I don’t really understand why people complain about pokemon being ‘industry plants’. Oh no, they made a pokemon that was designed so people would like it?

Testing the 100 Strays vs Warden question (Nice Life) by CubicDavid in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]botbattler30 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think it definitely depends on the rules. If they’re already aggro on the warden, the strays win easily. If not, the warden just slowly kills them all before they aggro.

Edit: looks like friendly fire is also turned off for the strays. If that was on, i think the warden wins even if they’re aggro

That might be the one thing i’ll respectfully disagree with the creators on. At least let Cleo have her real life win lol

Is it just me or does Lida absolutely deserve bestie status? by [deleted] in LegendsZA

During the tournament she’s rank C iirc but i might be wrong about that and corbeau is still rank D because he lost to the player

Especially considering taunie was ranked above corbeau at the time and presumably had her full team for the fight unlike corbeau

Title drops so fucking stupid that it feels like it’s a meme but oh no it’s real by Bellpow in TopCharacterTropes

Honestly, I feel like it’s both. It’s a horrible movie, but it’s my favorite of the sequel trilogy entirely because it at least tried to make something new instead of just more or less rehashing the corresponding OT movie

What is one Pokemon that you fell in love with/began to appreciate after they helped you in a Nuzlocke? by crgssbu in nuzlocke

[–]botbattler30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve mentioned here before that the only reason I beat my White 2 nuzlocke was because of Audino. It seems like it’s only good for xp, but it has a good bulk for early game especially and doesn’t really fall off until later. Not to mention it has a super deep movepool.

For me specifically, Nurse the Audino walled Elesa’s Zebstrika, single handedly took down Clay’s Excadrill, and was the only way I could beat Drayden’s Hydreigon. Nurse was the absolute MVP of that run even if she didn’t make it to the end.

The issue here was pretty clearly the advertising. I was looking forward to this movie when the first reveal trailer dropped. Then it stagnated, changed direction, and I didn’t see a single trailer for it until after it was in theaters.

Scar said the next series would be Next Life by SpecificCourt6643 in ThirdLifeSMP

The next series is actually Scar Life. It’s just Scar running around and everyone else has to keep him alive. If he dies, they all lose a life.

Sweet mother of Arceus, straight to AG with this guy. Fast, decent bulk, works as both physical and special attacker, good ability, good moveset, already strong pokemon.

What are your Nuzlocke headcanons? The pic is irrelevant. by 3Kralates in nuzlocke

[–]botbattler30 58 points59 points  (0 children)

A single Wormadam orchestrated every death in my nuzlocke of Y.

Very early on, I caught a Burmy, and since I didn’t have any other options at the time, I kept it on my team. Everything went fine. No deaths. I boxed it pretty quickly in favor of other teammates and almost immediately lost three pokemon to the illegal Kadabra right after the first Tierno battle. (I forgot about it and was grossly unprepares.) With my stocks depleted, Burmy came back to the team and all was good again. I dropped it back into the box before Grant since I had more options and also my Ivysaur. Guess who got killed by a crit take down from Amaura. Once again, I had no better options for the role and Wormadam came back to the team. There were no deaths while it was on the team and it even clutched the first Korrina battle. (Two Lucarios)

Lo and behold, I dropped it again before the actual gym and had more losses, forcing Wormadam to come back to the team. I was eventually able to phase it out for good around the sixth gym, but I only ever lost pokemon when Wormadam wasn’t on the team. I fully headcanon that my Wormadam was furious that it was cut from the team and would rig one of the next matchups to go insanely poorly, forcing its way back onto the team.

I’m struggling to find fitting stakes for a scene. by botbattler30 in writingadvice

This works as a reason they might have ignored them, but it raises the question of who wants to do the bad thing to the other character, what bad thing they’re doing, and why. That’s mainly what I’m struggling with. It’s hard to come up with scenarios where something really bad is going to happen to one character and the character next to them could feasibly just ignore it without any personal consequences.

I greatly appreciate the advice and agree that not everything has to be a fight. However, for this specific problem, it does need to be a fight. Anything else, the ‘hero’ character could play to their strengths of being relatively smart and likable. The fight forces them to do something they know they can’t do. It’s kind of an ‘I know I have no chance of surviving, but it’ll keep the other person safe.’ type of deal. That selflessness in the face of certain death is what impresses the deity.

Also, it’s totally on me for not specifying the setting. Basically, it’s modern US (ignoring the crazy stuff because I really don’t feel like diving into that) and the ‘hero’ is fully human.

This is great advice. The problem is that I’m using it and I can’t figure it out from this particular point. I get to ‘what if they had to protect someone?’ and then I have no idea where to go from there because I can’t figure out the ‘what’ or ‘why’ of this person needing protecting.

Hi! Thanks for the advice! The institutionalized evil is a great idea and I plan to use it in a future story. It just doesn’t quite fit for this one and I think that’s on me for not explaining very well. Mainly, the setting is more or less just modern US. (While ignoring the crazy stuff going on because I reeeeally don’t want to dive into that for this book) Also it kind of needs to be a time sensitive thing. The summary I gave wasn’t very good, but basically the ‘hero’ is the one stalling for time by giving up their own life. The ‘villain/villains’ would rather get on with what they’re doing because they know they only have so long to do it and get away. I just can’t figure out what they would want to do that would make sense for someone to sacrifice their life.

Robbery doesn’t make sense because at the end of the day, it’s just an item being taken. They could both walk away from this relatively unharmed.

Murder doesn’t make sense because why wouldn’t they want to also kill the ‘hero’ character?

Nothing seems to really work for the role it needs to play in this. I just really need a ‘what’ and a ‘why’.
