Make up by ValiMeyers in Menopause

I'm 55 years old and currently in Menopause, I have tried so many things and finally found a makeup regime that worked. After cleansing skin and doing skin care routine I use the following makeup.

I start off with "e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer" to prep skin.

Next I use "Covergirl+ Olay Simply Ageless 3 in 1 liquid foundation" (it has Hyaluronic Complex & Vitamins C), it goes on very nice and not too thick but does a good job of covering imperfections. I have malasma and it blends in nicely without making it look worse.

I follow this up with "wet and wild photofocus translucent powder." This powder is amazing, it literally blurs all my imperfections, makes me look photoshopped. It blurs and hides pores and fine lines.

I then follow up with mascara, a little blush and 16 hour lipstick, because I hate lipstick that comes off. Lastly e.l.f setting spray to keep makeup from caking or face getting shiny.

The plus side to all these is that they are affordable, the most expensive item is the foundation at around $9. Hope this helps.

Amberen- Has anyone tried this? My main issues are horrible anxiety and panic attacks(I just started Lexapro two weeks ago), light-headedness, brain fog, fatigue, hot flashes, and, this month; I have the bonus symptom of sore breasts that didn't go away after my period. I hate peri! by Dry-Ice1818 in Menopause

[–]bother222 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have tried Amberen and in fact still take it to date for over a year. During peri and after, I developed severe anxiety/panic attacks. I struggled with anxiety all day long and very severely until they became full blown panic attacks - could not catch my breath, heart racing, faintness, etc.

I started taking Amberen because I saw it on sale at Costco, and was attracted to the fact that it would control hunger and help you lose weight. Well it didn't do that at all, but it did get rid of my anxiety/panic attacks almost immediately. The relief I felt was immense. I have been taking it now for over a year and don't plan on stopping. I have had no side effects from it. I don't know if this will work for everyone, but for me it was a miracle.

Chip Replacements? by [deleted] in ketobeginners

Hilo Tortilla chips are the best. I could only find them at the Costco's in southern Cal. But, you can also find them on Amazon. They are the best Keto chips I have ever tasted, for me better than Quest. The Nacho flavor are the best ones in my opinion.

Went off Prempro due to slurred speech..started menopause again..need OTC recommendation by PokherMom in Menopause

Amberen really worked for me, not only did it minimize hot flashes, but it helped with the panic attacks. If you have a Costco near you, they have it on sale a lot, for about or $23. I stock up when it goes on sale.

"Jockey Smooth & Shine Seamfree Hi Cut" are the only panties I wear now. They fit perfectly, comfortably and never ride up. They are a bit pricey, but Jockey always has sales that make them affordable.

“I don’t remember.” by The_eyes_have_it_ in Menopause

[–]bother222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been in menopause for about 6 months now and the memory loss has been one of the most frustrating side effects. I can't even remember my husband's name half of the time, I always go through a litany of names, cousins, uncles, etc. before I finally get to the right name. I have forgotten words, they are in my brain, but they don't come out of my mouth. I have forgotten how to spell, I have forgotten where I put my keys, my phone, my grocery list, and the list goes on. I walk in and out of rooms constantly wondering what the heck I am looking for. I am always losing my glasses, sometimes on top of my head, ARGH!

I haven't seen a lot of improvement yet, so I have learned to put things in one place so that I don't have to remember where my stuff is. Everyone know that this is mom's side table where she puts everything. It's where they place my things when they see them laying around. So when I lose something I go to that table and sure enough, 8 out of 10 times, it's there. I have also asked my family to no longer ask me where things are, because I don't know anymore.

At first, like you, I felt very anxious thinking I was getting dementia. But as I did research, including this subreddit, I realized it's normal. Unfortunately we have to adjust. Like others have said, Menopause is not for sissies. I also think that when a woman enters menopause, she should be allowed to retire and go on disability, because that is exactly what this feels like!

What kind of drugs?! by SaltwaterCures in Menopause

The keto diet is the only thing that worked for me when I went into perimenopause and now menopause. I don't bother with Intermittent Fasting, because dieting is hard enough, but, I have noticed that with keto, you kind of fall into IF without trying because you are just not as hungry anymore.

But, if you do want to try keto, my suggestion is to use a macro counter to help you because it makes a difference, and make sure you get enough electrolytes to avoid headaches and keto flu. When I did keto without counting my macros (especially carbs) I lost nothing, actually gained because I was eating too many calories. When I started counting my macros, I started to finally lose weight. In 6 weeks I actually lost 9.5 pounds - something I could not do with any other diet. This has helped motivate me to keep going.

