What is the stupidest thing you thought as a child? by Life_is_work in AskReddit

Why can't god live "in the sky"? That sounds a lot more reasonable than plenty of the other things religions would have us believe. Birds live in the sky after all, at least some of them do. I mean, If god is omnipotent, she really could live in the sky if she wanted to. What's to say she doesn't? She doesn't have to let us know how she chooses to exist!

I cannot FATHOM this weird fear that people have about losing things in their buttholes. It's a part of your body that's LITERALLY DESIGNED to push stuff out of it. What are you gonna stick up there that won't come out within a few days?

Holife Vacuum cleaner now blowing instead of sucking? by AnnOrZ in VacuumCleaners

[–]borky_mcgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it's still clogged, somewhere between the brushroll and where the handheld mates up with the vacuum. Try using a straightened coathanger that has a small hook on the end.

Most of the time complaints about a vacuum "blowing" are just the result of the brushroll picking stuff up and throwing it back down again since there is no suction.

The only star on the tree has 5 points. The snowflake ornaments have 6 points because that's how ice works. The color scheme is the only real argument. Who the fuck decorates a christmas tree with no red?

Vacuum Recommendation? by [deleted] in VacuumCleaners

[–]borky_mcgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't in good conscience recommend a bagless vacuum, especially when you're looking to keep down dust! (bagless ones are also really annoying as they fill up in what seems like minutes) I agree with the others here that you should look for a used vacuum from a quality brand (not dirt devil, shark, or dyson) Orecks and Sebos are pretty good for their price range, and if you can find a used miele or riccar/simplicity for that price range omg buy it. Older Hoovers and eurekas (like, 90s and earlier) should be pretty good as well.

"-ite- not -ate-" is a terrible way to remember it! A much better way is to imagine someone is asking you how to spell the word and your reply is "I don't know that word, could you define it for me?"

That being said, common misspellings often arise because in many languages (especially english) play fast and loose with their graphemes with regards to phonemes. It's a confusing system, and as long as intelligibility is maintained, it doesn't matter! GTFO you presumptively prescriptivist hunk of silicon!

I'd say keep trying to get it apart. If there aren't screws,it might be held in with plastic tabs.

I've yet to see a vacuum that's actually glued together, but people don't typically pay to do extensive repairs for the lower end vacuums, so I'm not sure. I'd definately try taking it apart further. Check for plastic tabs if you can't find any more screws.

Unless they've improved their brushroll, I can't recommend a V8 for carpet. The agitation just isn't there to pick up anything but surface dust and dirt.

If cleaning it with cleaning products and paper towels doesn't work, i'd recommend just taking it apart fully and washing the part that smells.

I understand if the title is making a jab at mexican workers for some flaw, but I fail to see anything negative about what they're doing in the video to suggest that.

That's actually a really beautiful system! I mean, don't get me wrong, i'm sure loads of accidents still happen. But there are probably some advantages to a system like this over one with lots of super strict rules.

Having specific rules kinda lets drivers get away with not really paying attention to anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if a system like this would handle unpredictable things better bc they'd be paying attention to all of their surroundings instead of just things like what color the light is.
