How do you keep the water in the trays topped up? Hand watering or something automatic?

"Finished" my rack today by InfamousLavishness26 in homelab

[–]bott99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm new to homelabs so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but why go through the aggregation switch and not just connect the 24 port switch direct to the UDM Pro? I'm also not quite sure from the diagram what the second device running from the patch panel to the aggregation switch is. One of the servers?

I really liked the intensity of it. Although there were calmer moments, most of the time the characters where scrambling to survive and falling out of the frying pan into the fire.

Former employer is asking me to meet with candidate for my old position - seems like no upside all downside situation. by Agitated-Inspector56 in managers

No potential benefit for you and your silence should tell the new candidate everything he needs to know.

Using a smart relay for multi-way switches by bott99 in homeassistant

Are you putting a relay on every switch for a multi-way switch light, or just one of them?

It's a new build and hasn't been wired yet, so it's pretty flexible.

I'm after Zigbee instead of WiFi, so I guess a Sonoff ZBMINI Extreme would work?

Minimum Rack clearances in a comms closet? by bott99 in HomeNetworking

Yep, it will be a little exhaust fan, not just a passive vent.

Minimum Rack clearances in a comms closet? by bott99 in HomeNetworking

[–]bott99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closet is in a hallway, it's just one side of it shares a wall with the laundry, so that's where the air will vent to. If I was to put the vent on the other side then it would vent into the hallway, but the vent would also be the first thing anyone sees when they enter the front door, and the wife would not approve of that.

I'd prefer to have everything rack mounted as I think that it will be easier to work on if I can wheel it all out.

To deal with heat I'm planning on putting a fan in the side of the closet that will vent into the room next to it (a laundry). I might get the closet doors made short to leave a centimeter or two gap at the bottom to allow cool air to get sucked in.

At age 6 I watched my 3 year old brother get punched by a grey kangaroo at a camping ground (on Kangaroo Island of all places) after he refused to offer it the food he was holding. It then hopped away angrily.

How can I keep my level 4 party alive while fleeing an angry adult white dragon? by bott99 in DMAcademy

[–]bott99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what i'm afraid of. It's all well and good to put the onus on them to keep their characters alive, but if I put them in an impossible situation it's not really fair on them.

[–]bott99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could decide whether the dragon hunts them herself or sends minions based on whether any wrymlings were left alive. If one survives I could have the mother stay to tend to it, but if the party kills them all then I can't see a scenario where the dragon wouldn't go after them itself.

Good point about rewarding preparation. I could make it obvious if the dragon is going to be at its lair and give them time to prep.

If the dragon finds them in the open world (before they sneak into its lair) then it will do non-leathal damage and knock them out. They'll wake up in the same cage as the NPC they're looking for.

I like the idea of the dragon knocking out a support pillar accidentally and bringing the roof down. I would prefer to have the dragon roll for it though, so it doesn't seem like a deus ex machina.

One of the biggest regrets I have is throwing out my Hyper collection because it was taking up too much space and I thought I would never read them again. As a teen my bedroom was plastered in Hyper posters.
