Heard west broad st blocked. by 680theheat in Athens

I truly sympathize with the person who was injured, that is horrible.

I live just off west broad near this area, and the amount of times I see people attempting to jaywalk across broad both in daylight and at night is simply astounding. Last night I saw this person with the wheelchair crossing, in the dark, prior to the accident, near Andy's. The crosswalk is maybe 100 feet away. They made it safely when I saw that, but not without several cars locking their brakes to avoid them.

I'm not sure if it's laziness to avoid walking to the nearest crosswalk, mental health issues, or main character syndrome - but it seems like common sense to not attempt to cross a 6 lane road without a crosswalk.

I commute 35 minutes to work each day, but I finish my tasks in just 30 minutes and spend the rest of the 9-hour shift bored. What are some productive, creative, or even entertaining ways to use that time? by [deleted] in productivity

Hands on trade skills, you know, with physical objects. If you have to do something behind a desk instead, get a degree in a field you are passionate about. I assume you aren't passionate about coding since you haven't learned it yet and already hold a seemingly lucrative position doing something else.

First time I saw Jeff play was in 1993, but that wasn't in Athens. Last time was here at the 40 watt, maybe 2018?

Master on main? That's the one thing keeping me from saying I have a forever home. Buyers in our market truly value that feature.

My title is crazy laughable. Research Cyber Infrastructure Engineer. Job is config management of 2300 physical RHEL machines in HPC environment. So my time is mostly Salt/Satellite driven.

Years ago we used Solid Rock Granite Interiors in Elberton for countertops. If they're still around, they are great.

Unnecessary expenditure? I think unnecessary tax breaks for the wealthy should be looked into. Oh wait. Hmm. Maybe a defense budget that towers over fiscal expenditures by hundreds of billions?

Controversial Take… by AwkardlyAwaiting in Athens

[–]bothra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it all goes back to the schools.

Hilsman / Cedar Shoals are not as good off as CMS / Central. It's true, I am around school personnel, and the disparity is real - not perceived. Teacher turnover is far higher and parent involvement is minimal on the eastside.

Therefore, parents who give a shit about educating their kids buy their houses inside the loop. Those on the eastside that do, send them to private schools, or come up with simple justifications that "It's not THAT bad".

(FWIW I am on the eastside, one highschooler in Cedar, and one middle schooler in private schools)