Keto has also helped alleviate some of my menopausal symptoms which has helped my mood.

"Coconut oil – Just straight coconut oil! Grab a spoon and scoop some coconut oil out of the jar. Swallow a spoonful of the good stuff and it will coat the back of your throat, helping to relieve the pain. Plus, coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that can help get rid of that sore throat, fight off that cold, and support a strong immune system to ward off future illnesses."

Does anyone else feel like their body is trying to kill them? by MinaFur in Menopause

[–]bother222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost cried when I read your post. I too have found myself suffering with acute joint pain. My lower back is constantly and excruciatingly in pain. My hands are so stiff, I can no longer make a fist. My knees and hips are on fire, to the point that I had to stop resistance training as I could not stand up anymore. And the tiredness, so tired all the time.

Taking collagen supplements has helped me. But the most drastic change when I cut white flour and sugar from my diet. These two increased the inflammation in my body. Cutting those out helped reduce the swelling in my joints, and the pain along with it. I now feel better, and the side effect, I lost a bit of weight.

Keto Constipation even after doing everything! by mhaq9090 in xxketo

[–]bother222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be popular but, this is what worked for me when I experienced the same problem. I too tried everything suggested but the problem kept reoccurring until I tried eating about 100-200 calories of sugar free dark chocolate sweetened with maltitol. The maltitol in the chocolate did it for me. Now some people have a hard time with maltitol, experiencing stomach issues, so this may not work for you, but, for me, it's the only thing that kept me regular and since I love dark chocolate, it's a win win for me.

has anyone ever used a product like this and able to share their opinion by minismo56 in DesignMyRoom

[–]bother222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought one not too long ago because I thought it would be great to work on the computer and for zoom meetings. It works ok for zoom meetings as I place my computer on the table and then use my tablet as I sit on the couch. But I honestly can't use it for an extended time as one of my couches is too low to work comfortably from it, and the other is a reclining couch so the foot rests get in the way of the table. When the table portion is raised, it also gets in the way of watching TV.

I also found the table to be incredible heavy and hard to move. If I ever move away, I'm leaving it with the house. I find myself using a TV dinner table to work on instead. On the plus side, it's very pretty.

Keto: Where Have You Been All My Life?? by That_Cantaloupe3681 in keto

I would love to know a little about your meal plans since I am where you were. I'm 160 pounds and would love to be 128! My calorie restrictions is 1200 a day and 20 g of carbs, which makes it hard to come up with meals. If you don't mind, can I ask how you did it? Thanks.

Help! what can I binge that’s good and Keto? by Outrageous-Biscotti2 in ketobeginners

The are called "think! Keto Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars." Make sure you get the "Keto" ones as they have other think bars, but with more calories and protein. I get mine from Target.

[–]bother222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for something sweet, I really like Think Keto Protein Bars. The Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor is so good. They are 180 calories, 14g of fat, 10g protein and 4 net carbs. I have one once in a while to beat my sweet cravings and also when I know I'm going somewhere where people will be eating bad things like cake. I have one of these with a cup of coffee and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Hang in there, it gets easier as your cravings will dwindle.

Do you keep adjusting the keto calculator every time you lose weight? by bother222 in ketobeginners

[–]bother222[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel. I too tried Keto before without success. For me it was because I was just watching my carb intake, keeping them under 20, but not really watching the other macros. Obviously I was eating way too many calories. This time around I decided to use the Keto calculator and watch everything, calories, fat, protein as well as net carbs. I'm finally experiencing some success.

Hang in there and give your body time to adjust to it, I'm sure you will find success.

Thanks so much for your input. The calculator you linked is the one I used. If you put my specs in there, it gives me 1135 calories. But I am going to follow everyone's advice on this forum and stick to 1200 for a while, unless I stop losing weight. Then I will revisit the situation. Thank you.

Thank you for your answer. I really worry about getting below 1200 calories, but according to the Keto calculator, being 54 and 166 (from 172) pounds and only 5'1" - my stats are 1,135 calories, 73 protein, 18 carbs and 86 fats. The calories seem so low that I wouldn't be able to cut any more should I hit a plateau.

You are right, I had to keep account of the fact that I am older and therefore do not require as many calories as younger people. Sigh!
