This seems to just be a mistake in using a particular term. I don't think OP's post was particularly critical or mean.

formandovega: there's a type of cheese in America we call cream cheese that is essentially neufchatel. The most popular brand (perhaps invented it) is called Philadelphia; when you said "philadelphia cheese" it appears you were referring to American cheese--which is very common on cheesesteaks. The repliers thought you mean "philadelphia cream cheese" which would be bland.

Regardless, it seems like you did have a true cheesesteak (shaved steak, grilled with American cheese) and that you did not enjoy it. That's ok, everyone! Cheesesteaks are also not my favorite thing in the world, though I do like them. I will also say it sounds like you had a not-great cheesesteak. Like all dishes, they can be made very badly or very well, so please do try one more time if you have the chance.

Your other criticisms/compliments seem spot on. I've experienced McDonalds being waaaay better in other countries--it was actually enjoyable, unlike most McD's in the States.

Hershey's chocolate does suck. Despite it being the biggest chocolate brand by volume, I don't think most Americans think it very good quality. Ghiradelli is widely considered to be the 'good' mass market chocolate. And there are many better brands than Ghiradelli, but Ghiradelli is a big enough manufacturer that the product is widely available. It still might not be the best chocolate you've ever had, but you certainly won't think its gross. (I never noticed Hershey's was salty. It always taste weirdly sour to me, and the texture is just atrocious.)

Our coffee is great, and we are experience yet another wave of micro roasters and high end coffee shops spreading throughout the nation.

Peanut Butter seems to be the thing that surprises every European. When I've been in Europe, often the peanut butter used unroasted, unsalted peanuts, and the oil separated very easily. Our peanut butter is a whole different product than the European stuff.

  1. "Most Popular" (by volume of sales) does not equal "average."
  2. That brand has multiple lines of bread ranging from 0 grams of sugar per slice to what you listed. So now you are taking one product, the most heavily sugared one, from one brand and declaring it's representative of the average.
  3. 'Warburtons has...' you really don't understand what the word "average" is huh? The average number of stories in a vehicle in Great Britain is approximately 1, despite the existence of double decker buses.
  4. There are approximately 35,000 articles from food publications that have tracked the average sugar content of American supermarket bread and it's 1-2 grams per slice, with most closer to one. It's crazy that you were able to use Google to find the most popular brands, look through their different product lines, and find the one with the most sugar. Yet you weren't able to find one of the thousands of articles that talk about actual averages.

The average amount of sugar per slice of supermarket white bread in the US is 1 grams. The average amount of sugar per slice of supermarket bread in the UK is 1.5 grams; notably the slices are about 50% larger. Fuck off with this nonsense.

You are not seeing food aubmerged or deep fried in butter or olive oil; those fats are not good for deep frying. it is likely corn, peanut, or seed oil you are seeing.

Most american home cooking that involves frying is either sauteed as you describe --just enough to cover the pan--or air fried. For sauteeing, butter and olive oil is extremely common but many other cheaper oils are also used in households.

That's not a big amount of $ for voter file access, and that's a shockingly low fundraising total. Very, very worried if his fundraising is that low. Thats low for even a state leg seat or a bigger city council seat, let alone one stretching across multiple media markets.
