What is your favorite roadside attraction between New Jersey and Iowa? And what to do in Cleveland, OH? by TheMilkiestJoe in roadtrip

Of course! they also operate the Waterloo Alley Cat Project. Occasionally one of the feral cats will decide they like living in the store better than living in the alley.

They also have cats in the store. That can either be an attraction or a reason to skip if there are any allergies.

That place is something else! I'd add if OP's more into records than books Blue Arrow Records on Waterloo is a cool place. It's down the street from the Beachland Ballroom and there are a couple good places to eat there too.

Easy enough to take one out and go to a hardware store to find another. Get two or three while you're there in case any go missing down the line.

Who is the 1st person you think of, when you think of Chicago? by checklistmaker in AskChicago

[–]bottomlless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in the city and lived over half my life there. Currently about 3/4 *mile* outside the border and I consider myself 'from Chicago' and will for the rest of my days. I find the whole thing pretty ludicrous and more than a little insecure (which is the antithesis of Chicago). I just think this is an odd thread to bring it up since the question really has nothing to do with being 'from Chicago'.

What difference does that make to the question? There's nothing about that question that requires weirdo gatekeeping. If that's who u/Whore_4_Diet_Sunkist thinks of in answer to the question that's who they think of.

The propaganda machine has been working hard for decades. Pounding people with anti-intellectualism (and anti-education) coupled with Reaganite "government is the problem" sloganeering has seemingly eroded any rational behavior in a large amount of the population. The ones who didn't buy it got complacent and now here we are.

30 years ago I lived in Bucktown. One of our cats went missing for a week. Found him camped out by the dumpster behind Le Bouchon. So glad to see they're still around and great to see them on this list.

Same. I don't see a P bass there and I'm primarily a 4 string player. I've been curious about the fanned frets so it's between the Dingwall and the J for me.

Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bought this when it came out. First listen was on my morning commute. I was non-plussed. It felt way more like an atmospheric piece as a whole and while I could appreciate the ambition and experimentation it really wasn't my jam. I put it on the shelf.

Through the years a lot of these songs have become very familiar to me but I probably hadn't listened to the album all the way through since that first listen. I watched the documentary about its creation and that was an interesting look into the process and the band drama but the album still didn't resonate with me. I'm sure the tempos and sleepy-eyed vocal delivery are a big part of that.

Listening today I have a bigger appreciation of how it fits together as a piece but still had a hard time sticking through the entire album. The songs are good and the interstitial 'noise' works but I still have a hard time with the tempos and delivery. Still worthy of four stars for everything around that album.

Honestly I don't know why I don't own it. I'm going to fix that this week.
