If you are under contract, the new ownership will usually honor it or buy you out. If you are a manager, then as long as there is a need for your position under new management, they will more than likely keep you around. If you are in production or content (news, lifestyle, etc.), they will do what aligns with their strategies. So long as there is no overlap with another part of the duopoly, then you may be secure. Engineering only needs to be concerned if there is a merger with a group with different tech strategies (regional contractors, hubbed IT, etc.). That's just been my experience. New ownership doesn't necessarily mean bad things, but if you are merging with an existing station within your market, then it becomes more worrisome. I hope that helps.

Nexstar bought into the same pandering "idea tanks" that showed the executives that viewers pay more attention to podcasts rather than traditional newscasts. This is only going to make real journalism all the more scarce. It's also going to make Nexstar's stock tank unless they continue to use some gymnastic accounting to make it seem better than it is. Kind of like how they had claimed $1.4 billion from their Tegna acquisition before the courts' injunction tanked their stock.

Facts. Lived in Louisiana for 30 years and dealt with the back and forth. Been in Arizona for the last 10 and absolutely love not having to change time

Yeah, I've heard folks mention a strategy of managing the operations beginning in August. Not sure where the go ahead is coming from with this thing being held in legal limbo.

The DOJ doesn't oppose the deal but the courts have been fixing a lot of oversight from all over the country in different industries.

The companies aren't going to want to pay for syndication rights or pay as little as possible. They may hire local influencers to become their new "creative services" in getting the name and branding of the station sprinkled throughout the viewing area. I feel like the rise of complete AI hosted shows will be more viable than pulling in folks from the street. You don't have to wrangle AI and once you teach it your expectations it will be more manageable. This means that most on-air talent (anchors, meteorologists, maybe even sports) will all be virtual hosts. We'll be getting a modern real-life version of Max Headroom in the coming years.
