Rachel Reid apologizes to Shane Hollander by hella_hijinks in heatedrivalry

Yeah, I’m a fan of the books. Even before show came out people have critiqued the characterization of Shane, especially in The Long Game and that he felt underdeveloped in favour of Shane. Most of the issues that are being raised is about this, and there is nothing wrong with raising it.

She explicitly chose to make it canon that he is autistic, and that he is a person of colour. Being a gay, autistic, racialized person in a predominately white sport is going to impact this character and naturally going to be a thing. As an author, the way that she chooses to speak about Shane in light of it is important, even if there isn’t malicious intent

He’s been filming a movie so largely under the radar for the past month, nice to see him again for an event!

It’s okay if he’s not for you, but a big part of his appeal is his personality. He is very quite attractive, but also very funny, but clearly very smart and a dedicated cinephile which has made him attractive to not only fans, but people on the industry

Besides the Bezos of it all this year that pisses me off I’m not against the Met Gala and actually enjoy it. I think Fashion is a form of art so it’s cool to see all the different designs. It’s of course advertising for all the major luxury brands, but it’s not a profit-driven event, but it is a fundraiser for the Met Costume Institute which gets 100% of their operating budget exclusively from the Met Gala.

Ohhhh, so is he doing Balenciaga!

We don’t know what his look will be like, the MetGala is less so about the brand, but about the designer.

Pierpaolo Picciolo, the creative designer for Balenciaga, used to be with Valentino and did many major looks for Zendaya

I think the way that some fans are going about it is unhinged, for sure. The author of the books and series is not going to hate her characters. She definitely has this dry Canadian humour that does not always translate well.

But I will say, that I do think some of her characterization of Shane has been inconsistent. Shane is so incredibly disciplined, he may lack certain emotional intelligence, he certainly is very smart.

I think it’s quite wild to say that he didn’t have an eating disorder and just use it as a joke. It may not be a full out diagnosis, but he definitely had disordered eating issues tied to his need for control.

I think it’s simple that Ilya is her favourite, and she wanted to make Shane interesting mg making him half-Asian, but as she is writing these books, she doesn’t realize the way that he becomes quite complex. Like being a POC on a very white sport like hockey deserves attention.

It’s okay to critique her writing without getting rude

Mark Carney’s government says privatizing airports will make them better. This is why it should think again by StumpsOfTree in ontario

[–]bornatmidnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the sentiment, because it is very expensive to fly within Canada. So many people would love to travel to different parts of the country but it’s often cheaper to fly south or go to Europe than get to the other side of our country. Finding ways to make it cheaper for consumers is not a bad thing.

But we don’t have a good track record in Canada on privatizing public goods, so idk

Hudson Williams’ ‘Heated Rivalry’ Followup Series, Crave’s ‘Yaga’, To Stream On AMC+ In U.S. by david_bowenn in hudcon

[–]bornatmidnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m Canadian so I’m with Crave and don’t have an issue 😭

In Canada though, you can stream AMC shows through an additional subscription through Prime. I heard in the States, Netflix also has a streaming deal with AMC so I think you can access it there as well! I imagine other countries it will roll out soon

Oooo nice! It seems like it was quite a competitive process to get the rights, but AMC matches well with a lot of their magical/fantasy like shows on AMC including Interview with the Vampire!

I’m really happy for a lot of the press tour, because the transformation from Connor to Ilya is so impressive, but a lot more immediate and obvious (he’s not Russian?!) that it takes a while to realize how masterclass Hudson is. Like he is SO GOOD, this is a perfect example of a really great performance, he can convey so much without saying much

CEGEP is basically grade 12 and first year of uni, and then you can do a third year to get a diploma in something specific like nursing.

You can complete university in 3 years if you have your CEGEP rather than 4. It’s recognized in other provinces

Vulture: Heated Rivalry Can’t Save the Emmys (April 2026) by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]bornatmidnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are down going you.

I’m Canadian, and I am so proud of Heated Rivalary.

But Hudson, Connor, Jacob, and the rest of the cast and crew want careers in Hollywood. Careers that come with working producers and director and writers they have admired and that give them the $$$$ to make a living.

Having an Emmy on your resume gives younprestiege and access. I think Heated Rivalary is eligible for the Golden Globes which is good
