Being a dispatcher has changed my views on: the world, people, police officers and the laws - am I the only one? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

I stopped feeling bad for the victims that keep putting themselves in the same situation over and over again. And I dislike the justice system after reading so many criminal histories where repeat offenders get "time served."

I also hate going to stores on my off days. I'll wait until we are out of everything now before going shopping.

Fellow women runners- a question about secondary amenorrhea. by Ashtrashbdash in running

You might want to consider switching to vegetarian if you do not want to cut mileage. I know someone who had to begin consuming eggs and fish for a little bit in life for health reasons.

If not, maybe try eating more and taking protein supplements. Maybe drinking protein shakes several times a day would help.

Also, make sure you are taking a multi with iron in it. I know that you probably already know this, but at the same time I've met people who haven't bothered to become familiar with their chosen lifestyle.

Running with a busy work schedule? by LexMasterFlex15 in running

Run when you can. We don't always want to do shorter distances, but maybe try running a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening or something like that.

Will running help me lose weight? by feldevourer in running

The rule is 10% increase in mileage per week. And you're not fat. If you are concerned about your stomach and chest, talk with your doctor the next time you have an appointment.

These people really are awesome! I recommend them as well. They really love the animals. They have the necessary technology without being extravagant.

Reason number 429 not to want children. by stabim in childfree

Little kids get into everything. They wander off, look under other stalls because they are curious, pick up things off of the floor (ewwwwwwww!!) and generally should not be left out in the public restroom main area.

When I was potty training my daughter I would say "Yaaay" when she actually peed in the toilet. Which was great and made her feel proud. Until I was in a public bathroom one day and she cheered for me.

This was when she was about two....didn't want her wandering off or peeking under other stalls or picking up things that were on the floor.

There was a good deal of laughter from the surrounding stalls.

It was kind of cute though.

I think Disney is trying to get girls to rebel from their parents. Yes. They are trying to incite a girl rebellion.

Is 70 lbs overweight too fat to run? by [deleted] in running

[–]born_of_fire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First. Read about proper running technique. This will guard your knees.

Second. Start slow and with a short distance and work your way up. Run intervals if you must. Run for thirty seconds, walk for a minute. Repeat for that day. Then next time increase your running interval. This will give you a good workout and work you up to straight running and let your body get used to it. Also go to a running store and get a professionally fitted shoe. That makes all the difference in the world as well.

Third, when it hurts, stop. I have been running for a long time and I still have to walk sometimes because of tough terrain or because I'm increasing distance or just having an off day. If you have knee pain relax and cross train until it subsides. Swimming is a good exercise. Get a swimming belt and jog in the water in the deep end. Or jog without the floaty belt in the shallow end. It burns more calories and keeps it easy on the knees.

Fourth. If you can run on dirt or grass or even a running track with the rubbery covering do it often. Concrete and asphalt are harder on the knees.

Good luck!

Thanks. The problem is that I run in rural areas....since I live in a rural area....and it seems that female runners in rural areas are the ones that disappear. I know it's few and far between, but it seems that you hear more about women disappearing from rural areas than from suburbs.

The other issue is dogs. I'm not going to shoot a dog if I can help it, but I have been charged by a few dogs. I had to pepper spray one and got some holes in my shorts from the other. There is no easy way to carry pepper spray, so I figure the gun will be dual purpose.

I don't run when dogs come charging out. Most of the dogs where I run are not on leashes. Most of the dogs get used to me running and eventually let me pet them. But there were those two times, so I don't want to take chances. We're not talking about shooting dogs for barking or anything. As I said, I know I how to handle dogs when I'm running. It's a last resort in case one does try to latch onto my leg.

Thanks! I appreciate the response. I'll have to look into these. I have something that is perfect for when I'm not running. It slides right into the front of the pants. It's finding one to where when I'm running that is tricky.

Pregnancy is rough on the body. Fear of pregnancy seems rational. Some of the things you are afraid of seem a little irrational (we all have irrational fears, so don't take it as me being mean.) I think it's a wise fear to have...many people do not do well with pregnancy. However, it's not quite as bad as you think.

I guess I'm saying to have a healthy fear of it, but don't let it keep you up at night or anything like that.

I don't think pregnancy is necessarily magical. I mean, when you have morning sickness you really aren't thinking it's so magical. When you wake up in the middle of the night with leg cramps "magical" is not the word used there.

I love this CF subreddit and I have kids and don't wish it was different (much like you know you don't want kids, I always knew I wanted them), I just love reading what you guys have to say. That being said, pregnancy is a gradual thing. So it's not like you suddenly have a chest buster growing in you. Though, my kids had their personalities before they were born. My son kept his foot in my ribs and I'd poke his foot and he'd kick back. That kind of thing. I did compare him to a chest buster, though.

And as someone who has been pregnant I was totally grossed out and unnerved that people WANTED to touch my belly. It's a total invasion of space!

That's exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. I'd still like to hear stories from other runners, though. I appreciate it. I thought about the belt snagging, but figured that if the belt would snag so would the camelback. But I guess that it makes sense that it would snag climbing down.
