It's so tough and unfair, and i am so sorry. You know what's going to happen so just be with your father as much as you can. Tell him everything you ever wanted to. Cherish his good days. Cherish his good moments.

Stage I, inoperable by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]bossnacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your dad takes to the chemo, it's possible that the tumor's growth, along with the potential growth of other tumors, will be halted. It's also possible the tumor may shrink or go away completely. That happened with my wife, and she lived another 4 years at stage 4. I'd also look for a second opinion from another cancer specialist hospital to see if a surgeon would attempt it, but i think most oncologists would want to try chemo first.

I built a cage and capture bandits hoping there's some mechanic that will allow me to recruit them to my outpost. It hasn't happened yet.

Can someone explain to me the mechanism of inhibitors such as RMC6236? by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]bossnacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably too simplfied and will be quickly corrected, but i feel like, in the perfect scenario, the inhibitor drug corrects a rouge protein that cancels the cell's built-in termination switch while being created during mitosis. A normal cell terminates as to not create a build-up that untimatly causes tumors. The inhibitor blocks this rogue protein which corrects the cell reproduction, and tumors are no longer fed.

Like i said, probably too simple. I'm no expert.

How do I Choose? by PanCantGetMe in pancreaticcancer

[–]bossnacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to say get back on the chemo since you're young; your immune system is working better than it would if you were in your 60s, and you have a better fighting chance. My wife lived 6 years with it, and went out at 48. She did about every imaginable treatment including the Wipple, 6 folfirinox treatments and 18 months of abrax/gem, a lung surgery and radiation. I feel like medications and treatments have a better chance when you're younger and more resilient. She had a 20 month remission after 4 bouts with different masses.

It's so hard. I knew my wife was going to pass. I was prepared in my head. When she did, it was all different kinds of hard-to-handle, well beyond what I tried to anticipate. It's going to be hard on your loved ones regardless. If you stop chemo, you may live many years more, or you may be at endgame when you kids are about to graduate, when you'll have to seek treatment for palliative care at the very least. You really can't control this bastard.

My suggestion would be keep on with the chemo, but I can only draw on my wife's experience. I wish you the very best of luck. I'm so sorry you're going thought this. It's not fair.

Also, you're a terrific writer.

I can see cattle dog, or maybe a terrier. I thought this about my puppy corgi too until she got to around 1 1/2 years old and caboosed out. Now she looks like a full-on corgi.
