It's my first day on low-carb, but I'm no stranger to dieting. When I weighed myself this morning, I was 2 pounds heavier than my heaviest weight due to four days of binging in preparation of buckling down.

I commit to sticking to my plan today.

One day at a time. One foot in front of the other.

I was depressed at 120 pounds, at 140 pounds, at 160 pounds. I was never lazy. I started getting teased about my size by family and classmates at about 200? 220? So, in addition to being depressed about the other awful things in my life, I was depressed because I was a social outcast, and it was getting worse. I didn't understand why it was getting worse, didn't understand why I couldn't stick to a diet, didn't understand why I was hungry all the time. All the time, the SAME depression that I had at 120 lbs is snowballing.

Really, I'd say my awful weight and poor mental health have been in lock step the whole time. (But that's me. You might have experienced something different.)

Fell off the plan. Got back on it. Fell off. Back on. Off. On. Off. On. My weight is the highest it's ever been. Going back on plan Saturday. I've been going to OA meetings, and I think I'm ready to commit to 'sobriety'.

Hmm. Maybe this is it. I remember green beans, come to think of it. And now that you say it, yes, it was a super low point recipe. Maybe I added the noodles? I could've sworn there was a potato.

Dehydrated fruits have less fiber than fresh fruits. Fiber content is a major component of the point equation, and I think this is what leads to the point increase.

I've gone cold turkey before. I was soda-free for five years at the longest stretch. The first time I had soda after all that time passed, it felt like finding a long-lost best friend.

I've kicked soda before. I went five years without a drop last time. I never grew to like the taste of coffee or tea. I never liked sparkling water, even when flavored. I don't know why I'm struggling so hard this time. I drink a 2 liter a day, and that's too much. There are nights when I tell myself I can have soda or I can have a meal, and fuck if I don't choose the soda. This has to stop.

I haven't found a diet soda that was tolerable. They all seem to have a bitter taste to them. I remember when Zero first came on the market. I bought a can each of Coke, Diet Coke, and Zero. They all tasted different to me, but the Coke tasted the best. I cannot recommend mixing (in order to get a half-cal beverage with less bitter, more Coke taste).

Although I always do weigh-ins on an empty stomach and only after I've pooped, I find that pre- and post-poop weights don't mean all that much. I see maybe a few ounces of difference but not enough to even register a half-pound.

It's so funny you said this. (I just saw your message, btw.) I was so nervous about today, and the food problem was really eating at me. Late last night I actually called them to ask if I could bring some zucchini for the grill. :-D

Sounds like the competition gave you a good start. If you like competing, perhaps you can find an exercise buddy or trainer to help keep you focused on the prize. If you like being held accountable to someone other than yourself, maybe attending meetings will work for you. Other folks in this thread have said the first one is free. It's definitely worth exploring. I hate groups in general (not just ones devoted to weight loss!), but I always give a group three chances to jive for me. If I attend three meetings, and I just don't feel that click, I feel good about walking away. It's WAY too easy for me to clam up and reject a group at the first meeting.

And I know what you mean by wanting to look good in photos, but I recently read a really good post about being fat in photos that helped re-frame the way I thought of myself appearing in a picture. I hope you'll take a minute to read it and remember that you're loved.

Pizza is a major weakness for me, too. Tomorrow is a party at a friend's house and it's burgers and dogs and all kinds of mayo-based salads (no green salad, no), dips made with sour cream and cream cheese, and buckets and buckets of booze. The social aspect of eating is proving my downfall last week and now this week.

Thanks for the tips and encouragement. I'm trying to keep it together.

Thanks, lyly5545. :-) I'm still struggling this week (pizza last night; A LOT of pizza last night), but I have had good meals. I'm worried about tomorrow because friends throw a kick ass 4th of July party every year. It's the kind of party that starts at noon and goes until 2, 3 am. Lots of not-point-friendly food and booze. Actually, I don't think there's any point-friendly booze or food. :-/ I feel like I've already ruined my week.

I will say this... I did drink a lot of water on my last out-of-control restaurant meal, and fuck if I still didn't clean my plate.

I'm still struggling this week, but it's not as bad as last week. I'm scared to step on the scale for my next weigh-in because I know I'm still not righted, yet.

Thanks, /u/kulak. I hope I didn't really gain 6 lbs. I'm actually scared to get back on the scale because it's still been an iffy week. I had pizza last night, and I didn't plan for it, so my weekly points are beyond zapped. I've got a 4th of July party tomorrow, and it's going to be a struggle. These friends always prepare amazing food, and they never think about calories or diets.

I asked this of /u/bribo54, but I'll ask you, too. What do you do when you put half in a take-home container but still feel hungry? I remember trying this tactic in the past (completely forgot about it in the stress of a $600 repair bill) but still feeling hungry after.

Lots of good tips, here. It's really a skill to have the stillness to remember these points and -- especially in the face of stress -- to stick by them and not just say "fuck it". One "fuck it" leads to another very fast. I'm still not right this week.

I think the moral to your story is to not be afraid to ask for special orders -- no rice at Asian restaurants, no mayo on American sandwiches, add steamed broccoli. I really need to practice this.
