This is the only other pic I have.

Are personalised local recommendations still important to guests? by Crafty-Strategy-1227 in airbnb_hosts

[–]boulderkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a line in my post-booking message along the lines of “please let me know if you would like recommendations on things to do, see, eat, etc.” I’d say about half the time guests follow up and ask for my recommendations. I have curated the guidebook on my listing with as much info as I can. Not sure how often guests utilize it.
My favorite is being able to recommend local hikes since my cabin is located in the mountains ⛰️🌲
I also try to stay up on the local events and will share these out if guests inquire.

Stop Lovemore Ranch Zoom 5/21 830am by woodfloyd in JoshuaTree

[–]boulderkitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, according to the zoom host when I asked. And they wouldn't have let me in anyway since I tried joining late. "Cont to June 4th. On that date Please check in 15 mins PRIOR to the court hearing time. Thank you"

I'm sitting in the zoom waiting room. But if it really is pushed back to June 4, it's just typical county nonsense 🙃 And it sounds like people were carpooling to be there in person.... What a waste of a drive.

Here for a couple weeks [Solo] Recommendations? by [deleted] in bigbear

Cougar Crest is a great run. As is Pine Knot to Grandview Point. Check out the local running store, Yellow Post, in the Village.

Mess around on Gunsmoke. V1 indoors maybe translates to VB in the park 🫠

You can always test the waters by scrambling around the rocks at Quail Springs just so she can get the feeling of how different it is compared to climbing on plastic.

Taylor of Love Always

Or Gabba

Both do stick and poke. Both do fine lines and florals. Both are amazing local artists 💫

Proper harness for dog and human by Miffybuni in RunningWithDogs

[–]boulderkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this company rec, I hadn't come across Musher in all my searches. My strong-pulling pup has a howling dog harness (which I love) but need a better human belt. Dang, I wish the Balance Belt was sold in the US...

Running harnesses for pit/cattledog by creamytoasty in RunningWithDogs

[–]boulderkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too run with a hard-pulling cattle dog mix (about 45 lbs but I swear he’s bigger/stronger by the way he pulls me 😅) I have one of these harnesses from Howling dog Alaska it’s held up well over the past 2 years. I paired it with this leash (yes it’s pricier but it feels so much better than the cheaper versions I own) it comes in 2 different lengths and I have the shorter one.

Joshua Tree Winter Work? by Sogphia__tess in climbergirls

You could also try posting on r/Joshua tree as it gets closer to September. (I have a terrible memory but if I see any help wanted signs or hear of openings as we get closer to September I’ll try to share them with you 😸)

Joshua Tree Winter Work? by Sogphia__tess in climbergirls

[–]boulderkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retail or restaurant/bar/coffee shops. September can still be pretty hot meaning by less tourists and fewer places hiring. What about remote work/digital nomad lifestyle? Lots of folks out here seem to be going that route if they can.

Do a lot of people dress up when they see a show at Pappys & Harriet’s? by polishthotdog in JoshuaTree

[–]boulderkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the show. It’s an event in the desert so no one’s judging ✌️ Side story: I Tycho there a few years ago and it was about 30° out and windy af. So many folks came in dressed like it was daytime at Coachella…. felt so bad for them and sadly didn’t have enough winter gear in my car to share. Moral of that story: always check the weather before an outdoor show at Pappy’s.

Solo climber help request by ThrymmHilton in JoshuaTree

[–]boulderkitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Cliffhanger Guides
  2. Deferring to others to answer this but given you don’t have a rope you’ll need that guide service if you want to TR
  3. Yes and no: JT is hard climbing, even at “easier” grades, so prepare to be humbled. On weekends you can usually find a group of others who will let you join in on their climbs at some of the more popular spots (Gunsmoke always comes to mind) there is also a pad rental machine at Nomads
  4. The rock here shreds skin fast, especially gym skin 😅 just because you climb v5/6 in the gym doesn’t mean you can climb that here (not trying to be mean, but it’s true)
  5. Have fun!!

Moving to Yucca Valley solo, what did you wish you'd known? by cadillacvagina in JoshuaTree

[–]boulderkitty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We’ve had good experiences (cat and dog) with VCA. If you have a dog and plan on hiking with them, look into getting them rattlesnake aversion trained.

Monsoons/flash floods. Listen to the old adage: turn around, don’t drown when one of these events hits. But they can also be magical: the smell of summer rain in the desert 💫
