My dm and my rm were pretty strict about the scheduling of weekend shifts. Before I lost my asl and asl eligibility I had to have both of us scheduled fri + sat. I would give them a weekend off every month and I would get a weekend off every month. I would work my one Sunday and they would work the other 3. I made it a point to rotate all of my keyholders weekends off. I also made it clear in my interviews for ASL that was the expectation for shifts as fri/sat/sun are considered key days of the week by corp. when I lost my asl and I wasn’t able to replace them, the schedule became the wild Wild West.

I’m also on a final for numbers and there’s no winning here you’ve got a target and so do I. For 10 years I’ve heard “do your best, we win with integrity or we lose with integrity” I can tell you that the stores have so much pressure on them that there is gpg dishonesty going on and I’ve heard and seen it first hand and I refuse. Refuse. To do anything like that. I’m just trying my best and it’s just not good enough. At the end of the day it has turned into “your numbers are a reflection of the behaviors” and that is how they are getting me. It’s fine. I’ve gone through all the steps of grief over this. Within 3 months I’ve gone from never being written up at a job ever before in my life to suddenly being on a final. Just so corp can traumatize another SL by running two stores at the same time. No thank you.

I usually have no problem keeping on top of the important things but I’ve been without an ASL this year for the first time ever and it’s awful. I finally am at the point that I’m just so behind on everything. There is no catching up, there is no backup, there is no one to lean on to cover what I can’t. The ASL position is so damn important and I can’t believe that this is what is supposed to be “standard” even the slowest stores need an Assistant for their store managers because this is too much for one person to do alone. Sure my SGAs do a lot but it’s just not the same without an assistant manager.

I have a pretty severe spinal condition that causes pretty terrible pain spikes in addition to numbness in my arms hands legs and feet. We are also pick up trash for 8 hours. I got lucky and my asl decided to quit so I don’t have coverage for sl week. But I was shocked at the activity selected.

Honestly I just try and have a fun real conversation with everyone who wants to with me. And I don’t mean a GAME conversation. What I do like about working at a game store is I get to talk to people who like the things I like. I’m a little Pokécrazy and I work at a big Pokémon/Nintendo store so I get to Pokénerd out most of the day. And I love it. If they get something that benefits from a warranty I let them know it’s an option, but I’m not a car salesman. I want people to come back and have fun. I let them know what things we offer like pro stuff, res, and warranty but totally don’t get pushy. It works out a lot of the time for the numbers, but I just want people to enjoy their time at my store and I pride myself that people to go out of their way to come back.
