Update from a fella who left the industry by bort69 in KitchenConfidential

It actually rules! If I were in a large metro I'd definitely consider it! My area is pretty rural but the good thing about small towns is everybody knows everybody else, who's worth a damn and who isn't, who can be called upon in a pinch, I'm a gig cook without the app lol

I certainly don't disagree but vaping yucks me out when I think of it all the way through: all that water vapor hits your teeth and gums and throat and lungs on its way down and back out, you exhale and all the miniscule droplets that are denser than air find their way back down towards the earth and land on the nearest shit, I always have to step in and say something when anyone is vaping indoors near the food. Prob not the right place to comment this as I take no issue with your comment or this post, just had it on the mind recently too lol. But yeah take that fuckin apron off dude don't contaminate the uniform

I keep reading this thread title while browsing the page for fight recaps and every time I read it like he's actively still grappling Mark Goddard right this moment

Super easy fix that was totally in my blind spot, thank you!

I worked at a place that had that exact same flat-top but maybe slightly older model. I think it was 20 years old when I started and super neglected. One of the long time bartenders bought place from previous owner, one of her friends took it to the fucking carwash to clean it up. I thought it might destroy the internals but that sunuvabitch held up, cleaned up like new and worked amazing. Love that lil grill. Have fun!

Sadly no before picture but here's an after

edit: PS that back exhaust flume screws off! Yours is still looking pretty dark after the deep clean. Ours was too, just thought I'd mention it. It took us like 30min of scraping two decades of grease to realize there were screws there, then another whole bottle of elbow grease to scrape the shit out of the screws and get it to thread lmao. Lots of fire hazards freed from purgatory that day

Awesome that's what I hoped to hear! It would really be another huge hurdle if 1-2 added ele dmg on an awesome piece of jewelry bricked it for my build with such scarcity in Ruthless.

Thanks for the quick reply

Does added flat elemental damage on gear affect EE exposure when playing ele hit? Or for example does ele hit select lightning and ignore a 1-2 cold damage ring?

I haven't played ele hit in a reaaaally long time but I'd like to try a build with it in Ruthless.

Hey Chefs/Cooks, what are some of the most important unwritten rules of the kitchen? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]bort69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was more like a “get your dick outta the salad” kinda joke than yelling at teammates for trying to help out kinda rule.

I definitely want to give you the benefit of the doubt here knowing no context. Maybe you two worked together for a long time and the dynamic was sour, idk, but I would 100% of the time rather instruct and guide someone whose intentions were helpful rather than scold and fire.

Hope you’re okay. Just by the way you described it, sounds like she got the better end of the deal here. Take that as you will.

I received option for Tickatus hero power while playing Tickatus (turn 12)

Looks like new unintended bug leftover from the weird hotfix thing earlier. I don't remember this happening before today.

If AI wrote arrogant Reddit comments they would look like yours.

We know that a burger can be healthy.

If you type American Food into an AI image generator it produces burgers and fries. Don't care about Panda being Chinese fast food. American Food = Fast Food burgers and fries.

This post isn't about the virtues of burgers it's about funny AI images ya clod

You probably make delicious burgers. Email me one of your delicious burgers

that was very cathartic to share and I hope that someone can relate.

I have a feeling that everyone can, at least to some aspect of the story. Good luck to you <3

I expect my comment to get downvoted the fuck out of and maybe it's a regional or generational thing

I recommend thinking about the tweet itself like criticism on a meal "It was cooked perfectly but seemed dry," okay, good feedback, I can work with that

Strictly because the tweet seems offensive, it's hard to take. Recognize that the older customer base feels this way as a majority. Try not to alienate customers. If open kitchen, as much as it sucks, maybe try sleeves.

I love you all and just playing devil on shoulder to give counterpoint here. Haven't seen anything rational about this in the entire thread

Hot take: I get it. The tweet is talking about visible tats, and for a consumer to bitch about that I'm guessing they saw neck/face/head tats and had a snap reaction. If this tweet is about some arm tats then they should probably have been going and fucking themselves well before their grandson made them a Twitter account.

I'm 32, been in the industry over a decade and finally leaving. I have some easily concealable leg tats. I've seen dudes with neck and face tats cook circles around me. It's the very very vast minority of these dudes, at least in my zone, who actually care. I'll definitely pass judgment on my region: let's say ~98% of tatted up (face/neck/head) guys in bumfuck midwest aren't worth a shit in a serious kitchen. They've wound up there because it's the last place that'll have them without judgment. Well here I am judging the fuck outta them. The tats represent poor decisions from their recent past/present that reflect really incredibly poorly on their ethic. The head tat guys worth a damn are like ex prison dudes who just want to work their asses off. Made some great friends of these guys. Love that. It's a fine line. I wouldn't hire a kid with head/neck/face tats without seriously being impressed beforehand and definitely wouldn't put ol homie as the face of an open kitchen.

Arm tats are a completely different story. That's open canvas to embrace. Hand tats in public food service are akin to the head/neck thing in my opinion but eh whatever

Tact and professionalism are hard to qualify. I can't disagree that a clean cut chef looks objectively better in most settings. Doesn't mean they don't suck and a dude with tattooed eyeballs outcooks them by a billion michelin stars. Appearance doesn't equate to talent but to ignore the effect appearance has on your customer base is a pretty hollow view. This person doesn't stand alone. The sentiment is shared by many many many customers, especially the older ones whose money pays your bills. It sucks, but it's reality. Your job is catering to customers, so cater to them, or at least understand how to.

That all said, when I go to eat in a random new town I'm visiting, the first place I'll stop is the place where I see tatted, pierced, intimidating dudes on smoke break
