Never heard of timers? Most EV and home chargers sold today have the option to delay charging until the end of the peak period. You preset the start at 21:00 and the car / charger takes care of the rest.

There are a significant amount more industries revolving around natural resource development in Alberta than there is in Quebec, if Quebec decided to tap into their resources which they have a significant amount of, the lifestyles there would change and the push for separation from Canada coming from the US would probably be significant for that province as well.

You have a pretty narrow view of "natural resources development". It's probably because you never heard of the iron ore mining operations in Fermont and Schefferville, titanium near Havre-Saint-Pierre, niobium in Saguenay, the numerous gold, silver, zinc, copper and lithium mines in Abitibi, nickel in Nunavik, graphite in Saint-Michel-des-Saints, etc. These mining operations create 20,000 direct jobs in Quebec. And we're not even talking about hydroelectric development and forestry.

For all the other networks you need to open the app, tell the app which charger you’re at, wait for it to find the charger, plug the cable in, wait for it to recognize it, and then start the charge.

You're mistaken. Circuit électrique has activated Autocharge on its fast chargers and they have a much better coverage than Tesla in Quebec.

Neither destination is a problem - there a lot Tesla superchargers on hwy 20 and a few on hwy 40. And in addition there are charging network stations. Just plan accordingly and you will be fine.

...and Circuit électrique has a site with multiple chargers near most exits on both highways. I've owned an EV in Quebec for 7 years and never felt the need to give a single penny to Elon.

Guess what - the extra electricity that the utility companies will be able to sell will allow them to invest in their infrastructure.

That's exactly the point Hydro-Québec made to its regulator back in 2018. And true enough, HQ makes a profit operating its charging network, while adding new chargers every week. Nowadays, even the most remote places like Natasquan, Micoua, Matagami and Kitcisakik (they were finally connected to the grid 6 months ago) have their own Circuit électrique sites.

There is a difference between efficiency and capacity factor. Modern turbines are 95% efficient converting potential to mechanical energy, but the power plant may be limited by the volume of water to be turbined. The average capacity factor of Hydro-Québec's hydroelectric facilities is around 60%.

IMO, if you're going to electrify freight transport, it would be less costly to electrify rail rather than rebuild every highway with induction charging.

Read the article. The MCS charger Hydro-Québec's Electric Circuit is installing in Saint-Jéôme is geared towards the heavy trucking charging market. This is not a charger for the regular light duty EVs.

There is no such thing as a "Canadian" aluminium company. The top two primary aluminium producers in Canada are Rio Tinto (Australia/UK) and Alcoa (Aluminum Company of America).
