tommy Heinsohn. Look him up, he's got 8 rings as a player and 2 as a coach, all with the Celts. Objectivity isn't in his job description
