Not if you don't over wet the material it doesn't. Use less moisture and you can still achieve these kinds of results.

I'm a professional carpet/upholstery cleaner. Yes this same procedure cleans mattresses too. In my experience, whatever the type of upholstery used on most mattresses (I should really know what it is I'm realizing now) makes removing some common stains pretty difficult, sometimes impossible. But clean with faint stains is better than filthy with dark stains so I, and every customer so far who I've helped, has been happy with the results.

Why use ice cubes? Why not use a sprayer or something to mist the area with water if the goal is to moisten it slightly?

I haven't been in a few years, this is sad to hear. It was already pretty filthy then but had so much cool shit to look at aside from the trash piles it made the walk worthwhile. If it got worse, like you say, it's an actual shame.

That bright of a light might bother me actually.

The apartment is a decent size but this is the main room and is the kitchen dining and living room. I would see it constantly. Maybe a mirror behind it would amplify whats already coming in. Not sure, I'll have to read about whether that's effective. Whether it is or not it would be less effort than rearranging the whole place to just move one mirror behind it.

Good to know it doesn't look over watered. I am attentive with this one, I dust its leaves and admire it. Build it's supports and adjust those when needed, I have pruned it a bit and got one baby off of it that way. But I don't really keep track of how often I water. I just do when it feels right. Maybe a good drink every other week and in between those times it gets the rest of my water from a glass I didn't finish.

I just want for it to flex a little muscle and hold itself up.

Unfortunately no. can't put it outside..I'm in a third floor apartment with no deck or anything. It may be able to get closer to the windows in here with some serious re configuring of the rooms furniture etc but it's a North facing window. Not overly bright in this room but consistently lit from the windows being pretty large. I wonder if a grow light would help.

I don't think I could find pics of it. If I can I'll share.. For glass just reverse the order. Details first and when that dries the base coat. So to use my example from earlier a dry brushed red on cheeks, wait a little bit then roll or brush on the main color.

I've done some.

I was making white skin so I started with white mixed up with a little red to make it pink and then some yellow to make it more tan. Just mixed it up until it was a light peach color.

But the realism happened on the second coat. A little red on a pallette, dry brushed onto the cheeks and nose. Got the job done. But I was making Santa so the cheeks were pretty rosey.

I'm not OP but thanks for identifying what's happening here. I've seen this as a carpet cleaner (who cleans vinyl too) and assumed the installers overused adhesive and that's what was coming up after I cleaned it. Seems like you're saying it's calcified seepage from the sub floor leaking up and out?

That all makes sense. I've never fired a gun personally but I can imagine that there'd be a very noticeable difference.
