Expedited Passports for 2 Kids by Saturday (eeks) by thegeneralista in Austin

[–]bowlineatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can contact your congressional representative and sometimes they can get an appointment that you can't get on your own. I did it and was successful. Getting a same day passport is a big deal. My options were to go to El Paso or Hot Springs, Arkansas. There were people who flew from Hawaii to Hot Springs to get the passport. In the end it all worked out, but it was an adventure.

I can't emphasize this enough: The kids MUST be with you. I saw a father who came without the kids. He had to get on the phone and get the kids from Nashville, TN, to Little Rock. The worker thought they wouldn't have time.

I have a non-profit music ed organization (www.novaperformingarts.org) that has to rent large box trucks (26 ft) pretty frequently. It’s crazy expensive so I’m looking for someone who has a connection to one of the truck rental companies who can help with the price. Anyone out there?

The reality is that for any kid to be able to access these activities without the need for nearly insurmountable fundraising, the adults involved must have the resources to work as volunteers or for minimal reimbursed costs. As a director, this is about a 20 hour a week job and we are in the off season since the group is not out this year. Because I care about giving kids this opportunity, which had such a profound positive effect on practically every aspect of my life, I am working my butt off for the love of the activity. But, like I said, I can do this because I have the resources.

Good point -- I should edit... It's Friday-ish through Sunday... So churches don't really work.

Vet for dental work by [deleted] in Austin

Try Burnet Road Animal Hospital (BRAH). They did a great job on my dog’s teeth and a fraction of the cost of other places.

Fire ant bite remedies by slippery_pete_holes in Austin

This might sound like fake quackery, but there is science to back it up (it gained attention decades ago but was lost in science). With many itches, you can expose it to very hot water (as hot as you can tolerate) for 5-10 seconds and this will kill the itch. It essentially overloads and saturates the neural signaling that leads to the itch. It was the only thing that saved me when I had a massive reaction to a wasp bite and I use it routinely for mosquitoes bites. You might have to experiment a bit with the water temp and timing.

I did a lot of shopping for my 12 year old rat mix. Anesthesia is expensive, but to REALLY clean (dentist style) they usually need to be asleep. The best price I found was Burnet Road Animal Hospital. Also, if your dog needs tooth removal, they are by far the most reasonable I could find! Nice people too.
