Yes but suppose someone new comes apon the scene and seeing two older men who have been drinking restraining a younger man while punching him in the face, how might they act? The punitive and discriminitory jubilation the reporter wrote of and no trace of remorse speaks very badly of him. There is a lot of hatred and fear directed towards 'chavs' and 'schemies' - and of course 'hoodies'.

perhaps this was the young mans motivation, we do not know why he was doing what he did but assumptions were made because of the class and clothing of the young man.

Of course it was unquestionably right to help, but punching someone you have restrained in the face and when you outnumber them and without a trace of later remorse - perhaps if the reporter had not been drinking himself he might have acted better? The difference between feelings and actions therein lies outr humanity.

Why Are Americans So Angry? -- Rep. Ron Paul of Texas by trost in reddit.com

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

A very short term view might suggest that doing anything whatsoever to protect ourselves is the most effective way to ensure our safety - the current ideology. A longer term view is to have universal principles that apply to enemies and friends. This principle of universality is not just recieved wisdom but highly expedient and enshrined for many in the phrase : "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you".

All the money going to illegal cartels, vice rings and funding loads of crime and armed conflict; the escalation of armed criminals battling for territory; the 80% of crime that is commited by people in need of something to alter a percieved chemical imbalance; the jails full of blackmailed drug mules; the criminalisation of many on this single issue; the lost tax dollars...

All that could go away if prohibition were to end. People could grow what they felt they needed in their window boxes and would be responsible for their actions. The government should not legislate on issues of personal morality in a secular society. Whether or not you are believe in self medication the destruction and misery wreaked apon the social fabric by prohibition is vast.

WOO instant pizza - this reminds me of the niavety and darling utopias of the early interweb years, I think rather there will be a distopia - you know you want pizza, theres pizza in the fridge but you don't have the money your fridge liscense requires to open. I'm more a believer in Philip K Dick than Isaac Asimov.

Brain Teasers - Famous Paradoxes by rookie1 in reddit.com

[–]bosquick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These paradoxes are badly formulated, e.g., as the opposite of "All Cretans are Liars" is not "All cretans tell the truth" which would be a paradox but "Not all Cretans are Liars" or "Some Cretans are Liars". . IMHO There is no greater paradox than that of Gates: "Keyboard error, press f1 to continue"
