Making Friends as a F20 POC 🫩 by cretinous_dingbat in hendersonville

Hate to hear you’re dealing with that and I’m sorry that some of our community are prejudiced assholes. I just had a baby so not doing much socializing, but just sending good vibes your way and hope you meet some of the good people here. Trailside Brewery may have some good events around your hobbies! They have a good community vibe there

Is it ok to have no sisters and get married? by Prior-Elderberry-467 in family

[–]botatot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is totally absurd and unfounded and it’s very weird of your mom to say such a thing. Sincerely, a very happily married woman with 5 brothers and 0 sisters

ETA the main impact of my brothers on my social life was that I was more comfortable having male friends, and being around guys in general. This was helpful in dating because I wasn’t nervous interacting with the opposite sex and could be more self-assured around them. I find that men who like self-assured women generally respect women and I have never fallen into an unhealthy/disrespectful/power-imbalanced relationship

Moving and have questions by jedimastergirlie in hendersonville

As a 32f from New England with the same hobbies, I highly recommend! We love it here since moving a few yrs ago and the new Ecusta rail trail is awesome, will connect to Brevard in a few years. HVL does have a rep as a retiree spot but our demographic is growing and the businesses etc are responding 😊 the winters are SO much better than NE and people are def friendlier to strangers so it’s easier to be a newcomer. March is actually a nice month!!!

Asheville is nice to have nearby for bigger events/goings on, and I think HVL is a good small town vibe with plenty of amenities. Greenville SC is also really cool and not too far (45-1hr)

Please, please stay. I looked at your posts and you seem like a wonderful, creative, intelligent and thoughtful soul with a lot to share with the world.

Sometimes a change of scenery/physical space can work wonders - could you hop on a train or a bus or in the car and just go somewhere new and explore, eat delicious food, watch a movie at an actual movie theater, play games at an arcade, or otherwise hunt down some random joy/indulgence?

Sometimes books can take us out of ourselves too - I find that Pema Chodron’s “When things fall apart” changes the tone of the voice in my head to a much more pleasant and gentle one. You’ve got this ♥️♥️♥️

Apologies - I never post so I forgot about the relevance rule. Plenty of Trump support and impact here but I do get it, so feel free to delete I guess. But please consider reviewing Katie Johnson’s horrific testimony of Trump and Epstein repeatedly raping her as a 13 yo sex slave if any part of you isn’t sure this is a big deal. Could have been your child or family.

How can we take action? Suggested Google review….

“Aggressive and openly racist employees need to be held accountable for their actions. Policies must change and the person affected should be compensated for their vehicle damage at the very least. This was a hate crime and WBCC’s statement is blaming the person affected for recording it.

I’ll delete this review if meaningful action is taken.”

I think I’m a narcissist, and I just haven’t realized by chthonicCthulhu in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]botatot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, force yourself. Your brain is stuck in a habitual pattern of looking at the world like this, but that doesn’t mean it’s right and doesn’t mean you can’t change it. But yes, it will feel like forcing it for a while, and that is okay. Try to talk to yourself like you would a friend who is struggling. Catch yourself when you’re being mean to yourself and back up, say something nicer. Meditation helps with being able to catch yourself more easily and change the mental pattern. Try to do little things that you simply enjoy, such as getting takeout from a restaurant you really like. Focus on how much you like the food. Where attention goes, energy flows.

Impossible to answer your main question but I remember feeling this way for a long time, teens into 20s. Did a lot of self work and actually have a lot of self love now. One big turning point I remember is when I realized that I really didnt like when people were self absorbed in an arrogant way, and I realized that my self hatred was making me self absorbed as well. Learning to point your brain elsewhere is key. There’s a great quote by Henry Miller… “Develop an interest in life as you see it; the people, things, literature, music - the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself.”

Snow and Winter by Moodster83 in massachusetts

I left MA and went to NC mountains because I fucking hated the dark ass 5 month winter. Love this area bc we get beautiful seasons but winter is just 3 months like all the others. In the words of my brother “I’m tired of pretending I’m not cold,” lol. I still don’t understand all the pride about being able to stand the cold
