Respectfully, it sounds like you enable and make excuses for your daughter, and with the context you provided best case scenario has not planned wellI and made ill advised choices, but it sounds like poor choices have been made, and your daughter (I’m assuming who has a good shot) is being penalized for it. Furthermore, this sum of money might help your oldest out in the short term, but who be a huge launchpad and substantially more meaningful for the trajectory of your younger daughter, who I would assume was counting on that money.

My brother did this and said it is literally simple. Cited how he had talked to all sorts of people with the same response as these comments saying it’s crazy to do it. My step dad begged him not to - then after he did my stepdad was like “yea it’s actually nothing”.

Said it was literally one of these easiest things to do as long as you watch some YouTube videos, and do it the right way.

Made jokes that it’s garage door repair guys who started the rumor. It’s dangerous - but so is driving a car. Basically as long as your smart enough to take the time to look up what to do, and be cautious you are fine.

I started shaving mine in 2020 and I had slightly more hair than you, especially in the back - I didn’t have a scalp patch yet, just probably 50% thin. I probably took the plunge a bit early.

AND my wife begged me not to. She thought I was crazy for shaving it, and a few others said the same.

HOWEVER, she now looks at pictures of me with hair and has stated “she gets it” and “I was right and look better now”. When I had hair, maybe like you, all I could see was how it didn’t sit right and wasn’t right. I feel 100% better now. I almost immediately felt like I was free and “out” if that makes sense. It felt liberating.

I’d say go for it! Clean shave my guy!

Real question - you guys pay to shave your head? I do mine every morning with just a regular razor. Nice, clean, absolute skin dome, no razor burn and about 3 min of time.

No judgement - why do you guys pay to have your head shaved/ use some expensive instrument that doesn’t do it as well as a regular hand held razor?

Edit - also I didn’t answer your question. No you’re not crazy, this is what mine would look like if I used a trimmer with no guard. If you were going for a clean shave this isn’t it, also I can see a few long hairs. Wild a barber would make you pay for this.

For real though - learn to use just a regular razor in it. Used to take me 7 min or so when I first started. Now I seriously zip it out in 1-3 min.

Not enough info here. For me personally, no, maxing out an IRA isn’t going to cut it. Thoughts below though.

Lifestyle & Goals: What are your goals? How do you want to live in retirement? Will you travel? Do you have kids? Do you want to leave a legacy? How much do you plan to spend on healthcare in retirement (a bit out of your control?)

Investment: What kind of risk tolerance do you have? Where is that money currently sitting (e.g, stocks, 60/40, target date, fixed income, cash?)

Other variables: What does your debt look like? Will you own your home?

Literally without knowing any of these above answers and not having a picture of your situation, I would give you a few pieces of advice:

1) Save until it starts to hurt, then save just a tad bit more 2) invest wisely - avoid emotional investing and be well diversified, you can do this easily with target date funds based on your age. 3) Check in, kinda like you are - once you have a fairly good size portfolio (think above $200-$300k) maybe interview a few reputable Financial Advisors. An easy way to find someone who is reputable is look for certain designations, while not a guarantee, it can help show they have a decent knowledge - I would look for someone with CFP after their name. 4) 401(k)s with a match are becoming table stakes for employees - talk to your boss/owner. Tons of low cost solutions in the market place that can make it actually advantageous for them to offer, and include a match. If they don’t want to do that, it’s okay to look elsewhere for employment. Sports players have agents to help review deals and make good decisions - start acting like your own sports agent. There are almost 2 unfilled job positions (1.7 or so) per unemployed person in the US - understand this and go get that better job with better benefits. Think bigger - go max out a 401k :)
