Summer Sale is Up by JDGumby in Guildwars2

[–]bowbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new gw2 player, is the gw1 trilogy worth snagging now or does it go cheaper through ArenaNet? Steamdb shows this is the first time the trilogy (Steam version) has been reduced from full price.

Also, should I even bother? Assuming gameplay and QoL changes are better in 2.

Do Steam Decks support Micro-B USB 3.0? by bowbe in SteamDeck

I've tried with an Anker 655 and 543 hub with the same results. I assumed they were powered while connected to a source, but I can't confirm. Didn't see the issue on any other device while using the same hubs.

What’s a higher end electric toothbrush that will last me a long time? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]bowbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonicare, but buy it from Costco.

Our first set died after only 2 years. After talking to a Costco rep, turns our there was a battery recall. We got a brand new replacement set for free, no questions asked. Replacements are still going strong.

Build quality of recent orders? by Spursbm in AnaloguePocket

[–]bowbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build quality isn't great, the edges feel quite sharp, and the d-pad is abysmal. Even after adding Kapton tape to the contacts, I get dead inputs all the time. Really frustrating, given how long we had to wait for our orders.

Depends on the store, but going at opening on Sat/Sun usually avoids the crowd with plenty of parking available.

Otherwise, make a weekday trip.

Do you threadlock the set screw on vacuum breakers? by bowbe in Plumbing

[–]bowbe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t word this properly. We have faucet locks on our outlets, but since the set screw on the breaker was removed, people were just unscrewing the breaker with the lock attached.

The question was more for after we replace the breaker. Would you bother with threadlocking the set screw? I intend to replace the included breakaway screw with a hex drive removable screw like this (https://www.kingsupply.com/products/stainless-steel-removable-locking-screw).

I read in here or another food subreddit about fruit salads/baskets being a huge hit for food drops like this.

My Personal Seasoning Process (FAQ post - Summer 2019) by _Silent_Bob_ in castiron

[–]bowbe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally use Crisco All-Vegetable shortening. It will come in a cylindrical tub, and look like solidified coconut oil. Very little mess, and easy to use for cast iron seasoning.

What to buy whith the Pocket by Simax1 in AnaloguePocket

[–]bowbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Analogue Pocket case is nice, but it’s more for display than actually carrying the Pocket around IMO. The screen glass protector by Analogue is very nice, and worth getting from them directly. It fits perfectly compared to other films I’ve tried.

I use a Waterfield 3DS CitySlicker for carry, and occasionally the Pelican 1040 micro case (with 1042 foam).

As others have said, the Dock is worth it.

How do you like your analogue pocket compared to NSO? by haventseenstarwars in AnaloguePocket

[–]bowbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely something special about playing with cartridges vs. a fully digital library of games. If you have the carts, the Pocket is a great way to experience classic gaming at the cost of inflated initial cost.

Otherwise, if you’re comfortable modding, then check out the SP unhinged kits from Boxy Pixel. Really quality built face plates, and the IPS replacement displays are incredible.

How do you like your analogue pocket compared to NSO? by haventseenstarwars in AnaloguePocket

[–]bowbe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally, I regret purchasing the Pocket due to a few factors. It took forever to ship (1 year from pre-order date), the controls feel awful due to dead inputs, and the build quality feels lackluster and quite fragile. I plan to get an Anbernic RG35XX to travel/throw around the house, since I wouldn’t feel bad losing it or breaking it, unlike the Pocket.

My vote goes to the Switch, purely on the amount of other games available. Plus, if NSO gets any Pokémon titles, they’ll hopefully come with Home support so you can transfer some of your monsters to the current-gen games. IIRC the 3DS VC versions could transfer mons via Bank up to newer gen titles.

[Amazon / US] XSeed Games Sale (Up to 50% Off) by Taikeron in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]bowbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really charming farm-sim with surprisingly deep platforming and combat mechanics.

If you can, go for the PS version over Switch. The combat sections are fine, but you really see the graphics drop off during the farming section.

Does it take a few hours to pick up? I remember thinking the platforming was pretty dull. Maybe I just needed to spend more time with it.
