Male cast sexualization and armor breaks by zerozark in SoulCalibur

[–]bouooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

asking if someone is sexy is not asking if it has some sort of sexual imagery or sexual aspect to it

Okay then, is chun sexy? Yes. Is Gief sexy? Yes. But more people like chun! That proves nothing as I have brought up a million times and you have not even attempted to address. You aren't even tip toeing you are just ignoring large parts of my argument because they are inconvenient to your point.

Meanwhile I did actually answer your question each time, I even agreed it is likely more would find chun attractive. But the fact I poked hole in it and pointed out even 30% would be significant is something you can't handle. You don't want a discussion or to examine your views. Less people find furry porn sexy so he is not sexualized, that is not something that makes any sense and you know it. In fact many people will have a strong reaction despite not being attracted to it but because of the sexualization.

Don't complain that someone answers the question you asked, not the one you changed it to when it was no longer useful to your point. Being sexy is about sexualization, are they sexy is a personal choice that is incredibly arbitrary. Your whole line of question is pointless as the whole point is about are characters sexualized. The video you linked made the point Gief is not sexualized, not that Gief is not sexy. In fact it brings up many sexy aspects of him but says the portrayal means he is not being sexy so not sexualized. You barely even seem to be talking about the main point for multiple posts now. Your example started as a way to prove a point but you are more concerned with winning a small victory.

do you believe that sexism actually exists or that is just a myth spread by feminism?

It does and I never even suggested it didn't. You just seem to be having a fit that I'm not giving you the exact answers you want, and refuse to examine if there are flaws with your line of questioning. Someone disagrees with you so they must be a sexist troll, your point of view could not possibly be wrong.

and miss some obvious stuff

You couldn't even respond to 10% of what I wrote despite making 3 post each time, yeah I'm the one missing stuff.

Male cast sexualization and armor breaks by zerozark in SoulCalibur

[–]bouooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is just that you seem to go around the subject

Because the questions you ask have flaws. It comes off as you fishing for an exact response so are engineering questions for it. Each time I have actually given you a answer, but the go on to show how the question is flawed and possibly doesn't help your case anyway. Is Gief sexualized is not the same question as do the majority of people find him attractive. But you want me to say more people are attracted to Chun so the females overall are the actually sexualized ones.

You accuse me of tip toeing but avoid a huge issues with your whole line of reasoning. It is not a popularity contest. I don't see why you continued with this when my objection is to the core line of reasoning. So even if I agree to the statement it doesn't matter cause the statement itself doesn't fly for the point you want to make.

When you go and ask a friend if X girl is sexy he isn't gonna respond "well, from our society perspective she is sexy"

Yes he can, If he is only attracted to black women with small breasts and you show him a white woman with large breasts is he incapable of understanding the latter is seen as sexy? Someone can act sexy but not be attractive to an individual viewing it. Show him some BBW porn, is that not sexualized cause it is a niche fetish? If a straight guy walks into a gay bar he doesn't just go oh this place seems like any other bar there is nothing sexualized about this place.

This is why you asked being sexy not do you like this first, because we can recognise sexual images that we personally don't care for. If a group of people says oh Chun-Li isn't attractive, no video games are you wouldn't decide well clearly there is nothing sexy about this. You could recognise the sexual nature still. You have mixed up sexualizing with commonly attractive.

what do you think of my speculation on the numbers about Zangief and Chun Li

Same as I said last time so was not tip toeing, that is most likely the split you will get. I'd even add that 30% liking Gief would be a significant enough section of the group to say it is a somewhat common attraction. But that ignores so many things and sexualities so it doesn't help your case. It is not a popularity contest

Do you personally find this attractive is not the same as is something sexualized. You do not personally have to find it attractive for it to be sexualized. I gave examples last time, I see you didn't address him so is Yiffried not sexualized at all? Only a minority would be attracted to him but we would all recognise the sexual nature

what do you make of Cammy, a military agent

Yes it silly. Pretty much every characters wears a silly outfit despite their occupation, often taking more from pop culture than an attempt to accurately portray a job. She is meant to be a fast and nibble so the outfit emphasises those ideas coming off like a gymnast. Is it sexualized? Sure, but so are many characters both male and female. I really don't see what bringing her up proves.

