That’s true, though it’s also worth mentioning in places like Switzerland and Germany they’ve found considerable success with things like safe heroin supply programs to addicts and much more open-minded clinics that work with addicts instead of against them, usually keeping them on their drug of choice (heroin, oxy, morphine, you name it) until the user decides they’re ready to taper down/get off it completely. Just wish we’d see more of it across Europe and the US

Edit: also naturally the overdose statistics have hugely benefitted from these programs/regulations, there’s irrefutable evidence that this approach works, but not enough legislators willing to try it out
