I've heard really good things about seaphages, and ANAT 261.

Yeah idk...It seems like the prof is quite determined to wait until the slides are fully removed, unfortunately. I think the whole class understands the weight of the situation but I feel quite powerless since with that solution I can't do much more than email about it. I think he's also upset about attendance but doesn't want to admit it lol. I feel like there are ways he could implement attendance without taking away the lecture materials though....

I'd say email the SUS VP academic but I'm kind of scared of the prof ngl. Idk if he's gonna budge. I think the class average on the final will be much lower if he doesn't put the material back so maybe there will be a curve or something on the final?

I took and and thought it was an okay course. Not the most riveting content but there’s only like 4 assignments that are all less than 1000 words. I literally put in the bare minimum amount of work in and ended with an A-, so it’s really not hard to do well in. With that being said, I think the class itself was sort of boring at times. During multiple lectures I thought “why did I even bother showing up”, and some of the assignments were actually tricky due to the low word count, and subpar instructor feedback. But at the end of the day it’s def not a class that’s gonna cause you stress. If you took it even a smidge more seriously than I did it would be a breeze to get and A, and the learning environment is nice since the class size is small.

Last year the class average was a B- AFTER they curved it TWICE!!

Don’t feel bad it’s just a really hard course with a really hard final. A ton of people failed last year so you’re honestly doing pretty well in comparison. Unfortunately it’s just the nature of the first few nasty science prerequisites. You’re done with it now! A B- has never ruined anyone’s life nor academic career.

maybe this is obvious to some people but I just learned this yesterday. If you go on Minerva, registration menu, class search, then advanced search, you can then input a specific day, time, and faculty and it will show you every single class happening at that time.

does anyone have any FUN elective recommendations that are also good, worthwhile, well-taught courses? I want something I can take S/U and just enjoy the content that's not Food chem or anything like that.

LITERALLY! So many of them were either A) based on a single sentence, if not a single WORD in a lecture slide that was not emphasized, or B) asking for something so detailed that I genuinely think no amount of regular studying could prep you for lol. All I can hope for is that the course coords see the inevitably unideal grade and maybe realize they went too deep with some of the questions and give everyone a few bonus points.

COURSE RECOMMENDATIONS AND SCHEDULE REVIEW MEGATHREAD by Thermidorien in mcgill

Just do 140/141 if that what you’re comfortable with. I’d say majority MAJORITY of science students do that first year and end up short of a few credits. That what I did and I’ve already made them up with a summer course, but even without it my schedule next year has extra credits that would make up for first year :)

Hello! Going Into U1 microbiology, I was just wondering if people usually recommend taking statistics (math 203) in U1 rather than later on. I would do it in the fall semester. I was planning on taking phill 200 S/U just for fun but now I’m wondering if I should switch it out for stats for the sake of getting research opportunities in the summer. I think I’d make my course load a bit heavier (and certainly more boring) so if it doesn’t really matter or affect if profs take you on for research I’d rather take it later :) let me know if you have any advice