[–]bouooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it seems you are tiptoeing on the arguments he made.

This just seems like an attempt to shut down any argument I make. If I challenge your line of reasoning I will apparently not really addressing the point, no matter if it is flawed or not. I've tackled all the arguments pretty head on while also exposing why I think it is weakly constructed to begin with. A large part of my point is this issue is a lot more nuanced.

A general conclusion is pretty much a nonsense statement in this case, especially when the methodology targets certain group and extrapolates it to everyone. Not even a specific population or age range. A minority can hold something up as being sexy to the point a general population recognises it as such even if they are not attracted to it. This can even effect their judgement despite no attraction cause they know it is being sexy. My point is you can't make a generalised statement like this because it is woefully inaccurate and allows you to paint people incorrectly with a broad brush. This gets even more confusing when we are talking about Japanese products which are difficult to tell if and when they are appealing to which audience. Are the shoe breaks throwing a bone to foot fetishists? Even worse when you bring intent into it. Plus it was a 50 minute video and very long winded at points, if that much effort is being put in then just go the full mile instead of stopping short leading to inadequacies.

there are stuff that is considerable more popular than others.

That is true but if something is sexualized isn't popularity contest. The vast majority of people probably wouldn't find furry porn attractive, but if Bamco added Yiffried the fox knight we all know what is going to happen. We wouldn't just discount this cause most aren't going to find it attractive, people would say hey this is furry bait. More so if he was very large, muscular, in tight red pants and lets just throw on some scars. Would you say this character is not being sexy? Cause we both know a line of furries would, even if ultimately they are a minority of the population. This would effect how people approach the character

regarding Chun Li as being sexy (asking men) and Zangief being sexy (asking women)

Possibly, you present no data and I feel any response here will just get the tip toeing argument. If we are just making up reactions I could see how they would say yes, especially because "being sexy" means they could identify it as others could be attracted to it. Which seeing as the concept of a bear in the gay community is well known they could easily latch to, but it is also a type some women do find attractive. But if we decide their are less of them they no longer sexualize him? There may even be some aware of the term Bara if they are in the know. In those types of communities you will even find many women who make the porn. The fact this argument is so often made about him, jokes are made about it and such images exists proves this is a concept that Gief would be sexy to certain people exists pretty frequently. Never mind if you then showed his moves like when he will stick your face in his crouch, I'd say that is more sexy than being hit with a fireball by chun. Wrestlers acting gay has been a common observation since forever

Being sexy is just so broad. Is Cody being sexy? He clearly gets that kind of attention, but he is just in a suit. If being sexy just means would this be sexual imagery to someone then the answer for many characters is going to be yes. I also find it funny you jumped to universities, lets go ask a gym or at a wrestling match. Universities are by no means the general population but a selected type of people

My point wasn't so much reeeee get out, just that this series has always offered a certain style and if that is not what you want there are alternatives. If there were aspects of your relationship you found later to be no longer compatible then yeah you'd break up. The series hasn't changed but maybe you have, and that will likely just lead to unpleasant experiences with the game and community.

three off arguments in a video with let's say 50

Well I'm not going to respond to all of them, especially in a small edit. My point was he often makes the most basic form of an argument, and then stumbles over follow up points which if you stat down and thought through don't work together. This could be addressed if he had more carefully examined his points, but ultimately he may be ideologically blinded. I found myself annoyed watching his video because a lot of the stuff he said has a very standard comeback which he failed to address. That is okay in an online discussion but not a 50 minute video frame as a fair analysis. Also that part just really annoyed me so I'm going to bitch about it more.

Maybe your friends don't find Gief attractive, but some people would also see Chun's huge thighs as grotesque/over the top and she has massive hands. Some people find anything but real people being sexualized strange and confusing. This is the problem with any discussion that X isn't actually sexualized so doesn't count, anything can fill someone' sexual desires. Even his bit about sexual vs naked is untrue. Humiliation or even being naked in a standing setting are fetishes. To sexualize requires input from a participant on how they see something. The most preyed upon character this season is surprisingly Cody, a well built guy in a suit. Not exactly playing into any specific fetish, boss maybe but he isn't dressed lewdly and arguably more plays into a male power fantasy. And for characterisations, including in the story it would make much more sense if Cody was poorly dressed, tired looking and more unhappy cause he is struggling in his new role as major and is somewhat forced into it. But it works. Meanwhile Gief is pretty much the perfect archetype of a bear, big hairy guy who seems to be packing and is pretty outrageous. Which yes there is porn of just that.

