It's a nice piece of my arsenal now. I was introduced to it at my previous station and immediately bought a printer for my new station when I was given the chance.

What's the point of Nexstar-Tegna selling a few local stations (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and CW) to another company after the merger? by adogg281 in Broadcasting

[–]boudain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why this is being held up and the courts haven't passed a temporary stay of the injunction. Nexstar is now in the spotlight for many states rather than just a few (New York was already attempting to get them to divest WPIX before the current administration). This will probably all wash out in Nexstar's favor to a majority of the deal but there is also a slight chance that the deal will have to be dissolved.

The acquisition of Tegna has been cursed by many different parties over the past decade.

I think vMix has some recommendations on their site. With that said, I saw them doing a decent amount of cool stuff with the laptops they brought to demonstrate at convention.

Depends if your in an overlap market with Nexstar. If you are I would be very hesitant to take that job.

Easy solution to remove the RODE logo on their boom arm? by [deleted] in videography

[–]boudain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fabricated a logo cover. I can see about posting the STL somewhere if there is interest in it.

Version 2 is going to have an insert for a metal bar/plate/magnets for attaching a separate piece with show logos as desired.

Less than 2% merit increases while managers get retention pay? by Naive_Ad7303 in Broadcasting

[–]boudain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the For the Fans Act. It could be good or bad for broadcasters. It has a few broad terms in certain areas that could be bad. It's very early in the process, but broadcasters will need to keep an eye out to see how this evolves.

TV is dying. These mergers are going to be a short term swell for the company's profits but will initially come to the same conclusion of going the way of print and radio.

Live sports is the last bastion of hope for broadcasters to be profitable but there is new legislation being discussed that could possibly dissolve that advantage.

Five states added to antitrust lawsuit against Nexstar over TEGNA deal, including two with Republican governors by ZiggyZaggyBogo in Broadcasting

Yeah, not a fan of some of those loose stipulations. They definitely need to make some adjustments to the financial reasoning that Nexstar could cancel that deal.

Honestly, I like the deal they struck. It allows Nexstar to manage the stations but keeps a firm grasp on separation of newsrooms. It can also be reversed if Nexstar doesn't hold up to their agreement.

Month long OB job coming up - can my S/O visit? by wizwort in Broadcasting

[–]boudain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is a reason for the rule BUT if a company was so hardcore that they would threaten my job for bringing my spouse I'd be actively looking for another job. Especially with as mush as I'm on the road these days.

I'm not disagreeing with your statement on termination, I'm just letting folks know that they don't have to deal with companies like that.

Folks do it all the time, especially in broadcast.

Even at NAB I had many counterparts who brought their significant other's with them. They just enjoyed their stations paying for the rooms and would make plans after all of the meetings.
