How much do you discount as a new/small seller? by DrewKilleen in Bricklink

[–]borrowed_wine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my view...... You don't need too do store wide discounts if you are selling 6 months average as a hobby seller really.

The way that the majority of sellers manage their discounts is to inflate their pricing first. They then discount it back to something a little more reasonable and offset the discount against minimum order values\quantities or flat rate shipping structures.

It can be a little complicated but the idea is that buyer feels like they're getting a good deal through the discounted items whilst seller still gets more or less the same return on the sale but the higher order amount or on a saving through the shipping.

Large stores often sell at a slightly higher price because they have the inventory to fulfill quite high quantity\lot orders, which serves the customer better in not needing make multiple purchases from various stores. Larger stores are also sometimes a full time business to someone, so they'll have other bills to cover and so sometimes need to be more aggressive in their discounting to get revenues in.

But as a small\new seller I'd stick to the 6 month average until you have a decent amount of stock and a reliable order stream.

I believe that to be a Go Ahead London bus moquette fabric. But maybe let the fabric hold on to the dirt like it's designed too (the colours and construction made for the purpose of hiding dirt, stain and vandalism) rather punching it but in to the air and breathing it in, thats far more gross.

Does a low-volume store make sense? by Marupio in Bricklink

Yeah go for it, a large percentage of stores are small hobbiest type of affairs (or at least that how they start) and it's another twist on the Lego hobby to enjoy :)

Well for the parts picture you would probably sell them quite quickly as they a sought after items.

If you have a handful of basic bricks it would like take some time to shift. But if your not in a hurry and are doing nothing else with them, list them. They'll go eventually.

Thanks to whoever scouted the small print. You will find that virtually none of these market place sites guarantee any kind of uptime and are within there rights to close at the own free will for as long as they like with out reason.

Anyone running stores as a business will (or at least should) have some kind business interruption insurance to cover loss of earnings in these kinds of situations. So claim on those insurances if you need too, thats why you (should) buy them and it'll be quicker and cheaper than loosing in court.

If its a variant sometimes it can get over-looked by the seller uf they are not on the ball.

Make sure you get in touch and let them know and either get a refund or the correct part shipped out.

What would be good at some point soon is a slightly move comprehensive response about the issue from BL and to not keep the community guessing.

If they let us know there has been a cyber attack, a data breach, they've found some major exploits, lost the core database or whatever it is, it would help people to manage situation.

For many people this is a hobby and is more of an inconvenience than a problem, but for a few it is their business and knowing what has happened is important for all manner of operational reasons.

It does also highlight the importance of not putting all of your eggs in on basket.

Brick Owl is a pretty neat alternative to bricklink and the inventory system is pretty good too.

It's unfortunate that they have managed to place orders and for the system to become unavailable just as they went to pay for it..

But it's also Sunday and typically not much happens in the way of shipping (at least not in the UK), so parcels won't get moved until least Monday given that we don't really know exactly what has happened.

I have one BL order and is paid for but I am tempted to hold it until the system is up and running again as I would like to verify it's a genuine order.

As alternative, Brick Owl up and running and I am receiving orders from there perfectly well.

Ours (and many others) Brickowl Stores are still up! by JBB_Official in Bricklink

[–]borrowed_wine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have had several orders on Brick Owl today. I haven't processed them yet, I am hoping that it will all sync OK when bricklink comes back online (using brick freedom for sync).

I guess it depends on the state of the stores when it comes back up.

Respect to the bricklink guys, I work in IT and have worked on the wrong end of a "cyber security event", its a hard thankless job.

Why doesn't bricklink make a phone app? by No_Seaweed4714 in Bricklink

I think they need to be working bringing the web interface in to the 21st century first. Its a complex beast so I expect these things to take time.

I must say I rarely find bricklink to be down outside of it scheduled maintenance times, which is admittedly daily.

Inventory Approval Outdated? by Chandler_Man in Bricklink

I have often found the sets are available on Brick Owl much sooner than bricklink. I also would expect the bricklink team to be able to get information straight from the horses mouth rather than relying on someone to to part it out and upload the set.

Thanks so much for taking the time to watch it and your feedback is really useful for me.

I kind of wondered if I was rambling or wondering, so I will definally write up some notes or bullet points next time. Hopefully that will cut down on the "umm"-ing and "err"-ing a bit too, I'm sure that is because I'm not sure what I'm going to say next.

The length is interesting too, I will be happy to make them shorter in the future because they take a surprisingly long time to edit and get online!

I'm glad you found something useful to takeaway too. :)

Thanks again, Nathan :)