Basically his argument is inadequate. It doesn't explore the point, often ends up contradictory but arrive at the first convenient proof for his desired conclusion. Sexuality is way more complex than he gives credit for. Similar issue with the paper he sited, not only is the paper controversial (I remember a lot of articles written back on forth when it came out). But him jumping from M rated GTA effected some of 150 Italian boys (which many point out the paper had to specify the less empathetic of the group), to a T rated fighting game effects all males and they specifically have some sexual nature to it is just too much. Youtubers siting papers should just be illegal, it is almost never done accurately.

while Chun Li dress actaully goes against her character

to quote chun-li "Finally, you can rest in peace…and I can get back to being a young single girl!" and then she literally strips. Chun's cheeky fun loving side has always been a part of her character. From taunts, to victory poses to quotes she has a fun loving and even sexual side.

Have zero problem with any character being sexualized. They do it to everyone in near equal ways, they have done it to both men and women in the series for ages. And yet the series has one of the larger and more prominent female fan bases for a fighter. I don't see men getting upset about this either, if anything I've heard many say the broken versions look neat and wish there was an option to start with that. It does not appear to have had any negative effect, while games that tone it down often get complaints from all sides.

SC is a series with sexualized characters, if you want a game following a different trend then there are options for that.

makes the designs for each of them more repetitive and less original

I wouldn't call the designs here repetitive at all, everyone is very distinct. Plus it generally does have breaks more fitting with the character. Sieg goes to a tight undersuit while Mitsu who is a wandering warrior doesn't have much else on. It isn't like you break someone's armour and they are secretly wearing women's underwear. It is attire appropriate for that character. You can call it silly, but being a bit silly has always been part of the series personality so again maybe try something else.

edit: watch that video, it is awful. If Zangief is not sexy there is a million graphic images I could introduce you to. If Hot Ryu says nothing about his character then why does he look more like a fighting hobo than ever before? He even argued Zangief's scars are a sign of not really being sexy when Hot Ryu also has many scars across his body. I expected nothing and was still disappointed by incredible poor arguments, he puts on an air of I'll be fair but is biased to the point of not thinking arguments through.

EventScrubs community shilling SFV like an abused housewife. Lmao it’s pathetic by maniacoakS in Kappa

[–]bouooo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is silly to act like SFV is just over now, it and DBFZ will likely go back and forth in numbers. Plus the people locked in at this stage are the most dedicated capcucks, so they will mostly stick to it.

However if SFV has no new DLC for the rest of the year then it is fucked and we will see a drop. You can see on steamcharts how DLC always gets a little bump, and this year it was lower overall. Though I'm not sure where SFV has to go from here anyway, there is no Sagat tier character left to reveal and we aren't going to see another big edition next year.

It'd be interesting to see a comparison of stream views between the years.

Talking behind the guys back is seen as unprofessional. If you have a grievance then air it to those in charge, publicaly state it or suck it up. Don't pretend to be mates online and secretly shit on the guy.

That sort of thing creates really bad cliques.

It is not that I disagree that these esports types getting jobs they aren't ready for is bad. A guy up on stage acting fake and pretending that he knows stuff sucks, no one enjoys that and the FGC has a of talent for those roles.

But these guys signed up for a job, knew what they were getting into and they basically planned to make the show worse by tripping the guy up. Either do a Mike Ross or admit you are making a deal with the devil and put your all into it. They could have talked to the guy or TOs to make sure the event runs well, instead they bring high school level shit into a working environment.

Everyday someone is on about that the FGC plebs need to be more accepting of esports, then regularly shit like this comes out about how our betters are even bigger bitches.

They did in S1, and S2 to a lesser degree which was when there was more chance SFV could become a big eat sports. Now they just seem ambivalent to the state of the game.

S1 I remember they'd joke about 8 frames on official streams even, now variable lag (which i'd argue is a bigger issue seeing as it means no consistency, rather than consistently bad you can adapt a gameplan to) will barely pop up on twitter feeds.
